13 years later Nole winning another AO. And Tsonga losing first round Atp Marseille on Hard and Atp Lyon on clay. That 2 differents way to finish a journey
Tsonga needs good shrink to fix that shit in his head if that happens you can forget about Nadal,Djokovic and Murray,he posses ridicilous talent when he plays his best tennis nobody can beat him.
In France, we had three promising players Gasquet, Tsonga and Monfils. But, problem is: - Gasgay is a chocker and a pussy, with no mental strength and questionable fitness. - Monfils plays stupidly, stuck behind his baseline, when with his strength and speed, he could be a wonderful offensive player. - Tsonga, the most promising of all is always injured. There are countries like that who, even when given great talents still manage to keep on losing.
I never watched tennis on TV, and I accidentally stumbled upon this match while channel surfing. Since then I've been an avid tennis fan, and this is still probably the most exciting game I've ever watched.
Tsonga definitely deserves a better coach team...This guy is all about talent and power. His game is among the most entertaining and exciting games of current ATP players. I believe he could achieve way better than now if he has a wiser team.
Stop judging him, please. You really don't know him so who are you to criticize ? He's not "this air of how good i am". It's probably the best day in his carreer and he has the impression that nobody can beat him, it's a wonderful sensation. I think it's normal he's enjoying the match. What 'd you think if you were at the point of beating Rafa Nadal? Wouldn't you be proud of yourself ? I would. And remember, "la tchatche" is part of the game as we say in French ;)
Tsonga could be world No.1 if he could ever put some consistency into his game. He's got the most complete game in the world outside of maybe Federer. John McEnroe said it best during the Australian Open. He said something like Tsonga has a gear that when he goes to it, no one can go there with him. The problem is that he has trouble getting there himself. This is an example of a match when he was there. He's got the big forehand, the big serve, great speed and good net play. CONSISTENCY!
As fantasically as Tsonga hit the bal in this match I think that what he did best was move his feet and get himself in an offensive position. If you watch how aggressively and quickly he moves in this match compared to others you'll see a big difference. That's what allowed him to win against Nadal. That and being possessed by God.
Nadal got owned in this match, no doubt. But 4:20 is an example of his athleticism. The man FELL DOWN, lost his racket, picked it up, got back up, sprinted, and still almost made a play on that volley. Are you kidding me?! Sheesh.
I LOVE tsongas aura!! its a competetive sport so lets see some emotion!!! hate it when players dont show emotion - and ppl think it is showing respect - well: ITS BORING!! show some emotion good dammit!! stonefaces are boring!!
This was Tsonga's best match ever so far, no doubt. I also think this was the most frustrating match Rafael Nadal ever played. He's had a few worse defeats in the past, in terms of the score, but... definitely this one was very special, and i'm sure he's enjoyed taking little revenges in the 2 ocassions he's had to play the french man after that.
This is the match that made Tsonga my favorite player. Oh my god, if he could play like this consistently there's no doubt in my mind he'd be a top 3 player. BUT, he is injury-prone in his back, so his career, unfortunately, might be cut short. What an amazing player, nonetheless....
Just realized how Nadal likes to stay back a lot though he had lot of opportunities to be up at net. Tsonga played very well and had incredible volleys. He played out well making Nadal run(Which obviously makes Nadal more tired) and being up at net. Love the two but its good to have the under dog prevail :)
If Tsonga plays again like this he would still beat Nadal. He has a real advantage against Nadal, he is more powerfull, and stronger than him. His only problem is his inconstance, and Nadal is perfectly constant nowadays. This is what makes him number 1. But I still think Tsonga at his best can be a nightmare for him. Nobody did humiliate Nadal as Tsonga did in AO2008.
Well you forgot Simon. He is not the kind of guy easy to play against. Nadal knows it, and will certainly be carefull tomorrow. Nadal is favorite against Simon, but I'm not so sure of his victory. Whatever, on hard court and without injury (which is not the case actually but he is doing quite well with) Tsonga is better than Nadal. He is just too powerfull for him.
@iloveairfrance Where have you been the months XD Tsonga has beaten Federer twice, once at a masters and once at Wimbledon. He consistently beats top guys and is a top 10/top5 player for sure. He made the year end finals for the first time this year. I think the best in his career is yet to come. He was a huge upset in this and that's why people were excited. In France, people think maybe he could win a slam. That's why.
is far different from the rafa who won wimbledon, and even more so the rafa who won Canada, He changed alot after winning that 4th rd match against tsonga and IW, he gained all his confidence back and re-learnt how to be aggressive under pressure on fast courts, you can see the difference in his depth of shot and the way he whips if lower over the net so it has less air time... also Tsonga coulda beaten anyone this day, those volleys are better than the best doubles players.
