Very informative video. I never knew that there is something known as over lubing. I use maxima chain wax but now I realized it ain't necessary to use it in excess. Cheers mate.
Very good to see that you mentioned not to start the engine and engage the 1st or the 2nd gear in any case as it may cause loss of fingers or could be deadly! I read the same happening to somebody on Team-BHP forum. The video is very good, informative and is a very good myth buster! Till now I was under impression that chain should be heavily lubed. Thanks for busting this myth! Happy MotoVlogging dear....
Another great video! Add a note about the direction of wheel travel - just like the way you rotated it - moving the wheel backwards or anticlockwise when moving the wheel from the left side of the bike to keep fingers away from the rear sprocket.
Please do a video on how u'll clean the chain, when it is totally dirty wen u were riding in rain. Happy to say that ur videos are teaching much knowledge on bikes how to maintain .
Very helpful video cause my brother and I used to use too much lubricant while lubricating the bike chain as a result we had to change our sprocket and chain very early assuming that the quality of the sprocket wasn't right. Thnx for the informative video. Keep it up
Cool video, all points are spot on... In regard to few points on chain wax spray "not there" in 'India' needs to be checked out. it is available By Rolon in market sold in 500ml and 200 Ml (short cans/ Travelers kit). One thing mentioned By Rolon is not to use Kerosene on chain to clean the chain made by Rolon they damage the rubber 'O' rings and X rings on KTM models... (yes it is surprising not to use kerosene to clean a chain) they had advised to use chain cleaner only and not any thing else. (dont use paint thinner on chain and not to use coconut oil for lubing the chain/ yes i have few odd riders who use this logic....) safe ride to alll
I was spending so much money on lubes bcz i used it very excessively, almost 10 times more than what you did, still my chain gets damaged around 10k kms or so, now i got the idea, thanks man.
+Kamesh SS Oh boy. Very sorry about that mate.. Take care! Thank you for watching my video. Hope you are subscribed to my channel and do enjoy my other videos too. Wish you a nice day!
Yes it's very true, I have 6 stitches on my knuckles. I was inspecting a noise from chain and my leg slipped, forcing hand into lower chain and within a second my hand ran into the sprocket. My mistake? Running the engine and soapy wet floor from water wash.
There are many people who hardly maintain their vehicle. Just fill her up and ride onnn!! Tbh I am one among them!! Could u like make a video as to what all we could check and tidy up on our bikes ourselves so as to maintain it well!?? Would help a lot!!! Thanks :)
Thanks for the tips! Service center spilled lube on alloy wheels and rotors and brake pads, now my rear brake makes noise, how to clean wheels and brakes?
I'm using Motul chain lube but what i observed that even after lubing my chain started rusting (Only in Monsoon). So i apply a thin layer on greece and that has helped me in avoid rust. So basically its a combination of lube and thin layer of greese. please let me know your thoughts.
your video was very informative. I have TVS Apache RTR 200 and I use Motul C2 Chain lube only not cleaner. can you suggest at him much KM interval should I lube it n do I need to use cleaner as well? Your expertise are welcome. thank you for posting this video
One more trick Sir... After lubing a thick piece of sponge can be used to soak up excess lube And a mix of ep 90 and 140 gear oil works as good as motul chain lube... And economical in case of absence of chain lube..
+Vivek Singh Yes mate! You are correct :) Thanks for the inputs mate! Basically, we need to keep the chain neat and wipe off all the excess lube.. Thanks for watching and hope you have subscribed to my channel and do enjoy my other videos also.
Fantastic video bro!!! And frnds, the guy is right abt not starting the bike and putting it in gear while cleaning the chain. My friend almost lost his finger to his FZ. Trust me, the situation was so bad you really don't want to be in that situation. I bought a baby ceeber a few months back, sadly i don't have a paddock. So left this part to the mechanic. Will make sure next time if he is following this procedure. Keep up the gud work bro!!! Waiting for more of your videos. :)
Thank you Mr. Vikas for another informative video, learned about wax based lubs today thanks to you. I have an enquiry concerning kerosene, I've seen KTM SV mechanics use it to clean and degrease the chain while washing the bike, will it cause any damage or increase the wear and tear of the chain/sprocket?
I have a question please reply me. I have just bought a new motorbike Yamaha R3. It’s only 600km’s ridden. Does a well lubricated chain effects the ride of your motorcycle? Does it smooth your motorbike ride? Now I want to tell you something, last time when I got my bike washed from a service station and I rode my bike back to home OH MAN the bike was riding smooth AF !!! It was buttery smooth !! Why is that? I really want my motorbike to run butter smooth just like when I got it washed. Please reply 🙏
on a side note, I am planning to buy a paddock stand to lubricate the chain on my R3 however came across Moto Jack a portable paddock by an Indian company called blueburns. Do you think it is a better buy over conventional paddock? I will just be using it to clean chain and rims.
