They didn't mention it, but AV youtubers all talk about the Samsungs bad Back and Height sound quality and issues with the back speakers not activating correctly for Atmos.
I purchased the Nakamichi 9.2.4 earlier this spring, I can honestly say I am very pleased with this sound bar. It is very good with movies, games, and music; I highly recommend this!!
I previously had the Samsung and currently have the Nakamichi. I definitely feel that the Nakamichi is much more immersive for your home theater setup and you get 2 subwoofers but I also wanted to mention that they keep saying the Samsung speakers are wireless but you still have to plug them into electricity outlet which means actually they are not wireless and they have a large wire where as the nakamichi you do not have a large wire but a wire the size of smaller than a bread tie width that you can literally tuck between the carpet and the wall or hide it anywhere it is very small and descriet.
@@brianmcalinden4481 I think the Nachamichi and Samsung are a out same on vocals. Nacha might be a bit better. But, its def better with its surround sound.
But still it's wire, purpose is defeated! 7 years ago Philips fidelity launched true wireless soundbar a two rear which could be detached and no power needed.
Bought both and decided to keep the Nakamichi. Ryan's review is spot on, the surround on the 9.2 is much more theater like and is better than the Samsung.
Make it a delivery, it's a very nice soundbar system, I have Sony HT-ST5000 as well, the Sony is very nice, it reproduces sound behind you well but Nakamichi 7.2.4 gives you more, dedicated rears, extra subwoofer, I definitely recommend Nakamichi
Bought the Nakamichi during Cyber Monday for $500 less then the Samsung. I consider bought a tie on sound and features. Deal breaker is the price. Love the sound on mine. Very powerful!!💪
@@jackiejack4139 No way is this better than Klipsch Speakers setup my Klipsch 3.1 Setup is better than this With a RP-504c and two RP-600M Bookshelf Speakers and a Klipsch R-112SW Subwoofer being powered by a Yamaha RX-A2080 AV Receiver
I get the Nakamichi 9.2.4 last November and I'm very happy with this I'm really love the sound quality for tv, movies, games and music is very nice Systems and the both subwoofers make the difference....
The followings are some of the cons with the 7.2.4 system after 2 weeks of usage: 1. The system is present to turn on at volume 45, need to load patch to fix. 2. The sound system logic is very basic, nothing compares to a full fledge sound amplifier that provide much much more audio detail. This system lacks any directional audio detail. 3. You can bearly hear anything out of the rear speakers, they are only ON about 5% of the time. 4. The sound producted from the system is just loud with very very minimal surround sound detail. 2d audio vs 3d audio 5. The connection wire for the rear speakers are very thin, it's about 3mm thick. I guess it doesn't matter because no audio comes out of it anyway. 6. The speaker setting display is on the center soundbar behind a grill, display in pixel led. You will not be able to see the display if you are more than 5-8ft away. For the price they couldn't create an on screen display? 7. The Audio sounds like you are in a tunnel, I guess thats what they think 5.1 should sound like. 8. The speaker will sometime pop as you traverse through Netflix selections. 9. There is a 5 second delay in Netflix after a selection before sound comes out of the speakers. 10. The solution for the slow processing speed of the volume control is to have the volume selection slip every other number. So, the volume control is only usable by 2 digit increments. 2, 4, 6, 8, etc. So if u think 7 is just right too bad that is not available. 11. The inwall screw anchor is one size too large. There is a great chance the screws could pop out. You should insert an additional anchor into the one provided. 12. The sound level fluctuates.
Nakamichi FTW!!! The dual subwoofers are definitely so much better and powerful, plus 4 rear speakers... the price to performance ratio is impeccable! Till date it's still working perfectly and I've used it for multiple movies / streaming and replaying console games. Awesome to be reliving Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Every now and then this soundbar is still blowing me out of the waters!
@@parallelsmoke7800 I played it on my PS4, setting to output Bitstream Dolby but i believe it should be 5.1 audio. Then again the whole sound was upmixed to 9.2 so it was very immersive.
I have the Nakamichi 7.2 and it is probably the best decision I have ever made so far! No other systems come close to the ones by Nakamichi.Them being niche guarantees a well thought out product that's built to last!!!
Very well done comparison review! I purchased the Elite 7.2.4 for my LG C9 because I just didn’t feel it was right using a Samsung with LG jk! One correction on the review! The satellites have 3 options for setup rather than two. So it offers even more options for room setup, besides a vertical and horizontal setup it has a higher angle option! I am very pleased with the Nakamachi purchase!
