King of Storms and Nameless King Information
During the first phase of the boss fight, his name is shown as "King of the Storm," until the wyvern he is riding is killed. This begins the second phase where his name changes to "Nameless King."
Hawkwood, if summoned, will use a Black Separation Crystal once the bell has rung, disabling summons. He may be killed before this encounter, allowing summons to be possible.
WARNING: ringing the bell to summon The King of Storms covers Archdragon Peak in a massive storm, making certain items, primarily The Twinkling Dragon Torso Stone (and therefore its partner, The Twinkling Dragon Head Stone) unobtainable until he is defeated.
Location
Archdragon peak, after ringing the large bell by the Great Belfry he becomes available.
Drops
Souls: 60,000, NG (80,000), NG+ (160,000), NG++ (176000), NG+3 (180000), NG+6 (??), NG+9 (??)
Souls for Cooperator: NG (20,000), NG+ (40,000), NG++ (44,000)...
Soul of the Nameless King
Combat Information - King of Storm
First phase of the battle.
Health: NG (4577)
Attacks deals Fire Damage, Lightning Damage, Standard Damage and Thrust Damage.
Weak to Lightning Damage and Frostbite.
Weak spot: Head, Neck and Wings.
Damage bonus to the neck is somewhere between damage to the head and body.
Hits to the legs deal minor damage.
Resistant to Poison/Toxic, Bleed and Fire Damage.
Can't be parried, but can be staggered and riposted for massive damage. Recovery after that riposte is long.
Can easily jump out of your camera view, a good strategy would be to increase camera sensitivity and do not lock on at all times.
Combat Information - Nameless King
Second phase of the battle. If failed, the first phase must be repeated.
Health: NG (7100)
Attacks deals Lightning Damage, Thrust Damage and Standard Damage damage.
Weak to Dark Damage and Fire Damage.
Resistant to Bleed, Frost and Lightning.
Immune to Poison/Toxic.
Can't be parried, but can be staggered which allows performing a riposte.

Try to lock onto the King during the first phase. He stays relatively still whereas the dragon's head keeps moving. It also helps since he has more attacks than the dragon.

+Twisted_Tempest I finally beat him after 10 tries lol. I just manually controlled the camera while he was on his drake. Fighting him by himself I used the lock on and just telegraphed all his moves.

The worst part for me is the distance perception. Sometimes he's closer and sometimes further away because of the fog and nothing around to judge the distance. That to me is worse than the camera angles.

This boss has been updated, on the PS4 at least, since you made this video and he is not as easy now. The dragon will jump into the air above you and breath fire whether you're close to him or not.

+IceCold2099 im the exact opposite, I have the worst time fighting the dragon and the camera. It gets turned around, I loose lock on and get wrecked. I loose most of my estus and when its time to fight the king I run out of health. I also have problems switching lock on from the drake to the king, any suggestions?

Keep distance. Learn to look behind u as u are running. When the dragon does a dash forward at you (Not an attack) run forward and get the distance from it, quickly look behind you to lock back on to the dragon. Simply press down on the camera control to switch back to the dragon head. I know it's not easy at first. Once you get the hang of it, it's still a bitch. It will automatically switch to the King after certain attacks he does. Especially his high flying cuts. So just be aware.

That's literally the only reason I can't beat this boss. The camera angle is so bad that and I get hit a lot during the first phase. By the time I get to the second phase I've already used too much Estus.

Im at a point where i can fight king of the storm perfectly without taking damage, but as soon as i misstime a dodge with nameless im dead, because he always follows the swipeattacks up with a second one, where you cant move.

@@dariusmaresca8085 What? This fight was very standard RNG, he was never in a situation where he was close to dying. NK is a very standard melee boss, made even easier by the fact that he can't chain attacks together. The same tell means the same combo, 100% of the time, so learning his moveset means he can only hit you if you misread his attacks and you can safely stand right next to him unlike other harder melee bosses like Champion Gundyr and Pontiff Sulyvahn. So just follow up with a single hit at the end of every combo and stay glued to him and you won't have much trouble. Getting greedy is the absolute bane of your existence though, trying to get two or more hits in with any but the fastest weapons is basically just flipping a coin to see if you'll take damage. If you have a fast enough weapon at +10 with a good infusion and soft capped damage stats (which you should have before you level vigor by more than 5-10 levels, seeing as damage makes every fight easier and faster whereas health doesn't really do anything unless you get hit by multiple hits in a row all the time) you can get in enough damage to keep staggering him and healing when necessary, but it's not any easier than fighting him normally as you have to time your heals very well to make it work.

