Oh Chad, My heart sank and I got a pit in my stomach in the first few minutes of your video. What a relief that you were capable of finding the problem right away and fixed it. You're so patient talented, I'm sure Remi is proud of you--I know I am! Keep on keeping on and God Bless you. You're amazing!
@@kathyrogers5395 yes I was so upset and was pleased to realize it wasn’t any serious leak or damage. The ducks are always playing in the filter so it’s possible they always stand there pushing that part of the liner down.
Wow im happy this was an easy fix for you 😅... The ducks were puzzled too . Wheres our water?? Have a blessed day.. thank you for an easy fix for the duck pond ☺️👍💜✨
Nice job! Ducks like water no matter what. I have an upside down kids sandbox lid acting as my “Duck pond”. They enjoyed it before continuing to head to wherever they go. For all I know they flew north to Hidden Springs to cool off!
@@us1fedvet haha, a lot of folks think it’s nasty for ducks to play in dirty water but the reality is that ducks need grit in their diet to help with digestion and the sandy muddy water has grit in it. Sandbox lids will satisfy their water fix too 😂
Chad, I have a 10,000 gallon pond (near Detroit). You can tie weights to the air hoses to keep them on the bottom of the pond. Most pond aerators will come with heavy weighted tubing.
I'm so glad it was an easy fix! I'm pleasantly surprised how clean the bottom looked. I really didn't expect that! It's almost like those lines coming from the aerators need a weight on them or something. I just LOVE watching your ducks live their BEST life on your farm!
Good morning Chad, Ms. Olive and Ducks - OMG the duck pond lost its water but Chad you figured it out. Good Job. I have been under the weather lately but watching the farm and Ms. Olive makes me feel better. I luv Ms. Olive. Thanks for sharing with all of us and until next time have a fun and safe weekend.
Glad the mystery of the empty pond was resolved & turned out to be an easy fix. Think you would be enemy number 1 if the ducks missed out on their daily dip 😂🏴
Well, at least it wasn’t the pipe! Thank goodness it was just the liner falling down…. Looks like you got yourself a snake hole there… or maybe a vole…. Such a beautiful froggy! He's like, thank you for fixing my home!
Great video Chad. That leak happened so fast. I was praying so it wasn't something big. Thank goodness it was an easy fix. Thoughts and Prayers.Thank you for sharing. Love and Blessings. Doris, Penrith 🇦🇺🦘
I recently found your channel while searching for information on Old English Sheepdogs, and just watched your video about 10 reasons to get an Old English Sheepdog. Over the years, I've had two OES's and will be getting an OES puppy soon. They have always been my favorite breed and don't mind all the maintenance and care they need. I agree with you 100 percent, they make wonderful family pets.
Pond looks great. Im building mine now. Hope it looks as good as yours. ❤ i tell my boys and girls apart by their sound. Boys are quiet. Girls are loud!
@@hillarywright7965 that’s great, best of luck. I just find it harder to judge their noise when there’s too many in a flock…all I hear is a mismash of quacks and grunts 😉
Hi, most pond plants die back in winter and regrow in spring, but you need to remove dead growth or it fowls the pond, glad you had an easy fix to the pond, just go round the pump area to avoid any further damage. And build a ɓox for the aerator. ❤
I love to aqua scape and I have a ton of different kinds of aquarium plants. Yes they do come back each and every year all you gotta do is go to your local garden center. They should have an area for pond plants. They’re already in a pot. It just grabs them and throw them in your pond. They will eventually die in the fall, but they will come back each and every spring and summer getting bigger and more beautiful each year, you can also get a couple of floating plants water lettuce that will float on the top probably tea munch on it, but it will grow very well.
You could run the air hoses through black piping and get them out of the way. You could also stick your air pump in an extra big ish plastic box with some holes so it could breathe. Then put a large plant pot or wooden box over that. Then depending on the placement you would have something to sit on too.
Was wondering yesterday what the next vlog would be about. Didn’t expect this one. Farm life-never dull! Relatively easy fix but lots of work anyway! Keeping the ducks (and frogs) happy😅🤗
@@jfarmer305 yup, always some happenings. Even when I’m scripting videos sometimes something like this happens that just turns itself into a video with no script 😀
We have about 10 fish tanks in the house with filters that use medium. It's fascinating how that works. People that are constantly cleaning their tanks are actually destroying the life/bacteria within.
