Its formal name is onychomycosis and tinea unguium and it affects the skin around and under your nails along with the nail plate. Nail Fungus infection most commonly occurs in toenails and usually appears as discolouration and thickening of the nail, and crumbling edges.
Fungal nail infections can be difficult to treat and if home remedies as well as over-the-counter medicines like oral antifungal medications and topical ointments are not proving to be effective then you should definitely consult your doctor at the earliest. Otherwise the condition can become severe over time and it will take a long time to see positive results.
