This is so incredible for me, it's almost emotional! I've been out of the hobby 24 years, and one of the first videos I see, besides the unreal, awesome BNSF video in N-scale, is a chronicle of an American passenger train. The scenery and camera work are incredible, as are the authentic sounds. Gives me a new respect for the beauty of Amtrak trains, as I've always been a stickler for the old cab units. I've no money - and no room - to enjoy this hobby anymore, but being able to see this is as close as I can now get, and it brings me incredible enjoyment. I free-lanced the modern era in the late 80's/early 90's with my Texas Central and Pacific Railroad, and we just didn't have the modern-era cars and structures that you have in N-scale today. Great, great job!
Whats is great about the Coast Starlight is that out of all of Amtrak's 20+ trains it is the most popular and extraveggant. The route is the only one that covers different scenery. With the exception of the Sunset Limited. Because Oregon and California are so spaced out and there is so much mountains and forest, people can feel the sense of isolation when they are on the Coast Starlight. I looked online at Amtrak.com and let tell you the Coast Starlight has a very interesting and curvy route.
Fantastic layout, fantastic video, great action of my favorite long distance Amtrak train & freight action of BNSF & UP as well as other freight locomotive power.
Incredible realism! Great work, scenery A-1, signals, over and under just stunning! It's great that we N-Scalers finally have so much stuff available as I go back to the Life Life days. Kato started the ball rolling and it's great to live close to Atlas tool company and know people that worked there lol...Great stuff, keep them coming!!!
Wow! Great video and great layout. Thanks for posting. Really like the added sound, or do your trains really make that sound since everything else is so realistic?
@TrashMan2008 Thank you! That lounge car was from the 10 car El capitan set KATO makes, I painted it and decaled it. Also the LED's are made by Richmond Controls, they are fairly expensive but for the size, and pre-soldered leads it worth it link: (normal preheader) ulrichmodels (dot) biz/servlet/the-DCC-Components-cln-LEDs/Categories
@6004billabong if you mean the sounds, i added clips from real trains. if you mean the movement; that's all with DCC. the layout is equipped with both analogue and DCC but with the effect ditchlights, sound, and other lights i prefer DCC.
kato has made the p42 much lighter in color than it actualy is. it should be the color of your dash-8. but katos most recent p42s (150, and 195) are the true dark blue color.
This has been a great video to watch. Can you tell me what kind of lounge car that was? Not the reguler one, but the different car as well as who makes it. Plus what LEDs did you install for the ditch light operations. Very, very well done, thanks for all your efforts, and time. What an enjoyment this was. Peace to you
The Coast Starlight having on average 10 to 12 cars is common. During the summer months it's common for the Coast Starlight to have 14 cars. I rode the Coast Starlight 3 times, I travel Long distance by Amtrak trains.
did pennsy I the 40s lost all to a divorce. This hobby is addicting. We all know that. Your stuff is great but you can be great . It is the little things are fixed .
I wish I had the internet for advice all I had was model railroad craftsman magazine. Lots of my ideas are being applied now to the hobby. I am here if you need pointers that's what makes this hobby different than others . We like to share our experience
