I’ve been watching Morten for about 3 years now and just wanted to say you’re great and I love this channel. I wish you all the best from Maryland USA!
Morton - 83 degrees is that cards max temp - the card is thermal throttling and the "perfCap reason" - Shows "thrm" - The card is slowing itself down trying to save itself.... Other than that another great video!!!!!
Hi Tom Chambers Thank You very much! where did you find that info? I found someone saying to just keep it under 95C and it would be fine... Thank you for watching! :-)
That GPU is thermal throttling, you can see it dropped GPU core clock from ~1800 to ~1600 as it settled on 82-83C, don't think it's a good scenario for it... Maybe if you put a couple of fans back on...
Hello, I realize this was 2 years ago but I will try anyway. Could you tell me which Power cable you are using for the GPU? I've bought a number and still cant get the right one to get a GPU into my Lenovo X3650 M5.
Morten, the fans are there for a (good) reason. Without them you run the risk of your entire data center, and in fact your entire house, catching fire. Is getting your server to run a bit faster worth this risk?
All hardware like this has built-in temperature monitoring. When it starts getting hot it will slow down to try to keep from overheating. If it keeps getting hotter it will shut down completely to prevent damage.
Hi. Can u please assist. Green light just flashes ..when i press it nothing happens. Also when i put power to it. The power supplies run for 2 seconds and switch off
Hi Morten , try making some baffles underneath the card to scoop the air upwards into the baffles near to gpu and see if it makes a difference to temps.
Feels much better after seeing 82c under load, I thought 38c was getting too toasty... Morten, that card is at it's thermal limit, it's not being cooled by the server air flow enough, time to re-think the 1070ti usage before the card burns out my friend....
I wonder why the fins were like that? I have a zotac 1070 mini and it works perfectly in my r720 after removing one of the risers.. I do plan on getting a very thin PCIE power cable off eBay to see if that would work as I would like to have the riser back in my server, though she doesn't seem to care that it isn't installed, besides the error on the diagnostic panel
Most consumer GPUs have fins like that because that means the heat in the middle can escape the card. With fins along the long side of the card, heat in the middle would stay stagnant and go nowhere as the airflow would create a vortex inbetween the two outer fans. With a single fan it's okay but with larger cards a server-oriented fin stack is very bad.
HI Pino My channel is English, and to make sure as many as possible, can also enjoy the comments, they are also English. Please keep to English. Thank you for watching! :-)
@@MyPlayHouse Hello Morten I need advice I have a Lenovo system x3650 m5, and I am working on my own little project to set it up and do cooling etc. The PSU makes an incredible amount of noise! - do you have any good advice on, how I can reduce the noise from the fan?
The 82 degrees Celsius (180f) is max for this architecture. And lots of gamers makes those cards water cooled, so there is not even a pump controlled by graphics card.
If i were you i would probably grind plastic housing a bit to fit in, 14 nanaometers and 83 Celsius is a bit high, mine computer never had above 60 degrees Celsius under any load
I enjoy watching you, your informative. I never would have guessed running a blade server is cheaper on electricity compared to a bunch of 240 or 300 watt 1 u servers! We have 115 or 220 here in Canada. You can also run 24 volts dc,but that requires different hardware and battery banks.then theres the hydrogen gas emitted from lead acid batteries! Not good in a house! Do you run an isp with all those servers?
I wish the card would have complained in some way because what if it was installed in a rig and the fans stopped working? some one like you or me could diagnose the issue easily as the card would slow down under load, but the average joe may not be able to
Hm. Air guide… There´ s a lot of room under the graphics card. If you made an air guide that will basically sit flush with the now underside of the cooling fins… "I have to think about this!", Deep Thought said.
@@egg5474 I reckon it could be contained inside a heatsink under pressure in a loop. And enterprise customers have loads of money to spend on GPUS anyway!!
