Hi im korean user and i watch a lot of your channel :) When i was elementary school boy I spend a lot of time for cruising usa at acade center Wonderful game and kind little cheesy but its fun if you want play this you need handle controller! Love it! Hope you guys are cheer up Corona will end up soon!! Great alliance forever between two great nation go together!
I have a question about the listing because I’ve been wanting to get some of these, when you pay the 28 dollars for the stickers do they send a sticker for every cartridge or is it 28 dollars each, because if it’s for every cartridge that’s a great deal!
Yep, should have been above some others on the list, but these are personal opinions so you can't really criticize them so much. Still I spent many hours playing this game with my bro.
San Francisco Rush was my jam back in the day, I remember throwing a cd into my kenwood portable cd player and just racing for hours on end in my bedroom.
Me and my friends too! We always did a circuit with one explosion deaths on. And then take turns when either winning or blowing up. This game had the most awesome physics
its actually not that small. There are 150+ good games, and to beat or to master them all, you 'll need about 2-3 years of your life - its about half of ps4 lifetime
Runplays in HD while not as small as the Saturns it was small compared to its competitor the PlayStation had like 1.3k games to play and even with the short life span of the Dreamcast it still managed to get 600+ games
@@plutosmash6068 but that doesnt matter how many games N64 has, you'll need at least 3 years to beat them all. So much time to beat a small bunch of games, hein? :)
Runplays in HD Exactly, most people only really think of their marios, zeldas, smash, fps games, yet no one ever sees other games like mischief makers, chameleon twist, harvest moon or the Goemon games.
There's an official reskin of Beetle Adventure Racing also for the N64 released exclusively in Australia titled HSV Adventure Racing which simply swapped out the Volkswagen Beetles with Holden Special Vehicles / GM sports cars. A sequel for Beetle was also in development but ultimately cancelled.
No mention of Destruction Derby 64 :( also random fact Beetle Adventure Racing got a complete reskin in Australia called HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) Aventure Racing.
Honourable additions: 1080 Snowboarding. Still the ‘WaveRace’ of snowboarding games.ExciteBike64. The same but with bikes. Ridge Racer64. NST developed and smooth, clear, superb game.
The most popular 64 game, in my friend group, is Micro Machines 64. It's single screen and top down, and it's incredibly fast and you die when you fall too far behind on the screen, or leave the track for too long. When there's only one car remaining, everybody either loses or gains points and then they respawn. The bite-size rounds remind me of games like Towerfall.
My favorites from your video are : 1) mariokart (obviously!) 2) Hydro thunder (I have the dream cast version in my collection) 3) Cruis'n USA (reminds me of the out run arcade game)
See I love the fact that you're posting your list not bitching like other people are doing just because he left a game out of his list. and 9 out of 10 times its a unpopular game
San Francisco Rush 2049, good honorable mention. I hope you review it a bit more in the next video. That game is loaded with shortcuts, collectibles, battle/stunt modes, ghost racing, and tons of unlockable parts/cars/tracks.
+SkyHighGam3r The EU-PAL Version does have Beetles aswell. HSV was exclusive to australia.. kinda expensive because of it. Much like snowboard kids 2 which only had PAL release in australia but was never released in europe.
Not many people talk about it, but Penny Racers was always a favorite with me, and my friends back in the day, and my 2 nephews still ask to play it from time to time when they come over.
It was so hard to convince my friends back in the day how amazing Beetle Adventure Racing was. "I know it's just the same car with different paint, but seriously guys, this game is amazing!" Part of the problem was also that other kids my age just weren't into straight up racing games. It was either stuff like Mario Kart or nothing. I thank my dad for getting me into racing games at such a young age. Nowadays I can spend just as many hours playing Forza Horizon as I could just about anything else.
probably because Wipeout was a staple for the PS1 and thus people don't tend to associate it with Nintendo even though Wipeout64 was definitely amazing
I have a bit of a personal relationship with F-Zero X and Extreme G. Those games actually helped me conquer a childhood fear of roller coasters with inversions. Now, thanks to playing those games, I can ride anything.
