"not the most padded shoulder strap" seems a bit of an understatement given that the only less comfortable options would have been a rope or maybe a chain... The bag interests me though. But you do seem very kind to the bags in all your reviews.

Great review Danny! I'm surprised you didn't mention the Black Ember Forge. When I was looking for a 3 in 1 bag, eventually it came down to the forge vs the mystery ranch. The design and the amount of pockets is what made me go with the forge 🙂

The previous model was nice. Shame they removed the Velcro patch inside the bag I would stick a maxpedition pouch there to hold keys and other small items. Bag always felt like it was 5 liters smaller than it was.

Looks nice and robust, ready to be taken on a hike as well. Only I find it very thick. I wonder how it looks for daily office use when carrying just a laptop and not much else. Also, it is thicker than the maximum thickness as an extra item for many airlines. Another complaint is about the bottom of the triangle, which stays open. I wonder if that can be an issue when its raining while carrying it in backpack mode.

Thanks for doing a great review for this bag. I have been on the hunt for a top-load stand-on-its-own bag for personal/underseat item that can be accessed with one hand. I saw your top bag video for budget airlines and bounced over to this review from there. I think I have narrowed it down to MR 3 way brief 18, MR District Pro, Aer Gym Duffel 3, and lastly the Aer Pro Pack 20L (I know this is a back pack). I've been looking for something that hits the 40 x 30 x 15 cm-ish mark. I primarily will use it for tech gear. In your opinion, is there anything else, that's not a back pack, that I should consider in the 18-22L range?

The backpack straps on the older models were more comfortable and had chain webbing, which I miss. These are too contoured making them very uncomfortable. Also, a huge fail in the main compartment with disjointed hi-viz areas. The whole compartment should have been hi-viz. The orange areas are in useless places. It’s still hard to find things in that compartment. I owned the prior version of the wildfire black and upgraded thinking the hi-viz was everywhere. Definitely not worth the upgrade.
