Tonight I have finished soldering and heat shrinking the electrics all terminated in the headlamp unit , even polished a 42 year old front rim .
The only thing to do is replenish the gearbox oil and when my airbox arrives I can install the battery and hopefully start the East German beast up.

How did he find it and does he still wish he had kept it . It was the first proper bike I was taking pillion on at the time around 1983 I thought strange rattly and odd, but not now age has changed my view on this machine .

I owned one many years ago. It was prone to carb icing.

@@captbarb6642 the motor would slow and behave as if the choke was on, then stop. It happened a bunch of times until in desperation I took the carb off at the roadside to see a thin steam hovering in the crankcase inlet throat. Then I knew. High humidity tended to encourage it.

@@captbarb6642 on a motor car, they often pre-heat the inlet air. We bikers dont have that luxury.

I think some old ducatis had carb heaters thinking 851 era.