"they were all about fun" What a novel concept these days, especially with racing games. I got Need for Speed PS4 in a bulk sale (a sale that scored me Mario Galaxy New in Box no less) and I tried to play it and I spent an hour driving from one place to another just to watch 10 minute cut scenes every time. I gave up on it.
Yeah, it's kinda sad that I consider World Driver Championship as one of the best and most fun semi-realistic racing games I ever played despite playing it for the first time last year. These days it really feels like it's either a Sim (which I do like), a Arcade / Retro tribute like Horizon Chase and Forza Horizon being left as the only real option for "Have some stupid fun with cars"
@@Soonjai I REALLY want someone to make a Motorstorm game with modern graphics and physics. Apocalypse was a such a fun and spectacular game. Tracks with giant set pieces that crumble and explode around you as you race through the chaos? Shut up and take my money!
Rush 2049 was by far the best racing game on n64. i still play it with my son. The stunt levels are amazing, and the regular racing is a lot of fun. i love being able to play the courses mirrored or backwards, because they feel like completely different stages, and finding the secret shortcuts is always a good time
Beetle Adventure Racing is actually a Need For Speed game, it was to be a NFS game but got reskinned. A debug menu found a couple of years ago comfirmed this
I was wondering if anyone would mention this. That's why i always hated that game. No beautiful sportscars, only a shitty VW! I always thought, the N64 wasn't a great console for racing games... But i'm not a fan of the 64 in general: The fog, the controller. And these first gen. 3D graphics... MJ also mentioned it, every racing game, that was also on the Dreamcast, was better there. Of course, the DC was already second gen. 3D. I have both consoles (among others) and the used games for DC (or even new ones, when they got rid of it in stores) were so much cheaper. Sega all the way...
We only had about ten N64 games growing up but two of them were racing games, Lego Racer 64 and Rush 2. I spent so many hours playing both of those games. This video makes me see how many other games I was missing out on. Too bad I wasn't in charge when I was a kid.
It was sure a fun gamble move back then. It would either put you way ahead or way behind. 😄 I was more of player that caused havoc. Who else diarrhea'd bananas on the Zip pad that jumped the gap in Wario Stadium to pretty much screw the NPCs or sometimes other players? 🤣
Yeah, removing the ability to jump from high sections of rainbow road down to lower sections in the sequel games really took away from the charm of the franchise, I think. Ruining the Wario Stadium Jump was always the best, sucks that no entries since then had an equivalent section
I have a retro arch with all the games I own licenses to. I loved being able to dig through my carts, custom labels and some in blockbuster cases. Some even have the nostalgic "property of" blue tamper proof stickers! Alas.. my physical media has all been packed away for safe keeping. I wish I had a collection like yours, but through the years it was hard to hang on to anything.. especially in the days of wheeling and dealing stuff like Pokemon cards for high value items. A Charizard for 007 GoldenEye seemed like a great idea at the time. Lol. Thanks for sharing this and all your other nostalgic throwbacks with us. Stay well, my friend.
Star Wars Pod Racer was my absolute favorite. I've never been a huge fan of the Star Wars franchise, but the music, the sense of speed and the levels just came together perfectly. I'm really excited for the re-release!
Hi! This is unrelated to the content of this video, but I want to thank MJR for doing what he does! After taking a hiatus from gaming during college and for a couple years after graduating, I'm getting into it again. I grew up with handhelds -- gameboy color, gameboy advance, and DS. Because of quarantine, I've really had an opportunity to delve into videos and devote time to games I love. It is so fun! And this channel is part of what reinspired my love of videogames. Some aspects of the gaming community online are off putting to me -- from being unwelcoming to women or harboring toxic / negative personalities. It's been awesome to discover great people doing great things, despite initial hesitations. So thank you for offering content that is relaxed, funny, informative and approachable. It means a lot!
Ridge Racer 64 is probably my favorite racer on the console! It's always overshadowed by its PS1 counterparts like Ridge Racer Type 4. But, it adds enough gameplay tweeks and vehicles to keep you coming back for more! I definitely wanna see you cover it next time!