Michael Jordan my opinion is bias but I am gonna give you the real reason to go with 7.2.4. One guy who’s opinion I respect told me the difference in having two subwoofers. With one sub the brain starts to detect where the bass is coming from. With two subwoofer it fills the entire room and the bass is much more submersive! Go with Nakamichi you won’t regret it! I have had mine about a year and still love what it offers.

If you have a samsung TV with a samsung soundbar you'll get access to an equalizer, other than that the Nakamichi is a great sound system, I reviewed the 7.2.4 Elite Shockwafe and I love it.
I just like that the price isn’t a factor by 2 sound bars in the same class. Price always change a lot. Samsung has always cashback and special offers on blackFriday etc do why should price be a factor? This review will still be great after time passes coz the prize changes but performance stay the same.
@@michaelvanheerde4384 well. if the samsung goes on sale from $1900 msrp to $1600, then the nakamichi can go on sale from $1400 msrp to.. 1100? In theory- that's still far cheaper no matter what way you slice it
@@daftnord4957 When I posted this I could get the Samsung for almost the same prize as the Nakamichi. They are not always on sale at the same time and Samsung had a cash back from the start. So i mean the prize isn’t a stable factor but the quality is.
I got my Shockwafe 9.2 last week and when I fired it up, I wasn't too impressed. But after reading in the manual the settings I had to make in my XBOX One X, that changed. And wow did it change. You have to set the XBox to pass through the audio, and set it to Dolby Atmos or you'll never get the effects. I put on "Ready Player One" and the sounds were coming from everywhere. I have the rears on their side, and the surrounds up straight. Seems to work the best for my situation.
I got the Q90 to go with the TV. So naturally I’m going with Samsung. It depends on the source. Comcast will give you okay sound for example. I turn on my Xbox one x with 2.1 HDMI and atmos it’s just wow. Home theater indeed.
This, I don't even use Comcast cable anymore because the 4k channels etc were not what they claim. After watching strictly hd for so long you know what's what.
I really want that nakamichi. Those two subwoofers and four surrounds just looks amazing! I'd probably have to wait untill my next lifetime to be able to afford one.
Considering our limited opportunities for spending money during these Covid lockdowns many should be able to find the extra few hundred to make the purchase. In view of the amount of time we spend viewing TV each year then a dream sound system is a wise investment. Greetings from James J in Limerick city Ireland
Hi i am Rayan suliman from KSA. I have searched abut the past sound bar for a month . And i have to tell you something Nakamichi is the best one so far. A combination of Japanese and American invention a simpled in China. Is truly Amazing.
I am probably going to purchase the Samsung. I have the Samsung Q90R TV and this soundbar is designed for QLED TV's. Also, you mentioned the better sound for the Samsung for Dialog and speech, which is what we are looking for. We currently have a low price Samsung soundbar that works better than the TV's built in speakers but we both have trouble sometimes with hearing dialog, especially with sources that play loud background music! We hate that! My wife and I would love it if the directors would not play the background music! We don't need music to set our mood and feelings, we can do that ourselves! We would rather have no music and hear the speech better!
Thank you for the very detailed review of these two high end sound bars. I purchased the Nakamichi Ultra 9.2.4 system to serve primarily as a surround sound system. I will let you know by update how it sounds in my room after playing with the digital settings and the speaker layout.
Had both soundbar. Personally experience the Samsung Harman Q90R still the best. All balance soundbar, Immersive surround sound with clear voice and best Atmos experience that can move my ears. Unbeatable best technical support after sales. Latest updated firmware that support eARC, value added with more capabilities feature added to soundbar. Value for money👍🏻.
"If you're looking for a truly impressive 360 immersion experience with lots of connectivity, Nakamichi is the way to go!" Yes. Exactly! The Nakamichi is truly the better overall soundbar especially if you want a TRULY immersive, surround sound, ATMOS experience. Yes, who wouldn't? "but, you'll need to adjust the settings so it sounds right in your set up." ?? Well, yeah...of course. That's not a negative though. That's just...a given...for ANY system really. As for the remote, yeah, the Nakamichi is more like a receiver remote specifically because it's a much more configurable system. Nothing against the Samsung, I actually considered that at one point. But, if you're a home theater purist who wants a soundbar and for whatever reason, are not going with a receiver and full speaker set up, the Nakamichi is hands down the better way to go.
Love the system. Only had for a week. Still figuring out the best settings and placement. I do get an occasional distortion and have to stop and re start movie
I have the Nakamichi 9.2.4 - it's a beast and the theatre experience is absolutely immersive, but I'm not impressed with the low-frequency bass response. I'm going to try HW-Q90R for it's better low-frequency response, ease of set up and synergy with the Samsung Q80 TV and decide which one to keep!
