I need to tell you a story. I drive the big tour busses the bands ride in. I was driving Nahko from Bonnaroo to Red Rocks last year. On the way, I got into some construction out in Eastern Colorado. The speed limit dropped from 75 to 65...and I heard this singsong voice in my head: "Slow Down." I dropped to 55. I heard it again. I dropped to 45. I heard it again. I slowed all the way down to 25 mph...and then there was a hole in the road. Between the Jersey barriers, it couldn't be avoided. The bus slammed into it on the passenger side. It shook the whole bus and I had to fight to keep control of it going only 25 mph. At the next exit, I pulled over and the mud flaps were bent, the front bumper was damaged, but once I settled down and bent the flaps back out of the tires, we were on our way again. I shuddered to think of what might've happened had I been driving 65 mph and thanked my intuition for listening to that song in my head. I went to the show that night. I was told they were bringing in some serious medicine people and that a portal would be opened. When they played this song that night it was the same "Slow Down," I'd heard singing in my mind the night before. Although I'd never actually heard Nahko sing it before then, I had heard this song clearly while driving the sleeping band the night before. I sat on the steps at Red Rocks with my hands in my head and wept. I mean wept; maybe like I haven't ever done in my adult life. There is genuine power and magic in this music and in the people who create it. I've seen it firsthand.

I've been waiting for this one. One of the biggest themes in my life is learning how to slow down. I've always been praised for being quick with things, especially when I was younger. Quick learner, fast runner, can do any job with speed, etc. But the older I get the more I realize just how damn much the speed inhibits me. Yes, I can learn quick..but at the cost of understanding deeply many times. Yes I can run fast, but without the ability to pace myself over distance..etc. I even feel like my heart beats too fast. Moving so fast truly takes a toll on both my physical and mental health. When I am able to slow down and be completely intentional with things, my mind instantly responds very positively. Devil sticks are a great example. (one of my flow toys) When I get moving real fast with my sticks, balance becomes increasingly difficult. The quicker they spin, the harder it is. I can get into a state of being where I'm able to slow myself down and make more intentional moves with them which gives me a lot more control and balance. My body, mind and spirit is no different, I feel.

Nahko and MFTP you guys rock so hard. I saw this for the first time at Red Rocks and it was amazing love filled experience. Now you release it and it’s become one of my favorites. I will never forget that night and this song with Auntie Pua dancing and pushing the clouds back from the full moon was magical. Thank you so much! Much love to you all guys!

This whole album makes me bawl my eyes out. I lost my girlfriend in February and a lot of these songs really make me miss her and wish I could have been a better person for her with the time I had. This song makes me think about life and how inevitably we all shall pass. Parents, siblings, friends and loved ones. I don’t think I’m ready for anymore loss. Also to slow down my own bad habits less I leave this life early myself.

At first I thought I wasn't that into this song, but then I realized I needed to slow down. Slow down and appreciate the message, appreciate the melody - hear, see, and feel the words. This song is actually perfect, especially the timing. Winter is a time of inner reflection, it's a time to slow down and rest our weary heads - but also to face any inner demons we may be struggling with or that we may have pushed to the side in the hustle and bustle of the summer months. This song fits for all occasions and seasons, but I thought this was especially pertinent in this time of our cosmic lives. We are witnessing a rebirth - a new cycle. I for one would am going to try and start this cycle of slow and steady. The line that really pulled on my heart strings was, "...but I'm struggling, coping with all of it to hell with enlightenment clearly, I am no good at this. Who's even listening?" I felt that so deeply. Like I try and become a better version of myself all the time and fail all the time, and I wonder does anyone see me...does anyone hear me? I think so many people relate to this. Thank you, for always giving us the medicine we need in the way we need to hear it - even if at first we don't catch on right away... your message sinks in. Alright Nahko! I was just hoping earlier today that you would release a new song. The spirit guides. I wonder, did I hope because you would post this (implying knowledge of the future i didn't know I knew), or did you release this, because I hoped (implying my faith made you act, but, this song must have been in the works, before I hoped, so who's to say what the driving force truely was) I just credit it to God, then even things that are impossible coincidences of synchronicity that make no rationale sense, are simply things to be thankful to God for, without having to dwell on how mysterious it all is. I suppose corralation doesnt mean causation, but that is only seemingly true if it wasnt a regular occurence for me to hope, and then have my hope fulfilled rather quickly (not every time, but enough to know Gods certainly listening). It could even imply, that if it is God that causes such things to happen (i believe it is) then my hope, which happens after the thing has already begun,but before my awareness of it, is just part of what God is doing, meaning even the things that seem personal to me, like my thoughts and Hope's, are Gods doings in a way. This could call to question our free will, but I rather think, God is too great for me to compare my own perspective in time, space, thought, and perception to. I feel like I have free will. Even though God knows my thoughts, actions, and Hope's before i ever act, it doesnt take away from Gods generosity that i have them. So thank God of course. And thank you, it's a good song brother, as usual.
