This man and his father are two of the most underrated people in the world.

Not only underrated, but often maligned. So... probably doing it right.

I idolized my family- but in His grace, the Lord corrected me and taught me more about Himself.

One of my favorite messages. My brother and I were at Grace Agenda when this was preached and it had a profound impact on both of us.

That was such a challenging message for me! It rings true, I'll be working on it for a while. Thank you for your faithfulness to preach the hard things.

Wow, this really opened my mind, on many levels, about the truth of why I am here! I've never heard it put this way before. Thank you!

If you liked this you'll love his nonfic (Notes from the Tiltawhirl or Death by Living). And we don't publish those so we're not biased... (or at least maybe only a little).

This is such an excellent sermon. Very challenging. I shared it with others as this is probably one of the more important exhortations we need to hear in our generation.

This was really good. I kept waiting for him to mention how the Tribe of Benjamin trained the men to fight left handed. Aside from feeding your kids old fashioned fairy tales and adventure stories I also recommend the Dangerous Book for Boys and Dangerous Book for Girls for great ideas on independence and courage fostering activities. There's a book with a similar message called "Do Hard Things" that I've actually yet to read but have on my list.

sadly to little scripture (was there scripture) and to many selective bible characters (thought I was listening to Joel Osteen) to make his point. Case in port 20:00 "God raised his prophets to be immune to what the world thinks" Sadly this is not that case as God was working with humans and some have certain God given types of characters to achieve Gods will, on a few cases it may seems extreme. But don't set this as a prophetic standard or any such thing for Christians unless, prophets like moses, elijah, or jonah aren't men of God neither, as they had fears of men. I'm more concerned that this sermon is more someones personal wisdom rather than God's wisdom. Lets keep it simple, "raise your Children in the way of the Lord and they will not depart."

Allan this isn't a sermon but a conference talk. But thanks for your engagement!

Just a side note about that verse. There is a very strong case to be made that it should be translated, “Train up a child in his way, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Rendered that way it is a warning against the natural way of sin. Which I think ironically helps make the point of this conference talk.

@@Petertutinski I suppose you could translate it that way if you wanted but you would have to ignore many other scriptures (Deu 4:9, 11:19, Eph 6:4) that support its current and general translation. Anyway its still an immature teaching and scripture should be used at conferences, I find pastors are nothing special except for the power of the word, respect should be given to those who exposite it well.

Allan Hutton I understand the necessity for expository preaching to be scripture filled. This though, is not that. He is not a pastor. Just like our conversation isn’t either which is why we are having a dialog and not doing exegesis. There’s room for many types of communicating. The Christian should have a thoroughly biblically saturated consciousness and those that do are a joy to listen to. Be ye imitators of God...

This was a TED talk bathed in Christo-conservative trappings. Very little scripture, very little profit.