Well well, I was initially skeptical but I totally concur with the review and rating! While Nakamichi is more punchy, it was clearly missing the low-frequency bass that HW-Q90R catches! After going through multiple audio samples for our day to day use case, with utmost difficulty we chose Samsung for the following reasons - easy to set up, less hassle with fewer wires running around the house, sound quality over quantity and most importantly because of one of our local stores giving us the Samsung HW-Q90R for $899 :D
I agree. I had the same system and just upgraded to a full 5.1.2 higher end surround setup. The nakamichi was great for the price but that remote was not very user friendly.
I Have Yamaha YSP5600 which came with ARC only and I connected it with LG CX, I get full lossless Atmos from TV and Xbox Series X. Atmos sound can be transmitted over arc from eARC TV
Thanks for great comparisons! Need feedback from everyone on how they have their 4 surround sound speakers setup (horizontally or vertically) since I recently decided on Naka 9.2.4 and have been really happy with it! Thx in advance!
I have the 7.2 system! I had my surround speakers first placed vertically at an angle but have since changed. my suggestion would be to play around with how you would like to receive your sounds. it is a very trial and error thing since everyone's ears are different
I brought this sound bar due to the high reviews it got. After using it I would say the reviews are way overly positive. Either everyone has very low expectations or they have never heard a quality system. I guess if u are going from an ipod to this this is a great system. But if you have something to compare this system (like Bose) with than there are a lot of shortcomings that does not demand this price. The followings are some of the issues I found with the Nakamichi 7.2.4 system after 2 weeks of usage: 1. The system is present to turn on at volume 45, need to load patch to fix. 2. The sound system logic is very basic, nothing compares to a full fledge sound amplifier that provide much much more audio detail. This system lacks any directional audio detail. 3. There is a 5 second delay in Netflix after a selection before sound comes out of the speakers. 10. The solution for the slow processing speed for the volume control is to have the volume selection slip every other number. So, the volume control is only usable by 2 digit increments. 2, 4, 6, 8, etc. So if u think 7 is just right too bad that is not available. Super dumb! 11. The inwall screw anchor is one size too large. There is a great chance the screws could pop out. You should insert an additional anchor into the one provided. 12. The sound level fluctuates. 13. The HDMI cables that came with it are garbage. For a grand, I would think they could spend $10 bucks for a better cable. I guess milk you once since they know you won't buy again. Smart business. 14. The location of the HDMI plugs are brainless. This is a sound bar that will be mounted on the wall below the TV. But the placement of the HDMI plugs are at the back of the unit not even facing up. Little thought was put in to design this system. I just did all the work for them on version 3.0 for free. Overall, this system didn't meet my expectation and the brand quality of Nikamichi. Will come back if I find anything else. Please give me a thumbs up if this was helpful. Update (April 2021) - These speakers are garbage. I just can't express how much I hate these speaker. Over price junk. It has so much problems that it should be considered Beta speakers. Today the soundbar just started to automatically turnoff every 20 mins. I guess it because it decided to put itself on standby mode. I spent 2 hours and still cant find out how to turn that off. JUNK! (JAN2022) - I had to come back here to provide another update. I thought I could get use to the system after some time. But one can never get use to garbage because it just get more disgusting over time. This sound bar is beyond the ability to describe. If you pay over $200 for this system you are over paying. That is why you see so many people trying to dump this garbage. I surprised there is a class action lawsuit for the grief this system cause! Please save yourself the agony and buy something else.
Awesome review! I have a Samsung Q80R tv so I lay end up with the HWQ90R. Could you guys compare the Samsung HWQ90R with the Bose 700 sound system? Thanks!
www.helpdesk.nakamichi-usa.com/plug-and-play-matching-tool Nakamichi has a whole setup tool with info on how to connect for various devices and the settings to use. etc. Generally speaking from my understanding, arc for your certain devices its best to get the full uncompressed audio by having it directly plugged into the soundbar. e.g., 4k Blueray player. Keep in mind, netflix and other streaming services generally compress the sound so that benefit of eArc and that setup is somewhat negated if that's what you mainly view. For Nakamichi, I tested with the matching tool various devices, Xbox, apple tv, blueray player etc., and since they have the available connections, always put my preferred devices directly to the soundbar, with less used devices plugged to the tv directly once the connections ran out. This may change once they have eArc, however, based on their website it sounds like they have no plans to upgrade this model with eArc anytime soon due, in part, to the reasons mentioned above.
I am looking at these because I want to avoid wires (power I have but the audio wires are a pain). The problem is - I want to use a projector which puts the sound source behind the viewer. The projector will have a blueray and an apple tv as the two sources. Is there a solution to that? Do wireless hdmi connections work?
