When the Mummy, starring Boris Karloff, was released by Universal studios in 1932 it was inspired by a real event, and drew upon a mix of ideas, some new, and some very old. So what is the truth behind the legend of the mummy returned from the dead? The mummy came somewhere between the myth, the monster, and history.

BORIS KARLOFF PLAYED THE VERY 1ST MUMMY MOVIE!, THE ORIGINAL MUMMY!. NO GRAFICS, BORIS KARLOFF SET IN THE MAKE UP CHAIR FOR 8 - 12 HOURS TO BE WRAPPED UP, AND HAVING MAKE UP PUT ON, ( DIRT, ASH. AND MORE ) ACTUALLY WAS WRAPPED UP AS MUMMY AND WAS PUT IN THE CASKET AND THE LID WAS PUT ON. LIKE HE WAS BURIED ALIVE. THANK YOU. HAVE A NICE DAY.

Archeaologists in Egypt have found a mummy in a tomb in the pyramids made of chocolates and hazelnuts His name is Pharaoh rocher. What is a mummy's favorite genre of music? Wrap music. How is an Egyptian mummy similar to a fart? They have a toot in common.

Oh I’ve got a mummy story. In 2016, the archaeological project I used to work for was excavating a Middle Kingdom tomb. Two mummies and many golden artifacts were found. The night after they pulled them from the earth, the guards robbed us and ran off with the mummies. Then, the boss goes and reports the theft and the police chief says they already caught them. The two guards, 16 year olds carrying AKs, were given a lengthy beating with a staff. The mummies were not recovered and we were never allowed back.
@skyden24195

That's unfortunate that the project suffered because of two dumb, likely-malevolence greed-influenced kids.

We mustn't forget the work of Alfred Hitchcock and his character, Norman Bates, who 'reanimated' his deceased mother in the 'Psycho'! And then centenarian, Mel Brooks, who brought us 'Young Frankenstein', with the mad Dr Frankenstein portrayed hilariously by Gene Wilder, with supporting cast mates Peter Boyle, as the reanimated monster, assistant to Dr Frankenstein, Teri Garr, Gene Hackman, as the blind man, Marty Feldman as the hump shifting, eye wandering brain chooser, Cloris Leachman and Madeline Kahn!
@goodun2974
@goodun2974 16 часов назад
There's a documentary film about the making of Young Frankenstein which contains many bloopers and mistakes from the original filming. It is hysterical! Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder said they were having so much fun that they didn't want the filming to end and so they kept writing new scenes!

I think the Brendan Fraser movie gets a too much hate. Despite everything else, it is genuinely entertaining.
@skyden24195
@skyden24195 7 часов назад
Agreed. Really, for me the only or most disappointing aspect of the Fraser/Weiz installment(s) is the use of an actual, central-bonded book for the "Book of the Dead," as opposed to a scroll. Using the names of real, historical, Egyptian persons and giving them new, fictional narratives is one thing, but taking something that is well-known to be completely, historically inaccurate is another. It'd be like the movie depicting the Pyramids at Giza as rectangular towers akin to modern skyscrapers.

Reliable Grapevine authority has it that H.M. King Farouk often had "The Mummy" and the few that closely followed, shown at the Kubbah Palace theater. The ever-fascinated boy within young Prince Farouk never left him, I think. On the other hand his father H.M. Fuad was rather stern and an indefatigable task-master, having the Palace staff UP very early to get to work. That staff sighed a sure sigh of relief when Farouk became King; then all arising rather later to far milder duties! HISTORY GUY -- you could do far worse than focusing on the three Kings of Modern Egypt (the last one alive-still and kicking!) for after all, that history deserves remembering too, just as here with their celluloided mummies.

I wish you had said more about the Poe story, which is so different than all the others, with the plot revolving around the Mummy being a time traveller. Rather than the modern characters being the most scientifically advanced the culture of ancient Egypt is presented as much more developed. (Also Europeans, during the 19th century, had also used mummies as fuel, burning them in locomotives and using their ground-up bodies for a particular brown paint, and the guilt of using them in such ways may have also inspired a guilt that led to a fear of the Mummy's Curse.)

I grew up a Star Trek fan (seeded to Roddenberry by my parents), and watched a lot of scifi and fantasy, and was introduced to gaming via Star Fleet Battles designed by Steve Cole. I was going to put things like D&D or warsims up on the big screen, but my mother and her friends didn't like me gaming, and torpedoed every effort. Decades later screenwriters play games and write screenplays based on their gaming session. The modern Mummy is such a film.

Perfume used to use whale puke!
@goodun2974
@goodun2974 16 часов назад
 A few extremely expensive perfumes still do use Ambergris, the waxy intestinal product of squid-eating sperm whales. The whales neither puke it up nor defecate it; the lump of squid beaks and wax builds up into the digestive system until it causes a blockage, the animal dies, and the Ambergris floats free as the whale's body disintegrates. The more time it spends floating at sea the more it purifies, ages, and concentrates its aroma. Beachcombers who specialize in finding it, especially in places like Australia and New Zealand, can earn a lot of money if they get lucky. See the book"Floating Gold".

Nevertheless, I'm a fan of many of the original Universal monster movies, including The Wolf Man, which came 8 years later, but for my money is the best and most original of the bunch. Of course they made many movies where most of these cut-ups got together, except for the Mummy because the geographic settings were incompatible.
