Highly requested DIY overagarment/abaya which is a easy to make modest dress. I made this using a tee shirt dress pattern to make the sleeves super simple. Have fun with it and make it your own. Remember if I can do it sew can you!

I told my husband one day I want to try my hand at making my own over garments. It would be so much less expensive than buying them. this was so easy to follow. just need to invest in a sewing machine and a how to use it for dummies. lol

+Nadira037 that would be my goal. I'm trying to transition completely into over garments. The ones I have are either huge (wide) on me or too short. I'm 5'10" and need that extra length. one day. insha Allah.

As Salaam AIaikum. I tried to copy this exact outfit including the hijab colors using one of my T-shirts and scarves as I found the color combination to be quite attractive. I don't know how much bigger my T-shirt should have been to get the flow like I wanted but I could barely get mine on. I decided to put in 3 inch gussets in the sides with some of the remaining fabric so all was not lost. I'm wearing it today😊! love it! Thanks do much!

As Salaamu Alaiki wa Rahmahtulaahi wa Barakatu. Nadira I have taken a liking to the way that you use your t-shirt as a template guide for your clothing. however I'm confused on how much fabric I should purchase to make my own and how to measure out the width and length for my garment. I do have other garments that I could use as a template instead of using a t-shirt. I'm just a little confused.

It all depends on your size what she used looks like about 3 yards with material. Stretch material if you're using a t-shirt you have to give it at least 2 to 3 in Moore or the seem. Naked cologne if you take a yard stick from your hip speak out it will look like an a and you can cut it from there and you will have that flowing look.

I had such a hard time with this. I called my self cutting the garment width instead of length, like you said. I had two too big pieces. I am 5 feet 5 in. should I had cut the fold length or did I do right by cutting it width?

As salaamu alaikum, I really enjoyed this video, it was very helpful. I am a beginner with DIY Abayas and I wanted to ask is there a specific type of sewing machine that you need to make abayas? Do the sewing machine have to be really expensive with all the bells and whistles or can you just buy a Singer sewing for beginners?