Really wonder how the Shockwafe 9.2 eARC (Nakamichi's 2022 release) sounds like vs the SSE that is covered in this video. It adds eARC (FINALLY) and supposedly has better speaker drivers and amps! The frequency response is down to 20hz. I've voted for the soundbar to be reviewed in Rtings "Suggest a soundbar" page - hope Rtings gets to reviewing this soon. Audio performance is #1 to me - everything else is secondary.
Had Samsung and was not impressed....took it back got the nakamichi and have never been more happy. It give me sound similar to having a avr and components but with a much smaller profile....cant speak highly enough about this underrated system

The 2 subs on the unit are the main things you notice but they really make you feel the movies. Hope I helped.
@@randymullins5525 Thank you. Just don't know what to do with the situation of both Nakamichi systems. Both have pros and cons. I looked at the Sonos arc soundbar after your suggestion and it may be something I'd consider. I'd have to build the system piece by piece though but at least there is the option. Gonna have to see if best buy has some soundbars setup to listen to locally. Last questions. Does the Nakamichi immerse you in the movie? Is it an awesome experience? Is it comparable to a full system? Does the Atmos effect really sound overhead, is it convincing? Thanks again for your help and the info.
I just had the nakamichi and the surround speakers for mine were terrible and I CONSTANTLY had to mess with the settings just to get a decent sound during a movie, tv show and music. This was the second soundbar I've been through with no satisfaction so im about at my wits end. I'm not a genius but I'm no idiot to technology or audio so idk.
Just bought the Q90r and this is my personal very average joe review. Think of it as my opinion nothing more lol Pros : The sound bar(technically the main component) is a masterpiece. Literally have nothing bad to say the piece sounds good at low volumes and great at high as well. Cons : The rear speakers are very weak/low. The main sub is also very weak/low. As in weak it doesn’t get as loud as I would like it to. Even with the sound turned up all the way it’s not really that dynamic(yes I turned it up to the max to test it out) Doesn’t really have a wow feeling even though it’s the “flagship” sound bar of Samsung.
Thanks for providing such great information. I follow you RU-vid channel and enjoy it. I have a request is it possible to compare the Sony HT-ST5000 with the New Sonos ARC systems? (Atmos) I look forward to your answers.
Bought the Q90R a month ago and I’m very happy with it. I wanted the Nakamichi for the dual subs but I like the easy setup of Samsung. Specially since I have a Qled tv. If any cons is that rear speakers should be a bit louder.

Excellent, a section that I want to see, when I wanted to buy my soundbar, I didn't find anything in the channel, I terminated buying the Sony htz9f with rear speakers, but I thought in st5000 too, I hope you can make a review to the st5000, because Sony haven't updated the model, so I think that is a soundbar top today, thanks.
Awesome! I always looked at Nakamichi stuff with keen interest, and they are still going strong. Rest in Power Etsuro Nakamichi. Your dream is still going strong 💪🏿 #JapanInnovation💯
You didn’t mention price. I know prices can change, but you can still say what the prices were at the time of testing. You can then say which you thought was the best bang for your buck and which is the best when money is no object.
I have both of these and the sound is not that close. Also, be aware that the Samsung’s subwoofer drops out randomly and frequently. It’s a know. Issue that has not been fixed. I have the issue and it is a horrible problem. Sort of makes it a waste of money for such a high end system. FYI, the Nakamichi does not have that issue
What Hi-Fi destroyed LgSn11 RG soundbar , what 's up with that . Is it accurate enough.i was about to but this LG soundbar after listening your review. Please advice. @t
No eARC Samsung Q90R?? I believe there is! I am using it. My Soundbar is connected to my eARC 2.1 HDMI Port on the LG C9. If there were no eARC i would not be able to hear Atmos from the TV Netflix App.
Incorrect. You are streaming compressed Atmos from Netflix, which works fine with ARC. The only source that provides an uncompressed Atmos signal is a Blu-ray player, to stream this to the TV and then to the bar requires eARC.
The Shockwafe does not have HDMI 2.1 and as a result I cancelled my order. The Q90R does have HDMI 2.1 and supports eARC (recent firmware update) and thus is near-future proof.
One thing not touched on this review is Customer Service. Nakamichi's customer service is incredible. They continue to update their products even after you've purchased it and if you ever have any issues they will call you. Best customer service I have ever had on any piece of technology.
thought of getting the nakamichi to then sell my 5.1.4 av receiver + speakers. should i? or just keep to later expand. that 9.2.4 is so tempting and way more expensive if i were to go on the av receiver route+speakers route.
