In today’s video, I will talk about Namhansanseong 남한산성 and the Manchu Qing Dynasty invasions of Joseon. Namhansanseong is a mountain fortress located in Gwangju, Gyeonggi province, bordered by the cities of Hanam and Seongnam. It’s less than 25km from Seoul and the fortress offers a magnificent view of the mega city.
During the Joseon dynasty it was used as an emergency capital city. The fortress saw much defensive use throughout its history, be it by the Baekje, Silla, Goryeo or Joseon dynasties.
Nowadays it’s a very popular tourist attraction as well as a place where people actually live so we now find cafes, restaurants, museums and much more.
Joseon was invaded by the Jurchen army (later called Manchu) from the Later Jin Empire 金國 (1616-1636) in the beginning of the year 1627 정묘호란. Things weren’t going too well for Joseon and its Ming ally, so Joseon accepted a peace treaty to end the conflict. Soon after, Later Jin became the Qing dynasty, with Hong Taiji as its emperor (皇太極, 1592-1643) . This time, Qing demanded that Joseon become its vassal. Joseon refused so Qing launched an attack in December of 1636 병자호란. At that time, King Injo 조선 인조 was the ruler of Joseon. The outcome of this battle would change Joseon’s destiny forever...
To end my video, I will tell the tale of the Tombstone of Seo Heun-nam 서흔남 묘비, an interesting tale about Namhansanseong Fortress.

After the Seven Years' War, the greatest tragedy of the Joseon Dynasty, the Gyeongsin Great Famine, begins (the Gyeongsin Great Famine is said to be related to the Little Ice Age) This famine was worse than the war for the people of Joseon at the time who experienced the war... It was serious enough to have a record.

Thanks very much for making this video. I'm sure the people who most appreciate it are the deceased people of 17th century joseon . I lived and worked nearby in Hanam city back in 2008 to 2011. Lol, it was already over 10 years ago. And my memories are as nostalgic as your video.

Idiot king Injo should've never been king - he's an evil father who killed his eldest son. Gwanghaegun should've ruled.

At that time, Joseon was in a very poor condition due to the 7 years of the Imjin War. They won the war and drove Japan out. Joseon was in very poor condition after the Seven Years War. The war between the Qing dynasty and the Joseon dynasty broke out 30 years after the replacement of the king due to friction between the unstable monarchy and the politicians. At that time, during the Ming-Qing War, the court of Joseon sent the Joseon army to fight the war together. In the Qing Dynasty Ming War, the Qing Dynasty wins with the defeat of the Ming Dynasty. And the Qing Dynasty began to take revenge on Joseon Joseon, who helped the Ming dynasty, must have been the cause of war in the Qing dynasty. The defeat of Joseon in an unwinnable war is natural. The diplomacy of the previously deposed Gwanghae was correct...

Thank you once again🙏. Always enjoy your videos. This is even more interesting for me because I watched the movie The fortress. Not sure who plays the woodcutter character in it.

what do you mean by ultra conservative? as I understand is someone who wants to preserve things then way they are at the time and don´t want to change anything, is that what you mean? Because there's also the modern politics view of conservatism. Thank you.
