I think the refutation to the Nakhmanson is the 6. Nxc3 line with a quick d5. After 7. Re1+ Be7 8. bxc3 d5 9. Bb5 0-0 10. cxd4 Bf5, Black is fully developed, up a clear pawn, and there are no complications. Can you look at this and suggest any deviations for white to maintain winning chances?

It is really funny how Jonathan is trying to keep this gambit alive! I admit, it could be fun to have something like this on the board, but you know... from objective point of view Kf6 still refutes it, and i don t understand why people aren't playing Kf6 instead of a clear blunder. As mentioned Kf6 scored 0% for white. Crush a dead gambit as a hero instead of lose like a fool!

Excellent format for a video

I've been enjoying the Lasker-Pelican variation of the Sicillian for black, which goes approximately: 1.e4 c5, 2.Nf3 Nc6, 3.d4 cxd4, 4.Nxd4 Nf6, 5.Nc3 e5, 6.Ndb5 Bb4! This is actually the second move the Lichess engine gives, and the best continuation according to it is 7.a3, where you'd have to trade the Bishop for the Knight on c3, so you essentially traded the bad bishop for a knight, compared to the main line. However, the main line has 6... d6 to prevent Nd6+, so in most cases online I'll see 7. Nd6+ Ke7! (Threatening to take the Knight) 8.Nf5+ Kf8, and suddenly White needs to think. I'm threatening Nxe4 because of the pin on the Knight, and I'm threatening d5. Most commonly I'll see something like 9. Bd3 d5, 10. exd5 Nxd5,11. 0-0, where the Lichess engine claims the position is valued at about -0.1 after the move Nf4, and at least +1 for everything else. Maybe something interesting to look at.

John, you kept a reminder you didn't analyse.. why not Ne5 instead of B4 ? Ne5 forks the queen and Knight so you trade knights and continue the intended attack?

Very cool to see your process of analyzing an opening line. I didn't know about that trick to show the threat. The Nakhmanson Gambit is so much fun to watch so I'm glad to see there's still a lot of crazyness left to discover in it!

I am Having Problems when black goes back with the knight to somewhere or takes my knight with his basically declining the nakhmanson

You may do future videos on it... One for Kf6 which seems to refute the gambit, one on knight takes on c3 instead of the pawn taking and one on knight d6 going for a double attack on the bishop and the knight. It can be hard to do the one on Kf6 because after people learn about the refutation it wont work any more and you seem to really like playing it(it's such a great opening to play... If they know Kf6 unless they know the refutation from there you can still win and if they don't they will play Ke8 and then the position is probably a draw with perfect play but it is going to be impossible to play correctly for a human and it's so hard for black. )

Finally got a Nakhmanson today. Remembered the theory 11 moves in and still almost lost. So fun.

After a bit of analysis, I think black has another much easier option to spoil white's fun: 6... Nd6. It looks unnatural, but it It defuses white's main tricks and makes things really easy to play for black. The knight is off the e file (so no pin), f7 is defended, and now white has to spend time saving the hanging pieces. It seems like Black just gets to play Nxc4, Be7, O-O, d5 and be completely fine, and probably a pawn up.

I don't think there is a "refutation" of the Nakhmanson Gambit but yes there are ways black can get a decent position if they know a few moves. Just like I posted in my channel :) Very nice video Jonathan, enjoying the Nakhmanson Gambit as a GM as well :)

6.Nd6 refutes the Nakhmanson imo. Leads to positions with a clean pawn up for black and you don't get any complications.

I got it, when you offer the Knight I just move my Knight on e4 to d6 which attacks your Bishop and protects the Kings checks which then I can be safe and get a longer chance to move my bits out,,,,,

Amazing video, seems the critical resource to find in all variations in b4 for white, but psychologically as white i don't want to play that, I want to keep attacking! I guess my 11. Rxe4 was a mistake which lead to black having clear winning chances. Visually that move looks amazing: white has 4 pieces in the attack, plus the other rook coming and black has basically the king keeping everything together (after 11. ...Be7). Turns out Qxe4 + b4 are the moves for white and I agree with you if those 2 are played white's gonna have all the fun and black needs to be Karjakin "minister of defense" level to survive

Nxc3 is simply better for black, it is what stockfish plays, and after a few moves it is just a normal position with white having a bad pawn structure.

I played Nakhmanson once. My opponent abused me on chat before 1st move, then I won and his rage started. He got banned instantly probably because of H-surname on chat. That was really satisfying.

After moves b4, why wouldn't black take the pawn en passant? It nullifies the threat, attacks the A file rook, and threatens pawn promotion.

In your own database, 6...dxc3 is only played 12 times out of 57 games. In my database, 6...dxc3 is only played 5 times out of 38 games. In the real World, what's the point of playing for something that rarely actually happens?