@@deusex9731 He does a follow-up every time he does that attack, it's very predictable. Sounds like you're rolling away from him if you get hit by the follow-up. Just take the lessons the game has already taught you; when facing a hard-hitting melee guy, stay close to him and use your i-frames to dodge THROUGH, not away from, his swings. This puts you in a better position to hit him at the end of his combo, meaning you get one guaranteed hit for free every time he attacks or combos.

He means if you roll too early, just roll again. And that works really well, allowing you to dodge almost every single attack he can throw at you. His long telegraphs can definitely throw you off before you learn his patterns very well, so rolling a second time if you mistime it is a pretty reliable backup.

The two deadly ds3 sins in one boss fight: a massive boss that makes you fight the camera more than the boss itself, and then in the second phase a boss that can combo out of almost all of his attacks, and can vary the timing on most of them.

Even though I struggled on this boss the most out of all the bosses in FromSoftware's games. (Except their really older ones) I found this fight really epic and fun. The first phase at least. The second phase I didn't really like though, I hate fights where the enemy will just not fuck off for even the slightest moment! I'm not saying there has to be periods where the boss stands still and lets me whale on them, but like, will have brief pauses between their slew of attacks in which both me and the boss will disengage while keeping on guard, then re-engage. The *Spoiler* Soul of Cinder was a good example of a fight that was challenging but felt epic and honorable. Nameless King however? Nope. You could have a jetpack on and fly back a football field's length and the asshole will be on your balls again withing a split second, or one of his lightning attacks will be.

Lothric knight shield blocks 87% lightning damage! combined with the sun princess ring to heal back chip damage. and chloranthy ring cause his attacks drain mucho stamina :O makes the fight alot easier! also learning his attacks. on the dragon its pretty easy. aslo his top down fire breath attack you can literally out sprint.. not roll.. sprint! and his second stage on foot hes erratic.. going back and forth between super agro.. to chillin xD if you got the lothric knight shield upgraded even just a little. mine was plus 4. you can block most attacks so long as you drop your guard in between and try to dodge the ones that are guaranteed not to hit you. tis all the tips i got i guess ??! goodluck :D i didnt die to any boss really not before this guy.. 10 tries at least on this fight.. so hes pretty tough ^^ !

+Starlightguide probably because it's Raw dude. Raw takes away all scaling and by the time you should even be fighting the Memeless King Raw should be irrelevant. Raw is just away for low level players to max out damage early in the game and should not be taken to late game ;)

@@ksdagaming3208 This! 95% lightning resist, 70% fire resist for the first phase, and stability for days. It takes a lot of strength and vitality, but it will block basically everything he can throw at you. Even the giant lightning bolt.

Hey guys, if you're having a tough time beating the dragon and have a strength build, there is a really easy way to beat it. The dragon is really weak to lightning, so get the Dragonslayer Axe and upgrade to +4. The dragon should go down in 4 hits where you can riposte and move on to the King. The only problem is that the axe doesn't work too well on the King itself since it takes up a lot of stamina and the roll attack has almost no range. Once the dragon is down, just quickly switch to your weapon of choice.

This guy just doesn't stop attacking me. I run out of stamina from rolling and he's still attacking me. There are literally no openings for me to get a hit in. And that's with 40+ Endurance.

+Kaleb Hutchins This was the only fight I actually had a use a shield. I would recommend the lothric knight shield (I had it at +9 for the extra stability). Just do a combo of dodging/shielding attacks and you will get the hang of his movesets after awhile. I had insanely low stamina on my character, and he only broke my guard a few times (I was able to dodge his next attack after each guard break).

