I just saw this video after watching the one on shaving cream and you left this link. I'm so glad you did! I have a bag of nail polish that I don't use but didn't want to throw out. I tried painting with them but it's time consuming and the fumes get overpowering. This video is the answer I need. Thanks so much.

Nina, this is so much fun. If I get a paper with not much coverage, I'm using a biggish water container so the polish spreads, I dab the water off them and then re-marble them with the next colours I'm using. I get some interesting outcomes. Thanks for a morning of great fun today.

Hi Nina, great idea. I've never seen this before. Will give it a try as soon as I'm done making back grounds (I can't seem to get enough of that!) The blades of your punch might be blunt, If you take 3 or 4 layers of the thin foil and punch through that it would sharpen the blade of the punch and it should not get stuck again. Or spray the tiniest amount of Silicone spray (not the oil one - SILICONE) onto the blade and then work the punch a bit without paper and then punch a few samples - if it makes a stain just keep punching scraps until the stain has been absorbed by the paper. But first try the foil. You can sharpen the blades of all your punches like this - even scissors with uneven blades. But it must be the very thin foil. Good luck. xx
@NinaRibenaMixedMedia
@NinaRibenaMixedMedia 6 лет назад
Thanks for the tips Santa. I think something must have broken inside the punch. I tried all sorted, foil, silicone etc.. and had to bin it and buy a new one. Hey ho!

Gorgeous!! Now I wish I wouldn't have given away a boat load of nail polish I no longer used! I know it's years later however, if you haven't fixed the heart punch, try punching out on wax paper a few times and see if that helps it glide back and forth. :)

Elizabeth Naisbitt Hee hee. I agree nail varnish/polish is wasted on nails. And anyway your nails need to breathe. I once painted some tiny jam jars with nail varnish and a cocktail stick (tooth pick in America). Nina's results were awesome

I don't have much stash of nail polish but will give it a try to see what I come up with. I think these would be lovely with many other shapes as well. On your punch I'd cut it with multiple layers of waxed paper. If that doesn't work try cutting with layers of aluminum foil which will also Sharpen the blade and u can use these cuttings as embellishments.

Did you see my hand of friendship sent to Dee at the beginning of the month? It was made using nail varnish and I suggested Dee have a go. You need an open area because of the smell. I love this idea I have been "spring cleaning" and have come across a ton of nail polishes I too don't use them a lot this is going to be fun I almost threw them away but being a crafty person I have a problem throwing away anything so glad I don't thanks for sharing I'm going to give it a try oh sorry do you have to put in nail polish remover??? god bless

+yvonne neer Make sure you have your windows open as its a bit whiffy! You don't need the polish remover, but I do think it gives you a few extra seconds to play with as the polish dries quickly so you have to work fast. Have fun! 😊

Thanks for your tip Illona. I think something has got dislodged inside the mechanism as no joy I'm afraid :(

Small scale is wise. I did this previously with my dghtr and needed much VENTILATION. But we were doing book marks and 4x5 pieces of paper so house smelled for days. I ended up sealing paper in plastic bag or container. But again we had really hone to town with it.

This is a neat technique. I wonder if it would work with inks or high flow liquid paints! Tfs Nina

I have tried it with inks and watered down acrylics, but they just sink to the bottom of the water. It works if you add baby oil to the paint, but then the paper becomes translucent and of course the oil spreads to any other paper its in contact with. I picked some enamel paint up from the Scrapstore yesterday as I thought that might work. I'll keep you posted!

Try WD40. Just spray some in there and it should loosen up the mechanism (use the little straw to get it as close as possible).
