If I would have known that these were going to be such a hot commodity, I would have acquired one when I was on active duty. They were great jackets on the ship.
Just bought an original one in great condition, what do you recommend for care and maintenance? I don’t want to risk ruining a great jacket when I need to wash it.
Great you found one! I'd really not do much to it. Don't Wash It! If it's smelly, just leave it in the sun for a little. I think washing will ruin it. I'd add a little bees wax to the zipper to help it work better, but besides that, patch up any holes and wear it!
Recently got a black N1 repro from ATF for only $50 total with shipping (closeout). It's incredibly warm, comfortable, and looks + fits great. Only issue is that it's so warm that I probably won't be able to wear it much since the area where I live has mild winters, usually hovering around the 30s to mid 40s.
Really nice jacket Derek, I had a Buzz Ricksons N1 but it was more of a tan colour - I prefer yours as its more Olive Green. Is this just the lighting or do they have Olive Green ones as well?
Thanks. When I bought it they had 3 versions I think. This one, the Demotex and the William Gibson. I think there was only one color for the standard. It's super close to the original too.
@@derekdoeschannel how does it hold up with colour fading and shrinkage? I know with most cotton products when damp u can stretch them back to size if they shrink but with this having a liner it might be not possible?
I've not heard of any issues with shrinkage. But I don't wash my coat. They're made for getting wet on ships though so I don't think you'll have any issues. They will fade a bit from the sun though over the years. The liner is actually like a rug in a way so it won't shrink as it's not really woven like a cloth.
One thing is that N-1s were never khaki. They were issued in olive drab only. The reason why people think they are in khaki, is because they faded to khaki, due to salt air mainly. Sun also faded the jacket.
I have the “ Real McCoy “ in this colour and an “ Eat Dust “ in blue , the cut of the eat dust feels better on my body and was half the price of the real McCoy I wear it most every day in winter.
That jacket looks too big on you. I don't know why modern Americans like oversized clothing. Even the not overweight Americans wear a few sizes too big.
I had two of these. I have trouble because I have wide shoulders and need to find a jacket that fits, but the downside is they're too wide for me in the middle. These are not fashion jackets but made for Wartime use. The WWII original is slightly smaller and fits better.
