Except the idea that what touches the roof of the mouth is the predominent flavor is bullshit. There are no tastebuds on the roof of your mouth. In fact, when eating sushi, it's recommended to turn it over so the flavor goes on your tongue.

I would love a “rubbery food” themed myth munchers! Like, how do you clean mushrooms? Does rinsing them really make them rubbery? Or does cooking shrimp too long really give them a rubbery texture? All things I’d like to avoid but I also don’t want poop in my shrooms..

i have never ever believed the "rinsing mushrooms makes them rubbery" bc like the way mushrooms cook is that you cook the water out?? theres already water in there why wld it be rubbery if you added more water? also they literally have dirt on them how else are you meant to fully get the dirt off!!

you do not need to wash your mushrooms, just use a brush to gently brush the mushroom and they should be fine. washing the mushrooms will just add more water to the water content in the mushrooms which is already a lot

I've tried the not washing vs washing, and I can't say there was a noticeable difference. However, nowadays, I will never not wash my shrooms. I got a pint of mushrooms once and there was straight up bird poop on there. There is more than dirt on your mushrooms! And like mentioned above - you cook all of the water out of them anyway, right? I don't believe that the tiny amount of water that might get absorbed during a rinse will make that much of a difference. Unless you're soaking your mushrooms... 🤷‍♀️

Alton Brown disproved that myth scientifically. He weighed the mushrooms before and after rinsing with water vs. brushing. There was no significant change in the weight of the mushrooms that were washed. Now shrimp-or any fish/seafood is a different matter. Any sort of protein gets rubbery/nasty if you overcook it. Shrimp/fish/seafood is just much more easily overcooked.

I think I was about 10 when my dad brought some home (in Missouri). That was the best beans and rice I had ever tasted! 49 years later it still has a permanent place in my kitchen, can't do without.

I didn't think about it the first time around, but that oil and pasta water myth is technically true it's just kind of misunderstood. The oil doesn't stop your pasta from clumping together while it's boiling, it stops your pasta from clumping together after you drain it. It's why it was so much for effortless for Josh to get a big bite of those noodles, rather than having to rip them apart like from the pot without. Feel like they gotta go back and let that one munch them.

It's been proven that flipping a steak every 30 seconds is a better method. The tenderness could be the steak itself, how it was cut, or even the sear. Typically, you want to sear for a couple minutes on each side, then flip every 30 seconds until desired temp.

It just doesn’t make any logical sense. Putting the patty on the bottom makes for a strong foundation for the rest of the toppings to firmly sit on, so the burger won’t slide around and fall apart in your hands when eating it. Especially when you are putting a lot of toppings in your burger, you really need that strong base foundation. I make veggie burgers, and I put in a bunch of toppings (besides the typical lettuce, cheese, tomato, onion, pickles, I also add sliced avocado and a fried egg). If I put the patty on top, that thing would completely fall apart. Also, they were ridiculous by saying that it tastes different/better to have the toppings on top. One of them even flipped their burger upside down so that the toppings were actually on bottom when she said that LOL. Our taste buds are on our tongue, not the roof of the mouth!

I will say, from my many years of pancake making, the best results have always been from a conventional non-stick skillet where the pan was not lubricated but the pancake batter contained an adequate amount of butter to compensate. Then you just use a stiff but still flexible and very thin plastic spatula to scooch under the pancake and flip it. Otherwise, you end up with a pancake that cooks with a somewhat spotty browning and texture on the show side. Also, I don't bother with a thick batter, as it just takes longer to cook to a consistency where you can flip it without dumping the liquid core of the pancake all over the place. Go for the consistency of brownie batter and just let it poof as much as it's going to poof. A thin pancake absorbs syrup more thoroughly anyway, whereas a thick pancake will have a dry center. I typically use Pearl Mill pancake mix that I make with a half stick of melted butter per portion of batter mix and I use milk instead of water, but you can just add additional butter to any pancake recipe. It does work better if all of the ingredients are room temperature so the butter doesn't resolidify while you're mixing it. One of my favorite variations is to add some vanilla yogurt, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cardamom, and clove to the batter along with some extra sugar or honey, then top with apple butter once the pancakes are done cooking before drizzling with syrup.

My favourite way to make just a basic, normal grilled cheese is to use aged cheddar (sliced or grated) and a goodly spread of "imperial cheddar". Also that cheese makes KD or any mac so much better imo

Two questions for you: What is “imperial cheddar? What is “KD?“ and I sure hope that you are grating the cheese yourself, because store-bought grated cheese is nasty and won’t melt remotely as well as cheese you grate at home, because of the anti-caking agents they put in it.

Ok the first time around I watched the grilled cheese episode, V says she got 2 right. And I rewound and paused so many times and couldn’t figure out where the 2nd thing was. This time around I did it again, thought I had deja vu for a sec till I remembered I think I commented on the original vid. But then I forgot to see replies. So I’m commenting again. She only got 1 right, correct? The last one just says American not Kraft singles so I think that’s where she got confused? Either way. We ate spaghetti tossed and topped growing up. My mom would put some sauce in with the noddles to keep them from drying out and then we’d put more on top.

For the spaghetti, my Italian family has always used a little sauce to toss the noodles and save the rest to put on top. idk if anyone else does that though.
