I am a Fit Test Technician and you are correct on some topics and not on others. KN95's are not recognized as an approved N95 in America. KN95 is the Chinese version of our N95. NIOSH sets the manufacturing criteria for the N95's, The KN95's are not allowed here in Medical facilities because they don't meet the NIOSH criteria. The N95's are a part of the Respiratory Protection Program required by OSHA. All the other "fluff" doesn't matter to most of businesses requiring the OSHA standard. They are just trying to be compliant and not be fined. You should have a quality fit test performed each year for each model mask you use to make sure it still fits correctly and you get a proper seal. Micron size.....now here's a tip for you. How can you determine the micron size of the virus? The N95's filter out 95% of the particulates .03 microns or higher. That is a lot better than any other paper masks. No one can say what the micron size is for COVID. It fluctuates. If it's an aerosol, forget it. It's getting through. That's why were weren't allowed to sing, yell or be out doors with crowds for a while there. The goal is to make sure the Bitrex or Saccharin does not make it's way into your mouth at any time while you are under the hood fit testing. Just do it right. AND NO FACIAL HAIR ON THE CHIN OR CHEEKS! The end

I'm also a fit testing technician and industrial hygienist. The beauty of the KN95 is that it doesn't require the full enrollment in the respiratory protection program and fit testing. This means it is much faster to provide this type of mask for the general population to slow the spread of airborne transmission of even the common cold. KN95s costs less to provide pretty good protection as shown with the partial fit test in this video. If we in the US were to list it as an approved respirator, it would mean fit testing would be required annually, a medical clearance would be required, etc. These measures would effectively prevent many personnel from being allowed to utilize the KN95 mask at work for protection because few employers can support the cost of the exams and testing, but can much more readily afford to buy the masks. Even under the voluntary respirator use rules, the personnel would have to have a medical clearance and fit test to use an N95. While fit testing is valuable, it can create an obstacle to mask use. Instead of the cost of the respirator only, we now add the medical visit, the respiratory protection program management, and the fit testing. I'm happy the KN95 is not classified as a tight fitting respirator. I've also fit tested my KN95 and the results were passing. If the "exposure assessment" shows an N95 as necessary, then selection of the N95 and full enrollment in the respiratory protection program under OSHA is warranted. Thank goodness for the KN95 which is suited well for broader distribution. Thanks for reading. :-)

So, I'm not seeing a sensitivity test prior to testing here. The 3M guide explains to wear the hood with no mask, pump 10 sprays inside the hood. If the wearer can't taste it (it's taste, not smell), then you do 10 more and again another 10 if not detected. No more than 30 total. If they still cannot taste it the testing stops. Whenever you taste it, say 13 pumps, that counts as 20 and you note 20. doing this determines sensitivity of the person. You must wait at least 15 minutes or longer after the sensitivity test and should drink water to help remove the taste. When testing starts, after donning the respirator and putting the hood back on, you begin with the same number of pumps of the sensitivity test. Using the earlier example would be 20. Normal breathing for 1 minute. Then for each position tested you spray half as many in, so 10 in this case, and it's 1 minute for each position, heavy breathing, turning head, etc. Is that exceeding what the requirement is? Otherwise, how would you differentiate between people who are more sensitive to certain tastes?

Thank you for making this video, I feel that a lot of facilitators of training for students in healthcare will feel more comfortable offering fit testing for programs relating to offering care in LTC or areas where airborne illness are more common due to the nature of congestion. Thank you

If your employer asks you to wear a respirator of any kind its fed law they test ya at least once a year. If they do not get paid. Sad people don’t know basic mask laws.. its not what you were told during corona at all. Science went right out the window…

Important to note head strap on N95's must be worn more to the top of the head not low over the ears as being demonstrated.

Probably a sweet solution of powdered sugar mixed with water, then place in a nebulizer or even one of those “spa” face steamer or misters (I’ll try to share a link) then use a hood or a DIY hood with a hole in it to test your mask similarly to the real deal test kits

How do you find a brand (the ear loop type) kn95 by Byd that doesn’t allow you to exhale out the top by your eyes?

@@HeidiLovesNYC On our official New Zealand government website they acknowledge that kn95 masks have good filtration but they say they leak around the top so they say you should also use pantyhose or tape or cloth masks as well.

This stuff is terrible tbh I did my fitting today it looks easy but it is not. The chemicals they spray is strong and asthma patients have to be careful bc it can cause reaction. If you r claustrophobic take deeps breath and don’t think to much bc it will get worst if panic. If u did two testing and still don’t get the right size take a long break or do it another day. Tbh this test is cruel I don’t think anyone should have to go through this since other places do it much quicker.