The reality is, Rafa was an idiot and brought this on himself, I love rafa but he was stupid in the warmup he tried to impose himself he just ripped shots at Tsonga in the warm up to try and impose himself and then tsonga just looked at nadal like "wat are u doing" and he shot back in the warmup, after that rafa effectively helped tsonga shake off any nerves, tsonga just wanted his head, and you could see it in his eyes throught the match he just wante to kill rafa. Also the rafa at aus 08
He played like pete sampras in this match. I mean, search for pete and andre on youtube and watch the highlights and compare it to this one. Tsonga was keeping the points shot and playing a serious game similar to Pete sampras. I hope he looks at this video and tries to play this kind of tennis.
i remember this match. nadal said tsonga was lucky... completly wrong: tsonga played at a level never reached before. He was the perfect morphing of sampras, agassi and safin + his "boxer" behaviour. Shame he had some back injuries which didn't allow to perform as well in these last years. He has just won federer in wimbledon, he may does his come-back!
yeah tsonga got lucky, i wanna see him play this well again, ever. he hasnt matured enough to be playing consistent good tennis. and its tru that the big hard hitter usually do well against nadal cuz of how his balls sit up for them. but i think these days nadal knows how to play against the big people after losing to ppl like tsonga and del potro, and solderling.
foreverguga; to say that Nadal plays anti - tennis seems to me kind of a ridiculous statement. 6 GS in three diferent courts, a solid nº1 that usually is the winner against anyone on any surface... You are welcome to say that you, personally don´t like his style, but to say that he plays anti - tennis is to say that you don´t know shit about the sport. Regards
okay sure i completely agree, but to say that a player lost a match based solely on court surface is pretty ridiculous. court surface only matters so much,, as seen in the latest Wimbledon final. Tsonga deserves more credit than to say that the only reason he beat a world class player like nadal was because of court surface
please hassan0098.. the reason nadal lost was because tsonga was the better player at the time. tsonga wanted it more and showed it in his tennis. so now that nadal has beaten federer on grass is everyone gonna say that the reason federer lost was because it was on a grass court? of course not. players decide the fate of the match, the texture of the court does not
so easy to do!!! well, then please can you explain to me why it's rare to watch shots like this nowdays? How many players are able to make them? You see, these guys just beat the ball more hard and fast than they can!
Tsonga's playing style is the definition of beautiful tennis, not stupid ballbashing and moonballing 5 meters behind the baseline. Hopefully his current injury is the last one in his career so we can finally see him play a full season.
People have always come up with excuses why he or her or them haven´t won a slam. Injuries, atittude, nail ache, hair ache and whatever they want to say. The truth is, he isn´t that good when it comes to the moment of truth. And... hate his guts and that arrogant look. I-m even glad he hasn´t won shit!
This match was not luck it was a display of a true champion by Tsonga but he has been unable to maintain this level because he's been plagued by injuries. It is unfortunate because the guy has so much talent and athletic ability but one day he will win a grand slam.
The differences in Djokovic and Nadal's game shows against Tsonga. Nadal is more of a person who puts people off balance making it hard for people. And his whip of a forehand makes it easier for bigger people like Tsonga and puts it more into his hitting zone. Djokovic is more of a slogger person.
I couldn't say it better... I think Federer is too chicken... Nadal is a player who just plays in mono he doensn't have hd or even stereo. He has tremendous speed and stamina but that's not sufficiente. But who likes tennis and understands it knows it can be outplyed like this more often.
9:42 Maybe Rafa believed to have a good touch! Once again: you shouldn't make something like this if you are not able to make it!!!! Rafa, JUST BEAT THE BALL. It's better!!! believe me.
Before we know it Australia 09 will be long gone; Roland Garros will pass us by, then Wimbledon will be here once more. So take note, Roger. THAT is how you beat Nadal and take your sixth...equalling Pete's record of fourteen.
some crazy volleys from tsonga. i must admit, even federer can't do that in succession. but of course if you pit this tsonga against a 2006 federer, federer will beat him in 4 sets. federer will not give tsonga short paceless balls for him to hit at leisure.
2:06 Maybe Rafa believed to be Sampras ;-) You shouldn't make something like this if you are not able to make it! Rafa, just beat the ball...is better!!!! it's only what you can do.
Tsonga just won, because he was using a K-Blade 98! If he didn't use that racquet, with nice control, he wouldn't won... But with the AeroPro Drive (that he use it now) he would win more easily! I like both players
tsonga was unstopable in this match , he doesn't usually do these kind of shot like the perfect volleys and he use to do more mistakes with his backhand , but in this match he did all right
do you know how many injuries he has. He has a back injury, a knee injury and a shoulder one... He is one of the most exciting players i have ever seen, but he's always injured... even in junior category.
I was watching this vid and was thinkin wow nice quality, then I saw the HQ button and i thought "WAH!!??" BTW Good match...., but I want Federer to win his 1st roland garos
Tsonga's definitely not a fluke, but damn this match is pretty much a fluke with regards to the insane drop volleys he hit. I've really never seen anything like it from him since then
if u play against top 3s u alweys play the match of ur life or else u losse against them on this match tsonga did hes first history match for himself beating the top number 2.
She says "The player whose nickname is "Allez" I hope she's kidding because Allez means "go" in French, they call him "Jo" because his name is Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Yeh I agree totally! Love Tsonga, love his personality and his style of play. If only he could play like this regularly, he could be much better than Murray or Djokobitch!
I thiok this was Tsonga´s match o his hife. Everything he did was perfect. Nadal, although he tried hard, just didn´t know how to fight him, everyting he did was useless .
this such a 1 sided victory, tsonga doesnt even look like he is having a hard time beating nadal.just goes to how how much easier it is to win if youre relaxed and confident
if tsonga player nadal at the french nadal wud win by the same scoreline as this they just have gr8 contrasting styles and nadal played into tsonga's hands and he punished him and destroyed him but if he even did this on clay nadal wud just keep gettin the ball back and make incredible passes just sin his davis cup match with roddick and roddick played pritty well and lost 6-4 6-0 6-4 stay healthy tsonga
I know but when you play in slams the records or the head to heads don't count..!A perfect example right here..!Nadal was 3-0 against tsonga before this match..!
@nimaMaestro so? strange thing to point out... u know what? federer is better too... and djokovic ! and all the other players in the top of the rankings!