I agree, with that Grand (with the capital letter) build-up in the Peak, with all the majestic scenery around, with all the fantastic design and effects in his 'boss room' it's such a letdown it's just a bs 2-phase boss with camera issues, delayed crap that some times hits, and some times not, and giant-ass health pool. I swear I'll make everyone who made this boss fight the way it is regret it once I'll beat it lvl 59. Curses upon those ill-minded bastards (Q&A, testers, and devs themselves of course).

@@BmikroB Phase 2 is so good, delayed attacks are what make dodging the attacks so satisfying once you nail it. Your problem is you're doing it at level 59, wait a while (I did it after both Demon Prince and Spear of the Church but before Gael and Midir) and it was great fun. Camera in phase 1 is AIDS but phase two is amazing.

@Artorias the Abysswalker Well, I remember that satisfying feeling of accomplishment in Dark Souls games (and also Bloodborne), so I understand how it must be good to beat NK after mastering his Phase 2. However, I still think this phase is so flawed (as well as NK as a whole) in many many ways (even though after practicing I was able to beat Phase 1 w/out taking any damage), including his impossibly big spear reach/range. Of course it might be just stupid underleveled me, who is to blame the most. But before NK I've beaten many main game bosses (since I don't own DLCs) which felt impossible to beat at first, but after some training the fights became fantastic in terms of pacing, difficulty and 'fairness' (for the lack of a better word). Especially Aldrich, DS Armour, Yhorm & Lorian. Even on lvl59, even when the odds felt unforgiving, intolerable, absurd - every time I've managed to find a sweet spot of advancing, no matter how long the fight was taking (for example, I fought Yhorm for about 15 minutes,or more - not only because of underlevelling, but because I simply couldn't get the hang on Storm Ruler, thus I had to rely on critical attacks; I also fought him solo not knowing of Siegward's involvement in this fight; in the end I enjoyed every minute of it and the grand emotion upon finishing Yhorm off was magnificent). I don't feel anything remotely similar to those in NK boss fight. I still believe it's rather cheaply designed compared to others. But it all doesn't matter now since I've uninstalled the game quite some time ago, and I don't think that I'd return to it any time soon. I guess I've really gone hollow, heheheh.

Same thing happened to me with twin princes, first 4 times they were aggressive as shit and i never had time to heal. By the fifth try tho they were alot calmer thus alot easier

The best way to melee this boss is to have pretty decent endurance, a heavy weapon for King of Storm, and a quick weapon (like a straightsword) for the Nameless king. It may take a little while to kill him with a weak/fast weapon, but it lowers the risk of running out of stamina and taking hits. for locking on, make sure that you lock onto the dragon immediately after landing in order to land hits easier: if it takes flight for an aerial strike, target the king in order to make evading his strikes quite easy. On phase 2, make sure you're locked on AT ALL TIMES even if he dashes off of your screen... that's pretty much it. his lightning weapon makes the first phase easy (with the weapon art summoning bolts down on the dragon... he is relatively weak to lightning) while his sword makes the 2nd phase easier as well (weapon art helps with staggering him a little easier/quicker)

They got lucky on the dragon it seems, not once did the dragon blow fire in the air and he got back to back ground fires. I've been fighting him all afternoon and I haven't seen him do a single ground fire attack.

@@blrolz3544 I noticed the firebreath attack gets triggered if you end up going under the dragon (and by under, anywhere under the dragon's head/neck and body). So you need to be right in front of it or else 99% chance it will do the firebreath. The moment I enter the map, he tends to fly over me, I try to get at least 1 hit, but things get a bit janky where I end up under the dragon. I remove targeting and just run away as fast as i can because like clockwork, he does the firebreath.

Very good explanation. Keep close to the dragon and keep rolling to the side so that the dragon will not fly off. Be patient and wait for the dragon head to come back so that you can hit it. For the king, the video explains his attacks clearly so you know when to dodge his lighting attacks, it will take some time and practice to figure our the correct timing to dodge, from there on, it will be a sequence if dodge, dodge, 1-2 hits, dodge dodge, etc. Using a faster weapon can get in more hits.

I finally beat this boss. If you’re using a great sword during the second phase just stay at mid range and bait his stabbing attacks. If you end up close, dodge backward diagonally. Hope this helps. I used BKGS+5.

