It's rare for a grandmaster not to see a move coming, but I doubt that GM Krasenkow saw Hikaru Nakamura's 21st move coming. With this bolt from the blue, Nakamura launched one of the finest kings of the 2000s.
Lessons:
* Always consider all forcing moves: checks and captures.
* Cover the flight squares when hunting kings.

Even if he plays it he still gets mated, naka's position is just too strong and there's nothing krasenkow can do to stop the threats of mate

How about pawn to g4 defense?

You can actually escape this mating net, at least I’m pretty sure. Correct me if I’m wrong, but when white played Kh5, what if he went Kh4? If played tried the same idea with f6, then doesn’t white just play Bd5 and after Kh8 White just played Kh3, and hides on g2? I may be wrong, though.

I think the trouble with that is that black wouldn't play f6, they would play Be7+ and then regardless of whether white moves Kh3 or Kh5, black can play Rh6+ with mate to follow after the queen blocks

9:10 ...... after bishop to c8 white could play pawn to g4 to secure from roook coming at h file ? what am i missing here ? anybody ?
@ferdyanggriawan9927
@ferdyanggriawan9927 3 года назад
if he do that, then another bishop can play to f2 then play rook from f6 to h7.

Sam, may I suggest not opening the video (and having the preview image) showing the "critical move"? Kinda takes away some of the suspense and reason for watching the videos...

Why not move white bishop for white to f3 to protect the h5 square? I mean you could then exchange your bishop and queen for 2 rooks. And would have a rook and horse in late game vs two bishops.. I am no Gm and I really don't think I am better than Krasenkow.. I am just wondering ^^'

After pawn to f6 by Hikaru, Krasenkow could have played Bd5+, will it not give white the chance to get out of mate since it will also give a open square at g2???

That’s what I was thinking. Then it’s a draw. But I like to think that it’s all forcing.