@@indecisivegardener yes, I believe it’s better to strive for a balance. I need to work on the algae issue but the fact that the bottom of the pond wasn’t full of gunk & poop just shows it doesn’t need to be fully drained very often if at all. That’s a lot of tanks, do you breed fish or something? Or you just love fish tanks and their calming effects.
@@HiddenSpringFarmBoth. We bleed blue eyed Lemon Plecos & Vampire Plecos. The Cichlids are breeding by accident. It all started by my MIL setting up one little community tank. We were hooked.
Great job finding the leak! To help clear up the algae you can use something like these. My dad also added an ultra violet light and a bubbler to help keep his pond and waterfall clean...Summit Clear-Water Clear Water Barley Straw Pond Treatment Nooice! 😎 STOC
So I just get in from work, turn on one of my favorite RU-vid channels and OMG😮 what happened???? The pond. Happy you could fix it. Even Kermit the 🐸 appreciated it. Lol
@@BCGandyman the air stone is at the bottom already but maybe I still need to shorten the tube. I didn’t want you to make it too short in case I want to move it.
Wow, sorry about the pond leak. Looks like it was a slow leak, maybe that's why it all drained away before you saw it. Glad it was an easy fix anyway and nothing complicated. Those frogs were waiting patiently for you fix it lol.
A great thing is 6 inches of pea gravel in the bottom as it helps with good bacteria and helps to keep the pond clean & clear it also protects with the temperature swings. It would help with the algae problem. Can't stress enough how much that would benefit your pond and takes a lot of the load off your filter. Hope you can do that. The benefits of the gravel bed more than offsets the cost. A worse nightmare would've been had you had fish.
Of course yes, I think I spent $2600 on this pond and that was like $800 for the liner and $800 for the filter, plus the foam, sealant, river stone and pump. If I was to hire pro pond builders it’ll far exceed $5000 I’m sure of it. They spend a lot of $$$ on rocks and really focus on concealing the liner whereas I found rocks on the property but it’s not nearly enough.
At this stage with the tail feather gone it will be voice to tell the drakes You could use temporary bands so you know who you have grabbed to check or keep them locked in the run one morning and every one you check you can let out My guess on the leak was your ducks caused it If one was swimming in the filter and caused water to spill they would dig in the wet dirt for bugs Adding some rocks all around that filter area will prevent them digging and your stumps can help to hold the liner up in place Adding in some snails may also help with algae issues The bubblers are a great idea as it keeps the water moving when the birds are not inside swimming Overall great job as that pond looks great and your birds love it
😂 the ducks are doin it... ha ha ha Crazy easy solution! Wow, how fortunate for you. Nice! Obviously you put that pond together like a pro and it's not likely to have issues for a long time. This was just a fluke.
Definitely a fluke, mind you I really didn’t completely finish all the edging cause I don’t have any more rocks or stumps lol. I’m sure the ducks always playing in there stood on the liner and bent it down further. It’s all good now though, I hope.
Perhaps you should have an upper smaller pond area ehe you have reeds and water plants and gravel to have a biological filtration for the pond to compliment the current filtration unit.
@@wayneuynhan5624 yes I’ve seen some build bog filter ponds you’re right. I’m just worried that I’ll do all that work and spend all that money just to have the water fowl ruin it. Maybe there can be a way where the ducks can’t have access.
@@angelinalanzillotti2773 we had ducks for 4 years now and I just built the pond a few months ago. Not even thinking about the ducks happiness but my time has been freed up not having to fill the water bins all the time, all I do is let them out and they go to the pond.
Thanks to you, I have learned what chickens can do to your grounds versus ducks. If I have an opportunity to obtain feathers it will be ducks. Thanks for doing what you do. Love your saw mill videos too. I have 7acres of woods and had to take down over 40 trees and wish I had me a saw mill. We have 3 massive wood piles now though. Not a bad trade off.