+even1313 watching other people is usually very different than playing, because when playing your attention may be drawn to other things. Also RU-vid compression and such will not match your tv. If you find yourself not able to fit in attacks, adjust your equipment load and chose a faster weapon

+Fextralife It was indeed crazy ! I myself really enjoy coop, but as a completionist, I usually like to do each boss offline at least once. (Also cause I limit my subscription to the PS+. I hate to pay for the online experience... So I barely used coop in Bloodborne anyway). For this one, I actually needed to do it in coop the first time. I couldn't kill him alone, no matter how many times I tried. That's something that never happened to me by the past with other Souls games. And then one night, I did an Old Hunters DLC marathon with a friend. We exchanged the controller after each death basically. And I managed to kill him alone after probably a quarter of the night spent on him. I was shaking. I'm telling you all that cause that was probably the most satisfying thing I ever did in a Souls game ! I didn't know he was nerfed though. When did it happen ? I didn't touch Bloodborne in a while. I hope he still is a good challenge.

when he goes in the air for the nameless king to throw a lightning spear at you, you can run in the same cyclical direction as the wyvern to avoid the lightning spear, you cannot do this with the second attack however. as for the fire napalm attack; run like hell as soon as you hear the wyvern roar, you almost definitely won't get the roll timing down and if you run any later you'll get hit. with decent armor and/or health pool you should survive at full health.

I bet this guy purely after "gitting gud" ,after so many tries I knew all his attacks and patterns off by heart. I used wolf knight armor two hand uchigatana +10 no ember Carthus coal resin lvl 89 maxed estus life ring, chloranthy ring and both Carthus rings. KOTS Phase is so easy and I usually didn't even have estus. Second phase is what's truly difficult and requires a lot of rolling and r1s only using 1 r1 (at the most 2) each opening. When I bet him I was so happy also I actually kind of enjoyed the fight and it was quite fun and epic. Me and my friend went absolutely silent when he went low hp... Anyway good boss, thought he was impossible but never give up... GIT GUD

To those complaining about camera - I recommend tracking this boss only when he flies and when You are about to attack him. Helped me a lot with 1st part of fight. With this being said the boss still slaughters me hard when 2nd phase kicks in.

this boss was so epic and fun! my fav DS3 boss by far. I think the great advice here is - learn the timings of dodges (you'll die a ton by learning it ofc) and DON'T get greedy with attacks, especially if you have UGS or something as slow equipped. Maybe in the early gameplay there wes a boss you could overlevel or destroy with an upgraded weapon - nameless king is not, no cheesing this fella, just don't get frustrated with deaths and you will get him eventually

I would still recommend faith builds to bring lightning blade to the first phase, as it can make quick work of the King of the Camera. I also brought carthus flame arc to use against the nameless king, and it gave some nice increase in damage as well(from 203 to 280, a nice 40%) Edit: dark blade is actually better, as the video portraits

I haven't beaten him yet but I'm on my second playthrough and I'm at him again - determined to get him this time. On first playthrough I struggled with Abyss Watchers, Pontiff and Twin Princes but on 2nd playthrough I killed all 3 first time so I'm sure Nameless King won't be so bad once I learn his attacks. I always play solo and will enjoy taking him down.

not to bad of a boss, his attacks are considerably slower which changes your dodging times quite a bit, you have to wait til the last moment to dodge not when you see the attack unlike every other enemy in the game. The overhead lighting slam you can actually break lock and run at him and behind him and the slam and aftershock will miss you entirely. If your weapon is strong enough and you got the stamina an easy several thousand point of damage.(Maxed BK Axe was able to stagger him in 3 hits then the riposte almost 3K damage)

