Well, I had absolutely no clue. I think it's a good idea. More rigid than just putting a bar in the lathe chuck. And that's a cute grinder you have there.

Thanks Michel, putting a bar in the chuck was my original plan. But that's a lot of extra overhang and weight. If I feed the little grinder enough metal it might grow 😁😁

hi dean Great job, mystery over!! Many people don' t realise the amount of preparatory work sometimes to do a relatively small piece of machining, i have friends who many times say could you JUST whip me this little job out🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 Very thorough work Dean atb Kev

After indexing in on the chuck OD you might want to also index on the taper bore to ensure it was machined true to the chuck OD. I realize the taper bore is off a bit based on the contact pattern but it might not be truly concentric with the OD.

Well my guess was a fixture plate for your rotary table. I thought you might be mounting your shaper vise onto it with the 4 bolt pattern.

Hi Dean, for a while I was transported from North Yorkshire (UK) to California like I was in there with you thinking yeh but where's my coffee? Setup is the tricky thing on all jobs - which takes the brain work. I remember you getting the toolpost grinder. Your vice looks like my Vevor 6in vice but with a few differences so maybe yours is an original. I will lookout for a toolpost grinder or make/adapt something. I need to grind my chuck jaws sometime. Nice vid. Cheers

Hi Paul, I'll try the have the coffee ready on time for the next one 😁 Yeah my mill vice is an old Kurt D60... I suspect the patent has run out, seems to be copied a lot. I made a toolpost grinder several years ago from a pneumatic die grinder. It works quite well but uses a ton of air. Electric die grinder would be a better option for the poor mans grinder. I was going that route until finding this one. Cheers...ATB...

9:22, if it is a hair over 1/1,000, wouldn't that add up to about 4/1,000 [.004].....