"good boy".....I thought Olive was a girl, lol I think those little bubblers are for fish ponds. You are right, those ducks can be quite aggressive. who knew?
Would adding some smaller algae-eating fish to the pond be beneficial? We're planning to dig a small pond on our property next spring and were thinking about including algae-eating fish.
@@chrysanddan6994 yes it definitely would. Shade would help too. It was just a bit late in the season but I think next spring I’ll get some algae eaters, feeder fish for the ducks and maybe one or two aquatic plants. It’ll be interesting 😉
At this point you might should wait till next spring to get aquatic plants. Some can stay in the pond dormant overwinter if ( this or that condition is met) some I think you can take out & store in a place they wont freeze. Just have to research to find out.
Your farm just looks idyllic, beautiful place. With the bubblers have you thought about attaching weights ie fishing sinkers to the tubes to hold them down so they don't float. That might work. Hello from central west Queensland Australia.
The bioballs create surface area for the bacteria to colonise that will help break down ammonia and nitrites into nitrates which will come from the waste the ducks produce.
They survive just fine, I had a 10’ pond at a previous home and it was 3’ deep…I had a pond heater that kept a hole to allow gases to escape and the koi kind of hibernate, you don’t feed them or nothing until the ice melts next spring.
I wish it would be that easy, because once the lead drake starts waddling the others usually follow. I’ll give it a try and see how it goes but I’m sensing it to be more difficult than that.
Well, at least it wasn’t the pipe! Thank goodness it was just the liner falling down…. Looks like you got yourself a snake hole there… or maybe a vole…. Such a beautiful froggy! He's like, thank you for fixing my home! You can weigh the hoses down with fishing weights…. Cheap and it works….just tie em on and watch the lines sink… then You can drop a couple rocks closer to the liner and keep the hoses away from the ducks and geese…
It’s an artesian well and hasn’t lower its flow rate in over 100 years. We are lucky enough to have 4 hidden spring aqueducts under our property that supply the entire community. I’m more worried about the pump running too long.
Too late by the end of the video the pond was full 😂 but really it shouldn’t be cleaned as it’s not dirty. The green stuff is just nature and is beneficial.
I suggest the 5 gal. Paint filter bags and the expanded clay pellets. The pellets have best holding of stuff then you just hose them down. Theres your mechanical and biological filtration cheap. Pellets best as drain rock for plants. Hydroton. You can grow right out of the pellets too.
U have to learn to CHILL OUT DUDE!!!😊😊 U get way to over stimulated over the littlest things...relax and enjoy the animals...enjoy the nature😊😊♥️♥️♥️ hi to the 😻❤
When am I not relaxed? The pond draining is a little thing to you? What if I had fish in there. When I build something I expect myself to do a good enough job that things last. Nobody would like a boring Chad like in my really early videos trust me 😉
@@HiddenSpringFarm so u had a leak in the pond and figured out were it was coming from. It's not the end of world!! Sure everybody does a great job on a project they r working on. Never want to see it fall apart. But nothing is perfect!! Nothing!! 😁 And if u had fish in there u would scoop them out and put them in a temporary bin till it gets fixed. In just saying that u need to enjoy ur animals because they only live a short time on this earth. And they r all so precious 🐱🐷🦜🪿🦆🦢🐔🐖
hydro dynamics explains why you have no sludge on the bottom. As long as you're circulating THAT much water in that small a volume, the sediment is just circulating as it breaks down. Which is why you have very green water. The algae loves the fertilizer like any other plant. Also, scrounge up some flat stone or flag stone from a quarry or supplier, and replace those round rocks in the water fall chute. It will give you a cleaner fall and will do a better job of deflecting without creating a barrier. And leave those kids alone, if you dont want to see the natural job of propegation, get rid of ALL the drakes. She is receptice or she would'nt be getting mated so frequently. She knows when she is most fertile, just like every other species of livestock on the farm. As she gets older, she will be less receptive and she will actually snap back. And the bubblers are really redundant Chad, you have a natural aerator with the waterfall. Anny movement of that water and exposing it to the atmosphere is aeration. Since the pump takes it all from the bottom, you're already doing a fantastic job oxygenating.
