Mythbusting: "Phase correct speakers" are not phase correct (in relation to the drivers)

When people talk about "phase correct" speakers,
the extent of phase correctness just extends to the crossover region. Not the entire frequency range.
DSP can correct phase response (it can correct anything), but it also injects its own gremlins as the behavior of the system is more complex than just phase and amplitude. This video is not about the DSP, it is about the behavior of the loudspeaker drivers, and what is it that people call as phase correct loudspeakers - they are not phase correct, just they have no abrupt phase discontinuity.

Yes...........and that's where ( most) commercial crossovers fail............even when the specifications in the glossy papers tend to convince you of the contrary....

Beautiful specs in beautiful brochures. Keep the dream alive. Big shock when heard at shows LOL. I remember the first high end show I went to. Turned up my modest K7 tape deck and headphone combo was actually better sounding than quite a few of the high-end gear. Worst of show was the most expensive room... B&W Nautilus quad-amped with 8 gargantuan solid state monoblock pieces of the amplifier of the year of Europe... of course, highest accolades in press. The other most expensive room (AN) actually delivered big time. Everything is to be experienced, on paper money talks honesty walks.

YT ate this post (because of the link), but managed to recover it: By True Taylor: "You seem to be unfamiliar with the use of FIR filters for phase correction. There are actually multiple ways to compensate for the time delay, but the typical process involves creating a profiled all pass filter that accurately unwraps phase rotation (based on your exact loudspeaker measurements). The lower the frequency you are trying to compensate to, the longer your overall time delay must be, but at around 40ms total delay you can get quite accurate phase response (+-10 deg, though this level of accuracy is hardly necessary, and filter simplicity should be prioritized) down to around 30hz. I know it's doable, as we have an entire system that I've built based on this process. It can be achieved with a 230$ Minidsp 2x4HD unit and it's FIR functionality. If you want to look at a commercial setup that uses this strategy, take a look at the Meyersound BlueHorn system. They achieve around +-40deg down to 20hz. meyersound.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/bluehorn_freq_phase-full.jpg " --> Thank you Taylor for your post! Indeed, with DSP many things are possible, it is a wonderful tool and many do like it unreservedly, and I also recommend to have fun with it. I primarily listen to analog media, and any digital in the mix throws it out of whack to my ears. Sorry, those who follow my channel know that I have a purist approach, and sadly sometimes this shows as less than accurate title-creation. I should adjust the title of this video to there are no phase correct speakers without DSP... ; )

Any single driver is a phase correct source it’s limited in frequency response but correct completely in phase

Sadly, there's no ultimate right or wrong, each technology has strengths and weaknesses. It's just a choice, and the knowing that whatever we choose has both strengths and weaknesses.

Why does a sealed cabinet go out of phase?
@realworldaudio
@realworldaudio 10 месяцев назад
It is because the driver uses the voice coil, and the coil has inductance... which affects the phase.

Bro I wanted to ask you, I was having difficulty finding the pre tubes for darling amp, I'm able to get ecc81 , 6dj8 , ef86, can anyone of these be used in the darling amp

OK! Will show how to use it and what it is good for. I want you to be able to use it, will give you a lot of freedom! ;

@@IDontExist14 Technically all of them can be used, but it will be quite different from a Darling amp. The secret of Darling is the match between driver tube and power tube. Of these, I would try the ECC81, that's closest to the 6J4 in parameters and would probably work the best.

@@realworldaudio thankz bro the tubes are about to arrive very soon, Monday they will be here really excited, I also got a pair of el84 and some pre tubes for that as well