If this boss was just his second phase it would've been a, if not good, a much better fight. But the first phase just ruins everything. After the initial "cool, Goku riding on a giant bird dragon in the clouds shooting lightning and shit at you!" impression wears off King of the Storms (first phase boss) is just a series of almost zero openings to hit the boss, Camera Souls, and two-shotter attacks. The bird is squishy, that is _when you can even hit its fucking head_ which you must pray and offer many virgin blood sacrifices at the altar of RNGesus to make that happen. Watch out for that Ancient Dragon flying fire breath of death that is even harder to run away from than Ancient Dragon because you're given almost no warning in advance to get away from it! The Nameless King himself is a more interesting fight, I think he has too much health and does too much damage, especially after all the Estus you'll have used up the first phase. And inevitably he kills me and I have to start the garbage all over again. The fact that THIS is the boss with three different soul transpositions when every other boss has only two makes this even more bullshit. If I want every item in the game I have to fight this fucker up to NG++, when otherwise I'd just happily skip him altogether. I think I might hate this boss worse than Bed of Chaos, Aldia and Ancient Dragon, which says a lot, because I really, REALLY hate those bosses. This is the anger talking, if I can find a workable strategy and actually kill this fucker I'll come back and offer some thoughts in better perspective.

+jonjonmcjonjon The easyiest way to slay fase 1 is to wait for the boss to use that thunder smashing atack, if you dodge just right you can land 5 or 6 hits on the dragon head, 2 times and he will fall for a critical hit on the eye and done, i use 1 or 2 estus fase one when the dragon cope.

I beat this guy this morning and wanted to offer my advice. First of all, try to get all 15 estus flasks or it's going to be nearly impossible. I had 11 going in, so looked up a video showing all estus flask locations and made sure I had them all. Second, don't be overwhelmed by the dragon fight. It's actually pretty easy. After I beat it once, I beat it on every turn. TNK was hard and kept killing me. I watched a few videos and learned to be patient with my rolls. Now here is the most important tip and what helped me the most. I found that rolling backwards is the best thing to do with this boss, especially when he does his thust attacks. If you roll backwards, most of the time he won't hit you. Just in case mash the roll back button. This also helps you get far away from TNK and since the area is pretty large, you will have time to sip from the estus flask. What I did was mostly wait for his flying attacks, that were a lot easier to dodge, then got 1 or 2 hits in. After he gets to 50% health he adds some new lightning tricks but I found them pretty easy to dodge. In the end. I had to use all my 15 estus + an ember when I was near the end of my health and beat him.

I’d say those are generally considered to be the most annoying bosses by most. Pontiff, Dancer, Nameless, and L&L are the main game bosses that at least one if not all of them are gonna make you rage quit at some point trying to learn their timing. All have different reasons different builds would struggle on, but relentless combos is their main shared quality.

I beat him on my fourth try. To do this, you must have all 15 flasks, burned all the bone shards, levelled up your primary weapon to max with a titanite slab and levelled up your dex, vigor and endurance to 35+. For the fight, use the grass crest shield and milk ring, these two are fundemental as the shield will give you faster stamina regenration and the ring helps give a boost to dex and damage you give to the nameless king. For the first phase, DO NOT LOCK ON with the camera, the camera will mess things up and make the fight harder. Always get as close as possible to the dragon head and hit it. Always look out for the nameless king's attacks that he does while on his dragon. This part is quiet simple but can be hard when the dragon is flying as it can do an attack in which it breathes fire down on you which is undodgable. For the second phase now you can lock on, dodge the nameless king's attacks so you get behind him, always try to stay close to him so he can't destroy you with his far ranged attacks. Always flask when on half health as the king will 1 hit you if you're not carefull. Just make sure you attack him when you are behind him. When he starts charging his sword in his kneeling position, always attack him as it makes him vulnurable. This fight isn't as hard as people make it out to be, trust me.

+Mizore Shirayuki I defeated him using an Ultragreatsword (Heavy Zweihander +10) and a Greatshield (Black Iron Shield) today. It was really damn hard, cause your attacks are so slow, but it's still possible with a lot of patience. the biggest Openings to get (always only) one hit in, are the attacks where he lifts into the air and charges at you. If you can get the timing right, roll into his direction when the attack comes and you'll find yourself behind him for one good attack. Immediately roll away from him after that, since the next attack comes pretty fast. A similar attack where flies to your side and thrusts his spear at you, can also be used, but be careful, since the first attack can be immediately followed up by another thrusting attack. Other Openings are mainly the ones where he thrusts his spear, as he takes the longest recovery time after these attacks and the charging attack at around 50% health (just be careful to dodge the incoming lightning attack)

Mizore Shirayuki I'd definitely use a quick weapon,for his second phase when it's just him. He is so damn agressive and barely leaves anytime for you to get an attack in. I used a +10 Dark Darkwraith's Darksword (So dark lmao) I have a lot of weapons, and it seemed to be the perfect weapon in terms of one that could hit pretty hard while being relatively fast. A katana should be fine though, so long as it's not fire or lightning based haha! Goodluck man! Just keep at it.

