Mystic Aquarium - White Beluga Whale Splashes Audience

The whales at Mystic Aquarium were having fun with the crowd, pretending to bite the glass and using their nose, mouth, and blowhole to get water over the tank wall.
TO BE CLEAR the guy in the video isn’t pounding on the glass, but rather rubbing it to make contact without reverberating through the tank.

@JayLeeBeanzbetter than the species going extinct. You people act like it's hell for the beluga. It's got friends, it gets free food, it gets social needs, it gets a enclosure that is up with regulations, its safe from predators and the money the zoo makes goes directly to saving other members of the species from illegal fishing, disease ect.
@baldhead7759
@baldhead7759 3 года назад
JayLeeBeanz A Shark does not kill quick, that whale will be going through hell if a Shark decided to attack as it’d attempt to take a bite out of the sides of it and basically guillotine, it’d be suffering way more than it does in a happy and fun enclosure. I mean dying slowly however in a happy environment where you get all the care, all the food, and can swim without having to worry about predators? However it is sometimes the case where these animals have the worse care, however it isn’t always like that.
@EndertheDragon0922
@EndertheDragon0922 3 года назад
Bee Bee Nyne Eee actually, whales and similar animals don’t have enough space. They’re meant to live in giant oceans. Without this space, they get depressed and bored. When they get depressed and bored, some begin to self harm by slamming into walls. It’s really sad. I was in an environmental science class last year and we learned about all sorts of things. Whales outside of zoos aren’t much better due to noise pollution but that’s a story for another day.

It’s really hard being into animals and also having zero problems with (most) zoos. Seeing comments like “release him!!!” is tiring. Most things in zoos are raised in captivity, stop acting like all animals are stolen from the wild now. I’d love to work for a zoo, honestly.
@sarina76667
@sarina76667 10 месяцев назад
In the wild, animals are in a constant state of fight or flight. They’re in survival mode. I feel like a good sanctuary, zoo, or aquarium puts these animals in a situation where we get to see and experience these animals when they’re not just surviving. They get to play, form bonds, experience things they wouldn’t normally experience like music and art. I think facilities have an obligation to continue evolving, but as we learn more about their behavior in survival mode versus when survival needs are already met I think facilities will naturally adjust to their needs. I think it’s thanks to these facilities and sanctuaries that we get to learn just how intelligent and emotional these animals are. How similar they are to us and how we fit in their world. We’re recognizing whole societies, languages, and how they organize themselves. None of that would be possible without seeing what they’re like outside of survival mode and differentiating between instinct and individual personalities. None of these animals are just mindless beasts to us anymore because of good facilities like these. I think in my generation we remember how it used to be. Visiting roadside zoos and legitimate zoos that were mostly concrete back then. You go back even further and there were human zoos. People and animals chained up in concrete enclosures. I think the original anti-zoo people remember all of that and hype the new generations up to not see the difference between back then and now. They have this all or nothing approach that simply isn’t practical.

While zoos and keeping animals in enclosures can seem cruel and inhumane, please also remember that many places are conservations that rescue these animals and keep them alive, or save them from becoming extinct (most of these animals are endangered bc of humans ironically). There are also places that prepare the animals for the wild, so that once they are healed or old enough, they will be released and won't immediately perish in the wild. Putting them on display is probably a way to raise money to help the rescues as well as educate the guests about these creatures. Not saying that every zoo is like that, and there are indeed many places that are extremely cruel. I also don't know much about this specific place either, but I just wanted to put this out there because conservations are extremely important in saving animals and we should always do our research before forming a general opinion!

Literally the first rule of aquariums is don’t tap on the glass. He gets what he deserves for his insolence.

Beluga death rates are higher in captivity than they are in the wild. While belugas live up to 60 years in the wild, in captivity they very often die before the age of 30 and sometimes much earlier.

I wonder if it learned that splashing people with cold water would make em stop tapping on the glass or if the trainers cleverly taught it that
