idea for a new video: store brand vs store brand each store seems to have their own version of the national brands but are there differences between each store's?
The great value organic creamy peanut butter is so good!! In my opinion a lot better than jiff. And also it has less carbs per serving than any other peanut butter I’ve seen. Just thought I’d share this 😂
In a lot of cases, off-brand food is literally the exact same thing as their name brand counterparts. They were produced in the same facility by the same company following the same recipe. The only differences are the packaging and the price.
Chobani is rich and creamy Greek yogurt, regular yogurt is watery and thin lol. I don't think anything can beat chobani but I've only had that Greek yogurt.
Greek yogurt has a different texture and is made differently than traditional yogurt. To do a true test, you should do a store brand greek yogurt versus Chobani.
Hi Kallie, Thanks for doing the Walmart comparison. You might want to keep coming back to Walmart every couple months and doing a different set of products. (You might also try the health & beauty products. I find those dead on. Those are called Equate.) I've been shopping at Walmart for about 7 years and have found the line of Great Value products just keeps expanding, but in the last 6 months or so the number just seems like they are exploding. I find them generally as good or better than what they are copying, so a lot of times I come out with maybe only one name brand item, or none. I know you don't shop at Walmart regularly, so here's a tip on the Great Value. They don't just make them like a generic match of the overall product type; they are matching a specif brand. You'll find them right next to that brand on the self, and usually the package will be shaped exactly the same and it will look similar. The colors will be the same although they won't/can't copy the exact pattern and only change the name. That's why when you brought out the yogurt and the package looked so dissimilar to the Chobani, I knew it wasn't going to be a match. My guess is that it was sitting next to another yogurt that was in the same shape package and if you had tested that, you would have said it was a much better match. The Tostadas are brand new. I was excited to find those the other day and agreed with everything you said about them, however, I was reluctant to buy them because the package didn't look at all the same, so I kept thinking they must be trying to match something else in a brown package. As you found in your price comparison a few weeks ago, you can really save money on the name brands at Walmart vs other stores, and I find the with the Great Values I can save significantly more and not sacrifice taste. Keep up the great videos.
I found it interesting that both times the Walmart brand was the winner of two things that are apparently staples in her house, as soon as the blindfold came off, she back-peddled a bit to say they were really closer than originally rated - the chips and the mac and cheese. Bottom line - try everything and find what you like. No harm if you only have one box of something you don't care for.
I have found that the Walmart Great Value food is really pretty good. I buy the orange juice, yogurt, frozen food, milk,... just as good as name brand and you save money
The yogurts are going to taste different because you got different types of yogurt. The Great Value one should have been compared to a Yoplait yogurt or found a Great Value greek yogurt to compare to Chobani. Also I know with the kroger brand of mac n cheese, It doesn't reheat well so keep that in mind if you wanted to reheat the GV one. Besides that great video, I love these kinds of videos. I work for Kroger in Arizona. I know a lot of our products are manufactured by the brand names and then just put in our cheap packaging. I've been told Sara Lee makes our bread.
Tostitos were a staple in our home till we discovered the great value corn chips. We liked that they’re re thicker and not as many are broken that way.
I just watched this and this reminded me of something funny. So my friend's dad was very very strict about getting ONLY name brand cereal... Well the wife(mother) bought the same cereal but generic and took the bag out of the generic one and put it in the name brand box. He never knew until my friend made a comment one day :)
The simply lemonade is refrigerated from the beginning so it’s always going to be better. If you want this to be accurate you would have to get the MARKETSIDE (Walmart brand) lemonade because it is also refrigerated from the beginning. This and the yogurt one ruins it.
You didn't compare apples to apples..... the yogurts are regular vs greek... and the Mac and cheese the nutritional values... they are not the same serving size! And the as packaged is exactly the same so how did it get more calories? Does one tell you to use skim or 2%???
This is crazy and mind-blowing to me. I don't mind generic brands as a whole (I really enjoy Kroger brand, especially), but anything Great Value, Walmart brand I have always extremely disliked. Maybe Walmart has been changing some things up.
I have (begrudgingly at first) been doing my shopping at wal-mart recently (closer and easier than alternatives) and one thing I discovered, to my shock, was that for about 70% of things, I am very happy to save money and go with their "great value" brand. Yeah, some things are not as good as name brand, but much to my surprise, by and large, it is a great generic brand for a lot of things.