Alot of great games mentioned here. Some I will definitely have to check out. Two games I always found myself playing were Destruction Derby and Penny Racers
Growing up I never owned Mario Kart for the N64 but I loved Cruise'n World. I played that game non stop and have a lot of good memories with my family. But as an adult I do think about collecting for N64 and picking up some games. It's awesome seeing videos like this one! Hopefully I can pick up some of these one day!
Cruis N' USA is the first video game of my own. I grew up in the 90s and before the N64 was not mine, older cousin and older brothers of my friends had NES SNES and Genesis but N64, this was mine. So cool.
One cool thing about episode one racer on the N64 was that you could actually use two controllers at the same time, one joystick controls the left engine and the 2nd joystick controls the right engine...just like in the movie!!
I can not wait to get another N64 console. I love silly arcade racing games. Looking forward to playing the Diddy Kong, Mario Kart, and Mickey Mouse racing games with my daughter. I'm introducing her to the older games and we slowly working our way to the newer and refined HD games we have today. You giving us great feed back into retro games makes it so easy for us to pick and choose what games to invest into. Thanks MJR you never disappoint 🤘
Hey Metal Jusus, the reason why Beetle Adventure Racing reminds you of early Need for Speed games is because it was published by Electronic Arts who were initially working on their new Need for Speed game for the 64 but then signed a deal with Volkswagen!
I'm a fan of most of the games on this list, especially Diddy Kong and Star Wars, but there is one N64 racing game I've never heard anyone talk about. Hot Wheels Turbo Racing is an incredible racing game for its time and completely unique from the other games on the list. It totally deserves its own spot. The (partially licensed) soundtrack alone was incredible. It actually convinced me I needed metal in my life....when I was 6! It's as if I'm the only person who knows that gem exists, and it's a travesty. I still have my copy I got from Blockbuster and it still holds up. Edit: I forgot to mention, Lego Racer is another gem I never see anywhere and it's probably my favorite racing game on the system.
Mario kart and ridge racer 64 got my into gaming when I was just a little guy now I have a collection spanning 17 consoles and it’s all thanks to the n64 and people like you who inspired me to want to preserve the history of gaming so thank you MJ and thank you to all you friends
This console was FANTASTIC for racing games. Like possibly the best platform for the genre I’ve ever seen. For the longest time, Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA was my favorite racing game ever. I need to try some of these, particularly TDO and Stunt Racer 64.
i know this video is 3 years old at this point, but i just started collecting n64 racing games that i enjoyed....the list for me is: hydro thunder(that i just got today), all of the crusin games, off road challenge, and all of the san francisco rush games.
la rush with some simple controller codes as the settings screen.... one of the best hilarious racing games i ever played. still one of my top favorites for 64, cant believe its not on the list
Rush 2 was definitely the one I sunk the most time into out of all the racing games on N64 that I had. I loved trying to collect all the keys and mountain dew cans. Some of the jumps you had to do needed to be damn near perfect. Another interesting one I had was California Speed. I'm going to have to get the N64 out one of these days and play these oldies.
Alright, if you haven't played it, Rush 2049 definitely deserves better than an honorable mention with no context. For me, it was the first game to allow a car to have wings for glide effects, and then tracks designed around you gliding, and tricking in mid-air. Since Rush 2049 began it's life as an arcade, like the rest of the Rush series, it had to be scaled back and downgraded into compatibility with the various console ports it's received over the years. However with that grew new features not present in the arcade. New-to-the-time mode was the stunt tracks, where you'd set a time limit, and push your aerial flight skills to the max for high scores, a game mode not found on any other rush games. 4 different stunt tracks, and I think about 12 different courses. It had coins to collect scattered in the hardest to find locations, and cheat codes available that were even harder to input successfully. You are remiss sir, REMISS, for skimping on the treasure that is Rush 2049. Unfortunately it's best version on home console isn't the N64 version, as it became bundleware for the Midway Arcade Treasures 3 compilation disc. I recommend going with the Xbox original version because of that native 720p compatibility, and if you have a hacked console, it's not too much more effort to load in the trainers for a quick fix on maxed out car specs. (Pulling that Z-trigger to pull out those wings on the original N64 controller sure was satisfying though.)
