Mystery deepens over Chicago woman missing in the Bahamas

A woman from Chicago has been missing in the Bahamas for almost two weeks after vanishing from a yoga retreat, and now her family and Chicago police are appealing to the public for help in finding 41-year-old Taylor Casey. NBC News' Maggie Vespa reports.

⁠@@bellasee1 I gather, you are as “intelligent” as that mother, bless her heart.. First: they don’t change a lot for tent on the beach. Second: they don’t force anyone to come and choose to stay in the tent on the beach. Third: they don’t really have a choice in cooperating with police and ( I am sure) have been thoroughly questioned right from the beginning, so we’re all of the guests, staying at that time. So, why continue to harass new guests? Why affect the business, if they not the suspects?

Several yoga students told the mom, sister. Taylor was approached twice at different times. By two different men, walking to and from the other resort, close by. One man supposedly from Chicago, talked with her, when she was by herself. And one man seen, with a walky talky, standing on Taylor tent deck/platform. Who were those guys, stalking tourist also??? Did one of the yoga class students set Taylor up to be taken, kidnapped??? Its hard to trust people now days, ones you know and strangers! Some people have evil intentions! Not good if the yoga resort have no cameras, security. It is so dangerous to be staying, sleeping outside there, in tents, with no safety protection. 😮 Especially with other tourist, wandering around the beach area. I hope after the mom, sister, find out what happened to Taylor. They sue the yoga resort, and put them out of business! All that money they charge people, and its not safe for the tourist. Not ok! And then they are unconcerned about Taylor missing! I pray she is alive and ok. 🙏 Prayers for Taylor mom, sister, family members!

@@GhettoKeKe021 A lot of the time is your own people who make yall disapear, because they know that they can get away with it in an island who doesn't have camera everywhere and is surrounded by water. I remember when a woman disapear (Amanda Waller) while snorkeling with her husband, he was quick to say "My wife told me 'If something happens to me, I want you to live on. I want you to be happy. I want you to love again.'" and they cancel the searching for her and in another island a woman(Robyn Gardner) disapear while snorkeling with a man that she was having an affair with. All these men are from your country, you setup your own people then blame the islands. In the comments they are saying that this women was talking to some men from Chicago, before she was missing

@terrylockhart1685 Taylor's family told a news station this a few days ago. The family said that this information I'm giving you about the man is what the island leaders told them. In addition, the family said that Taylor's female friend on the island also saw a man walk up to Taylor and tell her that he was from Chicago and he was looking to take a yoga class. And the yoga retreat leaders they told Taylor's family that they caught this man stalking Taylor on 2 occasions. The family said all of this on the news interview.

i had a memory last night..once when in puerto rico...i was on the beach access part of my hotel ...no one else was was around after a while...i went into the water waist deep andthen a rip wave came and swept me out further away from shore...i cant swim..i fought likeheaven to feel the sand undermy feet again and made it back ashore...and i keep thinking..omg...no one would've known what happened to if i never made itback to shore...as i was on a business trip and my colleagues didn't know that i went down to beach that eve after our workshops..they wouldn'tve known to search land or sea...still humbles me ..i prayforthe best outcome

I grew up in Nassau and this is a very Bahamian way of handling things. Everything is hush hush and they'd rather protect themselves than draw international attention - especially from the US, where most of the money flows in from via tourism. Trust me, if there's a story here - they're going to cover it up and bury it, especially because it impacts the biggest industry in the country.

@cancelculture, that is exactly right and that is how all of the touristy islands do. Their economy is tied to the travel industry, so they cover up all crimes involving tourists. Sometimes they also have complex ties to corruption in the infrastructures, too.

A lot of these Caribbean island police forces are like small town PDs. I’m not sure how they’re trained, who trained them, or what they’re trained in, but they always give the impression that they have no clue what they’re supposed to do when certain crimes occur. Hopefully, the FBI will look into this. And that retreat company is trash. The visitors’ trip experience takes precedence over a missing person??? And why would the family lie about being stonewalled? Who’s running this wellness sham?

Here’s some facts: the yoga resort is located in a very remote part of paradise island, so remote that there are no roads or tracks to access this place, only by boat can you get there. The yoga retreat is owned and operated by foreigners, not Bahamians. In fact, most of the Bahamian population did not even know this place existed until this missing person case came up. Further, the family has refused several invitations to speak with local media in the Bahamas.

I went to that yoga retreat and your a little wrong, you can walk 5 min to the Atlantis 5 star hotel that cost like $2,000 a night, I would walk there alone to get coffee

The yoga group is not talking and the island police are not interested in assisting. The Bahamas has not responded as they should. The FBI should have custody of the phone and other personal effects since the Bahamas are not investigating.

I hope they find her soon. I don't know what happened to her, but people must remember that islands are surrounded by water, never isolate yourself in the water, because if you drown and no one help you, you might be never be found again. Don't let anyone isolate you on the island either, be always surrounded by a lot of people when you leave your room, in case something happens to you, they can help you or be a witness. I'm not from Bahamas, but tourist drown in my island too, but luckily most of the time they are surrounded by people who can help them and the ones who are not surrounded by a lot of people, just their partner are never be found again. Be careful with who you travel and if you travel alone or not, don't let anyone isolate you. Never be with only one person, be surrounded by a bunch of people.

ACD : 1- “If”current pedifile abductors were no longer able to access usual preferences, now searching for adults (not fully avg. in body form) that would pass bases on appearance, she fits the target. 2- “If”one is true, current pickup/pass off points would need to “use social media” to find reasonable trips to lure intended prey…..! 3- “If” time is urgent, the v41yo. may have dropped the phone in the ocean once she realized (she is drugged and will pass out/ the villains are at a new hand off “vessel to vessel” point/ the direction of travel has changed [especially if they believe satellite image tracking is probable to thwart their attempts at escape]. *(ACD: / arm chair detective)

ACD: 1- Location has difficult to access rescue, requiring less bribery 2-follow those approving or creating narratives to slow technology time stamps in searching attempts. 3- Made sure prey has minimal to no associates with financial or other random factors to manage their behavior is discovered.

I’ve visited Nassau over 20 times while on cruise ships until a few years ago due to the crime, I used to walk down to Arawak key for lunch ect until one visit where the local hooliganism posing as venders tried setting me up ,I’m a male traveling alone and was thankfully aware of what was going on ,then a few of the shuttle boat drivers were noticeably drunk arguing and fighting was enough for me haven’t been back since and the last time I didn’t disembark ship while in Port be care and WELL AWARE if you visit

Though it was obvious (at least to me), that wasn't the case with the real women there, that they liked "her" presence.

I think that our country needs to increase the travel warning to the Bahamas to a four. Safety should be a priority there and that does not seem to be the case in recent years. We all know that this island and many other islands in the region have tourism as their number one means of financial support. I am sincerely praying that her family gets the answers to what happened to her. I pray that God gives him peace and comfort during this time.

I’m sorry, I think she drowned in the ocean. She may have taken her phone to snap a photo and the current had her fall, this has happened to me, I lost my hat and sunglasses. My feet were swept right under me, my phone in a waterproof case on a string around my hand so I kept it, it was scary.

If her passport is gone foul play is possible, however, I intuitivly felt this lovely gal drowned. Its easy to drown in the Ocean by yourself and many people on vacation are overly confident in their ability to swim, and have no actual knowledge of the area. 💜🙏I hope they find her.

She was actually on the grounds of the retreat and so were other participants if not most at the retreat she wasn't alone at all and she wasn't staying on the beach but on the grounds of the retreat. No different than beachfront hotel or villa.