Something else worth noting is that landing several hits on him in quick succession will cause him to be staggered and allows you to go for a visceral attack that deals extra damage similar to a backstab or riposte. Don't get greedy trying to land bunches of hits though.

This boss was one of the easiest for me, I guess it helped me that before I defeated Slave Knight Gael and Darkeater Midir, the first part of the battle is the most difficult because of the horrendous camera the second face is more easy their attacks are easy to read. Another thing that helps a lot in this battle is having Dragonslayer Greatshield equipped, you can block their attacks by taking a little damage.

Did him in after a couple dozen tries. In phase 1 if you have a faith build use sunlight spear and it'll melt away the mount's health in 6 or so hits with the Ring of The Sun's First Born. For other builds you should use lightning pine resin and hit the mount in the head at the end of it's attacks. For phase 2 play it as safe as possible and don't get greedy with attacks. Get one/two hits whenever he does the jump attack or the lunge attack after rolling towards Nameless. Whenever he does the multihit combo, spam roll and get away from him (do the same if you need to heal). If you have breathing space use the dark miracle buff/human pine resin for your weapon but it's fine even if you don't cause he's relentless. Just hack him away bit by bit.

FextraLife, i'd like to ask: What was your set up (rings, armor, weapons, shield) so i could try this out. I tried using a strength weapon that takes a bit to attack(Yhorm's Great Machete) which lead me to getting hit or even killed. Your sword attacked pretty fast and dealt a lot of damage is a short amount of time. Also, keep making videos and making your wiki awesome!

"one of the most amazing battles in Dark Souls" then says "the lock-on and camera angles make this harder than it should me"... This fight may 'look cool', but because of the broken camera it isn't one of the best fights. Fucking FROM coding with one arm...that's even if they COULD code.

+InnocentFails but then how would I anticipate the rider's attacks to dodge? sometimes I just jump around blindly when I lose sight of him. it's a hit and miss situation. this is the last boss I haven't killed. and although he is okay 1 on 1. it's the damn camera movement when he is riding that causes unfair frustration. so stupid.

+Shadow Heart While the camera is indeed broken in this boss fight, its not the reason to why its hard. you can easily avoid that by not using the lock on. its merely a pointless annoyance. the dragon phase is the easy part, in the second phase the camera is not really an issue and thats the hard part of this boss fight (atleast for some melee builds)

Thnks, I think where I've been messing up is I've been mainly rolling to the left instead of the right, which is actually rolling into his weapon now that I think about it. I've got Nameless, Soul of Cinder, and the Freida DLC boss fight left. I've already almost beat Nameless King and Freida though. I haven't entered the Soul of Cinder boss fight yet, just the bonfire. I want to make sure I can still level up if needed and I play offline! lol

I believe it's an optional boss as well, just go straight to the last boss and beat the game. I'm stuck on him as well, really want his weapon and armor set.

+Noah Goodson HEY I GOT HELP FOR YOU! here is a section from my comment that applies specifically to you. "he walks slowly toward you until he sees one of many vague opportunities to attack. using this i just got him to slow walk into the spot between the dragon statues left wing and tail. he got stuck. i also noticed you could shoot an arrow through the hole in the dragon's looped tail. all i had to do was get him to move to my left enough so that i could shoot him through the tail and that was all she wrote. not sure how hard this would be to duplicate, but i did it on accident on version 1.03. good luck and happy hunting." also i used a plus 10 longbow, so if you dont have that you might need to bring a metric ton of arrows. but if you would rather 'git gud' than exploit, the rest of my comment will help with that as well.