OMG no I've owned the shockwave 7.2 and just sold my 9.2 to go to 5.1.2 and an AVR smokes it . Plus you can get say an RSL 5.1 for under 1000 add a Denon 4300 that's the price of the shockwave . Just upgrade your current setup if needed.
I separated all the surround and atmos speakers with boston acoustics xs speakers. Truly a fuller immersion then before. I used small amps to power the separates. I also separated the front side, wides. And small amped them. Amazed at the difference. The 9.2.4 experience is best.
kev ersatz he is wrong. The e arc is already available. When I turn of e arc on my tv the sound is much worse than when I turn e arc on. I have lg e9 with Samsung q90r
@@nothimagaaain I have a C9 and the Q90R and I don't think he's wrong unfortunately, I know what you're saying but I don't think that's scientifically the accurate answer. Only way to really know if it was working properly would be to connect an ATMOS capable device (like a UHD Bluray player) to the TV and then see if Dolby TrueHD is coming through the ARC. I don't think it does, hence why he says it's not available.
I just got this last month. It's amazing and no regrets! I demoed the Samsung in the store and it's really impressive but was considerably more expensive then the Nak.
RTINGS Can we have an updated vs? Nakamichi Shockwafe Ultra 9.2 eARC vs SAMSUNG Q990D. These have both been tested individually by RTINGS, no vs. Another good Soundbar not tested by RTINGS is CREATIVE SXFI CARRIER. I bought the SXFI CARRIER and then bought the Q990D and when I heard the difference I sent the SXFI back to CREATIVE. The SXFI Sounds Good, except True Surrounds beats Virtual Surround.
Nakamichi states the Shockwafe's frequency response is 30hz - 22khz. What this means is that either the testing was done on this video incorrectly or Nakamichi has been fudging the numbers.
don't think so. I battled between both samsung and nakamichi for awhile. other than the dual subs that won, the support versatility of the Naka makes it A WHOLE LOT easier in the long run. from what I understand, samsung makes their products ALMOST exclusive to the other "parts" from their brand. that to me, in the long run, makes it difficult to try out different TVs, players etc, without going through a headache!
3:08 I wish someone would make a video on this, but does using ARC have any other limitations or are there any other disadvantages to using it in respect to getting the highest audio quality?
Basically what they said wraps it up; regular ARC (as opposed to eARC) has a bandwidth cap so it doesn't support uncompressed surround audio. In addition, I've seen some people complain that ARC connection can lead to lip-sync issues between the video and audio. Generally though, it's a good option. If you can use an HDMI in port for something like a blu ray which can send uncompressed audio, that would be better, but since streaming apps are compressed, for internet media there shouldn't be a noticeable difference between HDMI IN and HDMI ARC.
Yeah, I feel like at this point with a 9.2.4 "SoundBar" anything that doesn't have a receiver is called a soundbar. So... guess the bose system in my car is a soundbar... :-) Can't wait to see the review...
@@jackiejack4139 yes, you dont really need eArc unless you are solely speaking of just using the apps on the tv and if the tv even has Dolby atmos. Any other equipment like 4k Blu-ray player etc would just plug into any hdmi port on the back of the bar and get the best quality!
I was really surprised with the poor customer service from Nakamichi. I was VERY disappointed they removed my negative feedback on Ebay. It's flat out unethical for them to present themselves with "100 pct positive feed back" They sent me a broken unit, then the wrong part, didn't know what state I'm in, and did a poor job communicating with UPS when the package was late. I spent hours trouble shooting things that were not my fault;I specifically bought this system for ease of set up. Then they wouldn't let me return it without the box, and even if I did have it, they wanted to charge me shipping.
I agree I'm modifying my nakamichis all the time. Sometimes I fuck up and have to start from scratch but for the most part im putting all kinds of configurations up in my basement. Just the other day i swear i heard Naka say....please stop touching me....just let me make your ears nut so i can go into standby.
I second that good sir. I actually record, write play music n shit, and i typically scoff at home theatre packages of today and how they get away with charging insane prices for mediocre (at best lol) speakers/drivers, when you could spend less money and get some solid powered FRFR's, a decent powered sub, reciever/amp, cables, adapters (if need be) entirely of your choosing. Kinda ridiculous how most marketable things in the world, are all centered around peoples laziness and unwillingness to invest some time/thinking into anything. I strongly recommend some Yamaha HS-8's...well any of the HS series from Yamaha really. Theyre outstanding, no pre-colored bullshit out of the box. JBL has some decent near-field products as well. Cheers friends, hope everyone has a great day today