I rented San Francisco rush a lot back in the day. I loved looking for all the shortcuts that were hidden, one of which led to the largest ramp half pipe thing I've ever seen in a racing game. Most of the time you couldn't land without exploding. Lol!!!
I enjoyed all of these games along with San Francisco Rush, Rush 2, Extreme G 1 and 2, Excite Bike, California Speed, Destruction Derby 64, and Lego Racers. Nintendo 64 had a lot of great racing games. Oh and 1080, not motor vehicles, but still mostly racing.
Jumpin Jim Rivers!!! Great list! Reminds me of the ones I'm still missing from my collection and want to play again. Would have to add Excitebike 64, 1080 and Destruction Derby. Sooo glad you had Beetle Adventure Racing because that game was just awesome for some reason.
Extreme-G, Top Gear Rally, Beetle Adventure Racing, Diddy Kong Racing and Hydro Thunder were constantly in my N64, I played so much of those games. What I wouldn't give for a Remake of Hydro Thunder and Extreme-G.
I think that F1 World Grand Prix by Paradigm Entertainment (the same guys that made Beetle Adventure Racing) was an amazing sim game for his time and for the system. It was hard, but the racing physics, the graphics, the sounds and the controls were great. The track recreation were also very impressif.
Hey Metal Jesus, I really like your channel. From my point of view, one excellent racing game that I had on my N64 was produced and developed by Namco : Ridge Racer! A very good game with excellent graphics. I played futurist racing games as Extreme G (that I really liked), F-Zero and Wipeout.
it's all about Off Road Challenge and Excitebike 64. played the hell out of NASCAR 99, Monster Truck Madness, and World Driver Championship back in the day to
Diddy Kong Racing was so good. There was no better feeling then getting a balloon from the Elephant Genie. Extreame G racing was good then EXG3 came out and omg that game was sooo fun.
F-Zero X is my all-time favorite N64 racing game. Beetle Adventure Racing might be my second favorite. In case no one here knows, Beetle Adventure Racing can be played at a pretty solid 60 fps on an emulator. Emulation is the only way I play N64 games these days. Loved the vid, MJ. \m/
Boyz in the hood are always hard start talkin that trash we’ll pull your card. Knowin nothin in life but to be legit don’t quote me boy cus I ain’t said shittttt
Wave Race is no joke man! You’re on point on all these games! Your channel literally is my favorite man! Just wanted to let you know you truly inspire me.
I'm desperate to get an N64 and N64 Everdrive primarily because of all the incredible racing games it had. The capabilities of the hardware were just right for the genre and it allowed developers to go wild with it. We got pioneering efforts into "adventure racing" (DKR and BAR), forebearers of console "sim" racing (WDC and F1WGP), reimagined PlayStation classics (DD64, both RR64s, and WO64), all the Nintendo racing franchises at the top of their game, and great versions of all of those classic arcade racers. And most of all that with 4-player split screen!!! Other classic N64 driving/racing games on my favorites list: Aerogauge MRC: Multi-Racing Championship Penny Racers (Choro Q) SF Rush/Rush 2/Rush 2049 World Driver Championship Destruction Derby 64 Road Rash 64 Ridge Racer 64 Vigilante 8/V8 2nd Offense F1 World Grand Prix /WGP II Wipeout 64 Excitebike 64 …and more!
Road Rash 64 was a ton of fun. Played Road Rash on my Sega Genesis so I was already a fan and that game didn't disappoint. At least younger me thought so. San Francisco Rush was also a fun game.
Rush 2 played very well for its time. Had a variety of type of cars and the physics were fun I.e. explosions, wheel barrel stunts not to mention the stunt stage. Had a large cheat menu too. I miss that game 🎮🏎🚗
EXTREME G! It was a random Xmas present one year but it has its own style and music. Definitely enjoyable. I also had this weird like for automobili lamborghini n64 even though to most it was a bit bland. It was regular rental for me back in the day. And lastly one of the Motocross games I enjoyed quite a bit. Forget which one exactly.
Man the nostalgia😄 i played a lot of wave race, diddy kong, and cruisn usa I was amazed the first time i played n64. Had gotten these games and zelda and golden eye. I didnt have mario cart or rush 2 but borrowed them and those were also awesome
