I had the same exact problem on a 2010 malibu 2.2l. Even had the same codes. I chased it for a year and found the same pink wire in the same location bad! My pink wire had a 90 degree bend before the connector causing the copper to be compromised. I don't have soldering skills so I bypassed the connector with a red heat shrink butt connector, just on the pink wire. That was 6 months ago and the repair is holding up fine. I did not have any more drama after that. Excited to see your next video on this car! Thanks for your content!

Ivan, your customer misunderstood the dealer. He didn’t say to fix the brakes( devices to stop the car). He said to fix the BREAKS, the breaks(interruption of continuity) in the wire.
@bigcheese781

I think too that the customer misunderstood, but conversation went along this line: Dealer were telling his lazy staff to stop *their* break, or *they'll* all be replaced.

Ah yes, the Malibu. I bought a 2002 new. Between 40k and 70k, replaced: front wheel bearing, tie rod ends, ball joint, fuel pump, steering rack. The head gasket also began leaking around 70k. The best day of ownership was around 75k when it was totaled. I bought a Camry and never looked back.

Not surprised that the wires in that harness would fatigue break as GM just left it hanging loose bouncing around not even clamped down. I'm sure that connector vibrates and bounces around all the time. Bad design along with GM's cheap wire quality. All my older GM products never had a spontaneously broken wire ever. By the way just bought a Launch x-431 Diagun V. Neat scanner. Fixed an issue with a relatives Mercedes already. Lots of Low voltage codes.. Just a weak battery. Saved a lot already not bringing it to a dealer..

Typical GM preyduct.... Inferrior harness materials, construction and design including location and access; This is a Safety Issue and a Recall in my book. What a Lethal Joke.... also does anyone know anything about failing knock sensor and oil sensor wiring/connectors in older GM preyducts, due to engine "movement/vibrations/heat"? Thanks!!!

Same issue on 2012. Throwing parts at it isnt working. 😂. Did the vibration from A/C cause the loose wire?
@schigara
@schigara 4 года назад
The owner stated it tended to happen when the a/c was on. Knowing the problem and where it was, the a/c being on somewhat lowered the rpms and put more strain on the engine causing more vibration. It was a passive relationship.

I have seen this on a 09 saturn aura (same car) and it was at the dealer a week prior for this and another tech threw a pcm at it. supposibly you had to knock on the pcm to get the car to start? maybe a separate issue, it came back as a no start, i got it. found i had no injector pulse, no ignition feed. upon close inspection found that wire broken another one next to it wasn't in good shape either. We have a box full of junkyard wiring harnesses and a bunch of trays with terminals for these older vehicles. I usually go for the junkyard harness, grabbed a few leads and spliced them in place.

@Josh Smith And the list goes on and on...I still have a garage kept 89 buick mint and the plastic crap they put today is a joke on the uneducated buyer. There's no way they will last beyond 10 years. ICE engines are in the last years of production and they have made them not to last. Lets put on timing belt on interference engines, the suckers will buy it. I guess they think buyers will give them another chance with electric. But electric will do away with so many longevity problems and they will last. Compare a crap engine and trans today to 2 motors easily replaced. Companies will rebuild batteries and there will be a huge aftermarket for that. If you want plastic headlights, plastic engine parts, good luck, don't plan on buying a used one or keeping for any length.

A big connector like that one only hanging by its cable is highly failure prone. Copper will workharden from micro vibrations (as you mention briefly) and eventually the strands fail one by one over years. It often happens exactly as that, near the biggest free-hanging weight with the isolation perfectly intact.

One day on my 2010 Altima (best car is the free car, even with the CVT) I lost HVAC, park release solenoid, speed sensor for the power steering/cruise and outside temp. I looked at the FSM and everything listed up there is controlled by the BCM and a common ground, M42. I swapped BCMs, it was a bad one with the steering lock problem (Nissan did a recall on them), so I swapped it back. I did check all of my fuses twice a couple of nights before, but I apparently missed one or my multimeter bridged because I swapped every fuse relating to the BCM as a hail marry, started the car, and put my hand with leverage n the shifter not expecting it to work, the parking solenoid released like it should, and the car stalled since it just started. Never have been happier to see it do that. Everything is working now, except for remote start, which I found out was after market :( . I did notice a torn wire in the harness, so I repaired it and still nothing (that wire might be for DRL (American FSM says that wire is blank), which for some God forsaken reason, a pretty well optioned car for 2010 doesn't have standard). The remote start works on the fob for the after market unit, but it can't lock or unlock the doors nor does pressing lock 3 times on the OEM fob work like it did before. It was working for a bit after I swapped all the fuses. Moral of the story is, check your freaking fuses and actually pull out the ones you are really concerned with. I only recently got a basic scanner, and after this whole ordeal with the BCM circuit, it kinda pushed me to get a scanner along with a test light. The scanner helped me fix TPMS and some initial problems with the remote start unit getting into a pissing match with NATS and only cycling key positions instead of starting the car remotely. Love the channel Ivan, and it takes a good mechanic to say that he messed up, and reflect on it. Keep up the good work!

Got a new battery and it was good for a week but then suddenly died. Checked battery and alternator and autozone and was shown both were good. I searched and saw change Camshaft sensor. Did that and it died again (better mileage though). Battery checked to be good. When it died all times, I put a bigger battery and started right up. I know it's not the battery, alternator or camshaft sensor. I will be changing the mass air flow sensor then the fuse relays (will check all relays). The whole time I did not get a check engine light.

The funny part is that guy tried to fix it by putting paper clip around and said it fixed. He told owner that fuse was blown and didn’t said which. That car did had power and started randomly. Jump start that blown fuse, or fresh new battery, or the autzone guy or even backward who know 😟. That’s my only guess. If you want to know what fuse look like. Part number is 38231-TBA-A01. It have amp rating there. The 125, 30 and so on. 125a (battery) was blown. No continuity. That power whole bunch of stuff. Told my cousin that not let anybody touch electrical system again but me. It was the weird short case study.

I have the same problem with my 2011 malibu right now I had it fixed twice before now the mechanic is saying it'll be $1500 for a new timing belt and something else and it might fix it

For driveability issues, I like to keep the vehicle for 24 hours before I release it. Just in case it acts up again. Can save a tow bill, and other headaches. If the customer refuses, just let them know something can happen. But good work away always

I couldn't really do that since this was a mobile call haha

@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics get a company vehicle, write it off under tax purposes, use it for transport to customers, and loan while you keep their vehicle. Could charge them rental fees 🤑

IVAN!!!!!! A cliffhanger? Really??!! Great troubleshooting!! Hmmmm... now it’s a crank, no start? Brakes. Do the breaks. Wait.... no. Not the breaks. Probably the crank sensor. Bad gas? Cam sensor? MAP sensor? I’m going with a bad coolant sensor. 😂😂😂 IT’S A CLIFFHANGER. I HAVE NO IDEA!!! Where is part 2 Ivan? Great video. Thanks a lot!!

replace the relay or is that direct ignition switch fed, I forget lol although it's probably a bad wire at fuse box, ignition switch or other connector between (I really don't recall the layout of those) **BAH I missed that the fuse power was OK, looked like the graphs showed matching failures, maybe try not to use yellow and green together LOL

Amazing and almost simple fix. Great troubleshooting sir! Had exact issue on a 2011 malibu and 2 separate mechanics said the car had jumped timing? Thnx!

They put to small of a wire on cars, it's sickening for what you pay for a new car. Also that PUNY 2.4 is sad in a chevy malibu, the 3.6 if you want some power.