Hello Vikas, really helpful videos, much appreciated! Can you also tell about the paddock stand you are using, I noticed you are using it without any swingarm spools. I have a Pulsar RS200 and maybe this solution would solve my problem as well as I just could not find any paddock stands available here..
+Logiken Logik Thank you very much mate! Yes, it is a very useful stand. Please write to me at iammotorbiker@gmail.com and I will give you the information and contact info to buy the stand:) Hope you enjoy My other videos too and hope you are subscribed! Cheers mate!
Vikas sir while lubing the chain, should I lube the sides and the bottom just like you did?? And is diesel fine to clean the chain because WD40 Everytime is quite expensive
Hey Vikas good job on your video. I have a doubt btw. Is it really required that we should use a chain cleaner before a chain lube? Or can we directly apply the chain lube?
Sahil N Mohammed Hello mate! Thank you for watching! Yes, it is required to use a chain cleaner to make sure you remove any dirt or previous sticky lube from the chain. If your chain looks clean but only very dry, then just use a cloth to clean it and you can apply the lubricant. Hope you are subscribed to me mate! Have a nice day!
Gear oil is THE best lubricant for your chain. The chain manufacturer says it on the box. DO NOT use WD40, it is a penetrating oil and it will penetrate inside the chain pins and dissolve the lubricant that is sealed in there. For cleaning, kerosene is also the product that is suggested by chain manufacturer. Not diesel. But to be honest, you will never need to clean your chain if you use gear oil. It is not sticky and cleans very easily.
@@Sawratkartejas glad i could help. btw, my current chain has 17k kms (roughly 11k miles) and it looks like new only by using transmission oil. i only cleaned it twice because i had nothing to do. and in that period, i never had to adjust the tension of the chain. it still has the length it had in the beginning, while i use my bike on all kinds of terrain (including dirt and mad) and it has a fairly large suspension travel. switching from useless spray cans to transmission oil was probably one of the smartest things i did for my bike lol
@@akulchadha2069 yes, at least in my experience and in many if my friends experience. You will not need kerosene if you use gear oil. It literally cleans off with a pressure washer when you clean your bike
what lube should I use in my pulsar 150 chain, gear oil or any other chain lube... is it necessary for me to go with expensive chain lube like motul... my chain is having a full cover... how often should i clean and lube my chain? thank you sir
Hi Vikas.Yor videos are very informative.Just a quick question since KIT chain lubes are not availbale in India. Will WD-40 folllowed by a Motul lube server the purpose of maintaining the chain?
Others just use WD40 without any additional lubricants and swear by it. Like you stated it does all three things in one. You just have to apply it a little more frequently than standard chain lubes but seemingly it works. What's your opinion on that?
Good advice about not starting the bike. When I was a kid my neighbor did exactly that on his moped and lost half his ring finger. I'll never forget that day.
Vikas, brother, could you try using kerosene to clean the chain? Lore has it that degreasers damage the internal chan lube(inside the rollers), which comes from the factory. And kerosene is a good solvent for grease but a bad penetrating fluid so it doesn't get inside the chain o-rings. Make a video too perhaps?
Hey Vikas.. I have RE Bullet 350 (ES). Usually RE has O-Ring chains.. I heard that there are different set of lubricants used for cleaning chains.. Can you please let us know which type of lube has to be used to clean sprockets and chains for RE bikes.
i in general wash the chain with the help of kerosene and tooth brush and put a thick green colour sea oil or imaging the oil thickness of about 140 grade oil for first 2 days little spill will be seen but clean and u would be good to go
Liked your running in vid but not sure about this one. Firstly, a lot of people are against WD40 for cleaning then chain as it is a harsh de greaser and can destroy the o ring seals which are very important for longevity in a chain. Also, a cloth with not clean nearly as well as a brush which gets into the links removing abrasive dirt. But I guess there is more than one way to bake a cake....
Mr.Vikas can you please make a video on different grades of engine oil, particular grade to particular bike. Example Grade for commuting, grade for heavy touring. Hope it will be useful not only for me but also for new riders.
Sir rainy season is going on i have cleaned and lubed the chain. But when i come home after a ride dirty rain water stick with sand and dirt. Just wanna what should be the procedure before parking in rainy season after a slushy ride. Should we again clean the chain or let it remain as it is. Please reply🙏🙏
