It wasn't until Digital Eclipse took over at Namco Museum 50th Anniversary that the Namco Museum series embraced emulation. These are ports (DC, N64, GC, Xbox, PS2, GBA, etc.), but just because the PS2 is strong against these does not inherently means they'll be accurate; the arrangement games are notorious for their music being off pitch.
I took me a whole to realize that these are ports and not emulation. Fir example, Galaga's ratio is cropped from its normal vertical 4:3 screen to...whatever that is.
Kinda surprising seeing the PS2 and Xbox versions having different menus than the GameCube ones especially since I know more about the GCN release then the others.
As an avid fan of this series preserving Namcos classic arcade titles I recently acquired this excat version for the playstation 2 however I wasn't aware of the disc being a colored one so for whatever reason when I first acquired this version for the playstation 2 It wouldn't let the disc play in other words since it was a colored disc it wouldn't play witch deeply saddened me I mainly got this for the arrangement titles being on it and since I never played any of them prior to owning this version of Namco museum I thought that this would be a nice inclusion to add to my collection of other versions of Namco museum as well so unfortunately we have to get a new playstation 2 just so that I can play this game on it its worth it for that alone but also unfortunate that I don't get to play it untill that does ends up happening witch means the disc itself will spend a huge amount of time inside of its own case At least for now I get to watch videos of this particular Namco museum incarnation in action so I can see all of games that are included on this particular version I also got it because I discovered that Pac Attack was also on this version witch I also never got around to playing so I'll definitely be interesting in seeing what that game plays like in terms of actually getting a chance to play it on the playstation 2 hopefully you can also make videos going over volumes 2 and 5 of the playstation Namco museum series if you could do that I'd greatly appreciate it
Actually seems Namco added the fairy sound to be cleaner on this version of Pac-Attack. I don't remember the Fairy sounding a nice clear chime when she was activated to clear ghosts out when her meter was full.
Ever since I got the GameCube version of this and played the Pole Position duology on it, I could never help but wonder, "HOO BOY, are there any steering wheels for the system that would work well with this? These analog and d-pad controls are ATROCIOUS." I still wonder that to this day. Anyone know?
Another thing to add, Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man seemingly are based off their PS1 Namco Museum counterparts, as the games just don't quite look right. Namco remedied this with their 50th Anniversary compilation on the PS2, GC, XB, and PC, instead going with emulation. THANKFULLY Ms. Pac-Man were still in these collections, the debacle with her rights happening years after. Counting the version of Pac-Mania here, I have 6 versions of this game in my collection: NES Tengen release Genesis Tengen release Namco Museum 5 PS1 JP version Namco Museum PS2 Namco Museum 50th Anniversary PS2 Namco Museum Mega Mix Wii
