Gawd what a lame answer from the company trying to sell you their product 🙄 I’ll answer the question they did not. I know the question is super old but maybe you’ll see it. It’s called that bc it’s flexible like rubber - unlike a builder gel or any other structure building product. That’s what makes a rubber base or top coat unique - it bends and moves with the nail. This is esp desired when coating a natural nail without tips, esp one that’s thin and/or flexible. Otherwise you have a tendency to get lifting or manicures don’t last as long. Rubber vases and top coats allow structure building and strengthening of natural nail while allowing flexibility, esp great if wanting to grow them out but need the extra strength to do that. I use a rubber base, a peel off layer so I can change manicures more frequently bc I like to, and then do normal gel mani from there. I rarely if ever remove all the way down to my natural nail. I almost always leave at least SOME rubber base behind to strengthen my v v thin fragile nails. I don’t like the feeling of tips. That’s just me.
PPS you rarely need both in my opinion. Just opinion though. Depends on how much reinforcement you want. Or, if you like the look of a thicker nail that’s a benefit too. If one had very long nails I would think building the apex in this way would be a big benefit but mine never get crazy long with maybe 1/2” of white area past finger tip at most. For that, rubber base has proved sufficient for my needs and nails but everyone is different of course.
I’m sure Born Pretty won’t ever answer this since they don’t make a magical remover (that I’m aware of). But yes, I’ve used rubber top and base coats and magical removers took them off just fine as long as you file the top coat first just like a normal top coat. It just has to soak a little longer/might take an extra application bc it’s so much thicker. The great thing about a rubber top or base coat they don’t address - that’s superior to a builder gel - is that it’s FLEXIBLE. So esp if you are costing your natural nails and they are thin or have movement to them at all, the rubber coat does a much better job of adhering without lifting while providing strength and structure to the natural nail allowing it to grow out. I’m a big fan.
