Copy of comment and relative info: Smallpiece: *Name Orgin is Anglo Saxon,* (orgin refers to a narrow strip of land, Middle English.) I was curious if it was Native American, so I did a quick search. The History and lineage of Migrations hold an interest for me. Beth Sociologist/Behavioralist and Historian Tennessee, USA
I was fascinated by that surname Smallpiece as its so unusual. Apparently its Norman in origin and came to the Cheshire region of England after the Norman invasion. It came from Malpas which is a town in Cheshire who this family had Lordship over. It gradually changed to Smalpas then over the centuries to Smallpiece.
The Confederate Calvary officers headstone certainly deserves to be in it original properly marked plot. The fact it’s found its way on its side near the road entrance begs to question. Thanks the other Robert for addressing and help maintain the dignity and respect for the dead.
Samuel T. Faust is the son of Samuel Peter Faust and Ann Champion. Samuel Peter is the son of Johann Peter Faust of SC and the Rev. War. These are my ancestors..... We did not know where the Faust Family in Sumpter County was buried. I can now do more research on this family. Thank you very much for your work. I enjoy your programs very much.
The infant mortality rate was high due to diseases and the mortality rate in childbirth for the mothers was also high. This was before any medical procedures that are used routinely today, like cesarean sections.. thank you for your respect and care of those graves.
I Totally Agree the Lost of a "Child" is "Very Sad". I had a "Sister that Died very Young (Only/less than 2yrs old).It really Devastated my Mother. Sincerely Yours 🤠 Mr Severance, "The Cake 😋🍰🎂🥳🎉🎈🥂🎊 Man ".
Could the first stone you came to was meant to lay flat like some of the other ones? How thick it was and no base in sight makes me wonder. This is what happens when the money runs out or the church disband
Hear his breath!!! 11:55 You can understand! His strength reveals disappointment, at first. This gentlemen wants no medals, higher recognition , not, but Possibly Will have a regiment in heaven. No year yet declared. Generations realize the count. Breath is hard to dig, find a life no longer, but will not stop until any voice no longer screamed from the grave. Sidestep Adventure care of those passed, history helps them, we remember, and we who watch understand.. Who are we related to?? I think to Everyone......
During the time your discussing, we didn't have antibiotics, or vaccines for communicable diseases. Diarrhea would dehydrate and send your electrolytes would get out of whack and that could kill you too.
I am 74 and live in Northern Ga. I wonder if anyone will look at my tombstone 100 or even 200 years from. I guess that I will have to lie there and wait to see if I get any company?
Co.F 25th GA. Infantry Altamaha Scouts Francis Marion Duckworth Private 15th April 1862 Roll for 31st October 1862 Last on file, shows him present. No later record.
Every person on the planet right now. Will not be remembered in a 100 years from now If we are lucky. Someone might run across our name in a family tree. Even the tombstones that has our name will eventually disappear
Robert, l had spinal surgery a year and a half ago that left me partially paralyzed. Watching you and Robert do these lost cemeteries I cannot tell you how much I really enjoy watching your videos. Take care
Some unusual stone designs in this one, both shapes and carvings. At least it is not overrun with weeds and trees. I did read that yucca plants are known as the "eternity" plant because they can live over 100 years. Most often planted in older cemeteries and commonly placed on graves. When cleaning a cemetery these plants should be left in place and never mown down, as this could be the only evidence of a grave. Great episode The Other Robert and Mrs. the assistant. 👍👍❣️ You even had you brush and flashlight! You must have read the new contract for "Adventures In History," no equipment, no pay. 😂
Consort is an archaic term : From the 17th through 19th centuries, consort was usually used on the graves of women, although a man could also be a consort. The word consort was normally used in this manner: 'Sarah--consort of Charles Galezio,' in which consort meant that Sarah was Charles's spouse and died before her husband did
Thank you "other Robert" I love that you and your partner go the extra mile. I also cleaned headstones before cancer. Every person who has ever lived changed our world in some small way!!❤
Thank you so much for this Robert, I really did enjoy it. The sound of the leaves crunching, and the brush swishing on the stone is so soothing. Also you read the names of these long gone folks with such warmth and respect. It warms my heart. We can all hope someone might read our names with such kindness long after we leave this earth. Thank you for all your hard work.
This is a definitely a adventure into history there must be quite a few cemerterys god bless them all other robert and friend doing a good job Andrew south wales uk 👍 👌 😀 🇬🇧
This breaks my heart to see all these lost neglected graves. It’s not just in Middle Georgia. I’m a native Atlantan which is rare but many cemeteries in the city limits are unassailable. I have Grandparents Great Grandparents that can’t be accessed. I try to gather help but fear for safety stops people in their tracks. Thanks for your time to make these videos.
O Robert and wife, a great video and so many remembered thru you reading their markers. My heart goes out to all the innocent children that didn't get a chance at life.
I’m a descendant of the Purvis’ and would love to know where the cemetery is located and I know a majority lived-lives in Wisconsin-Minnesota area and I’m a WI and IL branch. I actually have a cousin Mary Purvis. Maybe Typhoid that passed through around 15 years on and off.?
Children dying young in that era wasn’t unusual, especially in the South where many diseases were spread by mosquitoes. My GG Grandparents lived in Missouri and lost five out of nine children. That plant is in the Yucca family. I don’t know what kind it is.
How marvelous to find those graves. And they survived the War and lived on. I am lost in time and pause in respect for their service and thanks for their lives. What they did, what they saw, and that they survived and lived on. Just brings joy to my heart!❤
Aloha 🌺 Robert & Mrs.! Much Aloha to giving life again to many. Sad & Beautiful at the same time. Appreciate all the information in the comments! Aloha 🌺🥰
I truly enjoyed that you took me to this cemetery. Seeing the Confederate soldiers graves, and how many children left way too soon during the 1800's. Thank ya Sir!
Hi: The CSA marker for Samuel Faust, could it belong in the section with the Faust family? OR read two Faust names almost at the end of the video. Perhaps Samuel belongs with them. Many, many thanks for doing such a wonderful job.
We have those yucca plants. They can be found in most cemeteries, along with Prickly Pear Cactus. Both are native here in South Jersey. Awesome explore. I love the old cemeteries.
Hey other Robert you need a broom. So kind what you do. I love when you read the names and dates. It seems a lot of those children died during the civil war. Sad hopefully there is rest after we die.
Thank you so much Mr Robert for yaking us on your trip to this old cemetery. If this cemetery burials are documented anywhere, maybe the big 3 foot stone of the Confederate soldier can be placed where it belongs? That was a cool old cemetery!
As a child, I saw a Primitive Baptist Church and pictured a bunch of cave people in bear skin clothing going “ ug, ug, ug,” and prancing around a fire.
Uncle Robert you rock you teach us about our history that we wouldn,t learn in our books and classes and you are true role model and mentor and the nice lady that is with you she rocks and she is a true role model and mentor to ok from your friend Betsy in Medford Oregon ok
Caldwell Family Horrible Tragedy. John W Caldwell went insane and murdered his wife, Nancy, 3 of his children and his sister-in-law, Francis Mitchell. He used a smoothing iron, frying pan and grubbing hoe to kill them. Then John committed suicide by jumping headfirst into a shallow well. The newspaper "Georgia Weekly Telegraph" - Tuesday 11, 1878 carries the story. It is quite horrific!