Mostly everything I buy is from Walmart. I started off trying to buy the cheapest items. I stumbled across Great Value and I haven't looked back. When I went shopping for food and bought name-brand items, I would purchase 30 to 40 items to equal $100. With the same end price with Great Value, I managed to purchase 70 to 80 items. Big change.
Love this kind of videos no matter that where I live there is almost none of the featuring food :D also carrageenan is made from seaweed and is pretty much harmless, it is used as a thickening agent in food.
I need to show my husband these videos! He likes name brands but I don't think he even knows why. I bought store bought Fruit and Grain bars yesterday and he literally flipped a shit but then he ate like 2 or 3 in a row. People prefer name brands due to advertising and marketing. He likes name brand cheese, butter, and it drives me nuts. He hasn't even tasted all the store bran equivalents but he thinks the name brands are better. The only thing I think I will ever have to buy name brand is Oreos, other than that I don't care.
3:03 The problem here is the Great Value yogurt is no greek. It would more comparable to those little yoplait cups of yogurt. Great value has greek yogurt as well. It is more expensive
I'm guessing for the lemonade test, she pulled out a cold container (it's half empty) from the FRIDGE vs the Great value lemonade which is probably room temp.
The reason the great value yogurt is so much cheaper is that it’s not Greek. Greek is going to be a lot more expensive. Should have checked light and fit Greek vs the 80 calorie great value. It is slightly cheaper, but I usually get great value because I don’t mind the difference (Havnt tried them side by side and they basically taste the same)
Our family prefers almost all Walmart/Great Value brand items over many of the more expensive name brands.. (except mayo & a few other things) Saves money and tastes better!
We have a Walmart Town Market(or something like that). It's a direct competitor to Stop&Shop. I have never gotten an inferior Great Value product. Their jarred pasta sauces are the best. Better than the name brands. Same thing with their premium canned soups. Their canned veggies and fruit taste like they came right from dole and Green Giant. The same can NOT be said for Stop&Shop's store label. A lot of their stuff is hit or miss.
Ive been slowly trying Walmart brand stuff in our house for the past 6 months or so and I’m really surprised at how good they’re doing with the taste of most of their items.. some items even being healthier. I get mad every time something great value tastes better then the brand I’ve always bought previous bc yes I’m saving money, BUT I feel like Walmart is going to take over and stop selling other brands items eventually. Before we know it they’ll be charging us to walk through their door.
There is a huge difference with the yogurts, you can never compare Greek yogurt to regular yogurt, the Greek is always going to be more creamy, their is a fat difference. U will need to compare Greek to Greek and regular to regular
I only buy the Kraft Mac & Cheese. To me it’s worth the extra money. I honestly don’t think the lemonade comparison is apples to apples. Simply Lemonade is sold in the refrigerated section and I’m not even sure Walmart has a real comparison. My local grocery store does and it tastes literally the same - we buy the generic. I also always buy generic tortilla chips at my local market - unless Tostitos are on sale (same price or cheaper). Generic foods have come a long way in recent years!
I tend to buy generic over brand name. But I've found that generic cereal is no way near as good as brand name cereal. The price difference isn't big either. I think Walmart and Target have good generic options. Always good to try generic to see if it's a better buy.
I knew before she tried the Walmart lemonade, she wasn’t gone like it. It was on sell once so I got it and it was the most nasty beverage I have ever tried. I went back, returned it, and went to chick fil a and got a gallon from them😂😂😂😂
It'd be interesting to see Gluten free vs not gluten free foods, do they taste the same? I actually prefer gluten free pretzels even though i dont have to eat gluten free. For some reason they taste better.
Hmm.. I had to pause at 4:35. There were so many cuts to this clip that I only can assume you touched the packaging to grab your soon. So you already new the round one was the good brand. To many cuts in between that I saw. Cmon guys,.. 8 like your channel but I don’t want fake shit. I hope it doesn’t happen again or I’m gone.
Christopher Cabral glad I’m not the only one who noticed. Also if you pay close attention you can see her peek when she “smells” things. She does it in every single video like this she does. Why be fake?
I would feel a little sceptical of this video but I damn near switched to all great value only thing that is not better then the name brand was the ketchup
I don't want to nitpick but the Walmart yogurt isn't even close to the same as the Greek chobani yogurt. And you can't really compare simply juice to Walmart juice. I feel like this video is comparing apples to oranges
