Gulzar shared a funny anecdote about Lata ji after her passing. She was producing a film which was being directed by Gulzar. And Gulzar said she was a bad producer because she was so extravagant. Everytime she would arrive on sets, she would bring gifts for everyone, from technicians to the actors and everyone in between. Gulzar was concerned and asked her to not be so generous.

Its already two days since she left us, but we still can't believe that she is no more..I literally felt goosebumps when she started singing... Lata ji is an emotion... It feels like a family member is gone... We all have grown up listening to her songs... She lived in every household through her voice... Ask any Indian singer... Most of them will say, they grew up listening to her, she has been their first guru, they took up singing because of her.. Indian music world has worshipped her like a goddess.. she is called Maa Saraswati. The legendary, Nightingale of India.... She is not gone... She was, is and will live on forever in our hearts.... Her life was full of struggles and her life was full of glory too!! When she was asked if she'd like to be reborn as Lata Mangeshkar, she said no, because the problems of Lata Mangeshkar were only known to her... She used to remove her footwear while singing because that itself was worship for her. She was a skilled photographer too. She supported her siblings after the death of their father when she was just 13. She contributed for Goa during its freedom, after the 83 world cup as well, she helped collect money for the players as BCCI wasn't that big at that time as it is today. She had a genuine interest in so many fields and always appreciated people from her heart. She never listened to her own songs because she said that she would find many mistakes in her singing!! So humble!! She learned urdu because Dilip Kumar once commented that being a Maharashtrian her urdu diction was incorrect.. Always took everything in a positive manner and as a learning opportunity. We lost our Saraswati on a day after Vasant Panchami(festival of the Goddess Saraswati). She will never be forgotten and will live for generations in her songs and in our hearts. A true legend, inspiration and our nightingale, the best!!! How lucky are we that we existed in the same time as her. Music won't be the same without her. In music history there will be a pre Lata and post Lata era.... Now, will always have a smile on my face but tears in my eyes whenever I'll listen to her songs😃😥

Very true. In fact those days the test players were paid just Rs 500/ match . By organizing few more events players like B.S.Chandra Shekar, Syed Kirmani, EAS Prasanna , VenkatRaghzvan ,B.S Bedi and few more were given Rs 1 crore each. Now look at their remuneration.

On the downside, she never let any other female playback singer blossom. It was just her and only her though historically India is known to have singers on every street. No one dared to compete against her. She didn't like it, She was like a monopoly, a mafia. (Followed by fellow maharastrians like Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar) For this reason India was mostly stuck with her voice for many decades when the west had so many singers to choose from. Which is also the reason the world was unaware of Indian music because there was no variety in our songs. Thankfully, these days anyone can go ahead on pure talent and voice texture.
@pracheeadoni7293
@pracheeadoni7293 2 года назад
@@edwardspencer9397 That's not true. She was the best and why would you settle for someone when you have the best. Also, you don't know the conditions in India at that time, women weren't allowed to work, there were a few female artists then, even the number of male singers wasn't that much. The music nd movie industry wasn't considered good that parents would let their children work there. Nd why are you targeting a specific community of people? Is it their fault that they're so good that no one can match up to them. They were the best and people were jealous or scared or whatever, can't be blamed on them. Infact they're the most down to earth people if you see. This is the sound of jealousy nd insecurity, that's it. Nd no song or cricket match can happen with just one person, it's a team effort.

I am not going to write Academy about anything. They should know it by themselves. If Academy doesn't include her in Memorium or doesn't give her Academy award then it's their loss. She is the legend. She doesn't require recognition from them. She is the Bharat Ratna. She is our pride. Indian govt announced two-day state mourning on her demise. It's 50 thousand or more songs in 36 languages.... That's some achievement in her 70 years of career... That's her professional career alone. She has been singing since she was 5 year old.... She will never be forgotten as longs as her songs live... Which will be forever.... And she lives in our hearts.... This song is apt coz just a few days before she took her last breath, the last thing she asked Asha Bhosale is, 'Will the world remember me always?' and when Asha ji answered that there can only be 1 Lata Mangeshkar and people will never forget you, she wept and that was the last conversation she ever had.... It's so painful.... Also if possible, please review a few of her Marathi and Bengali songs.... They are beautiful and soulful.

Guys, react to more songs of Lata ji like "wada na tod" (which was used in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind soundtrack), "tere bina zindagi se" & "ayega aanewaala" with subs.

Panchamda used to keep most of his classical based songs for Lata ji. Now...Lata didi may have reunited with Panchamda again and started making songs together in heaven.

On this occasion also take one more legendary creation in the repertory, a marathi language masterpiece....'Sunya Sunya Mehfileet Mazhya', a composition of the higher order and sing too of that calibre.

I tried to write something to express what she is to us, and realized that words literally fail to describe anything even close.

Would like to add my thoughts about the composition itself. The lyrics and the setting lend themselves to a warm incandescent tone that Lata Mangeshkar invoked right at the beginning, and the scale used to exactly represent this was based on Yaman Raag, which evokes a soft, warm mood of the early evening. As a foil to the bright vocals of Lataji, Bhupinder Singh had this calm and sombre tone. Hats off to R D Burman for bringing it all together brilliantly. Not to mention the simple yet poignant lyrics by Gulzar. As an aside- I am surprised that Rick and Korbin did not recognize Dharmendra (the clean shaven actor in the overcoat) in this song , who was first introduced to them in Sholay . The other actor is Jeetendra.

This song has always been my favorite. The song along with the visuals has a vibe that is so mellow and sad, especially when they show the birds flying and background flute kicks in.
