Found on an old VHS tape, this Blue Peter segment featured the naming of HST power car 43151 and subsequent run from Newcastle to Penzance on 11th May 1987.
I remember my rail enthusiast days at My home town in Newcastle at that time. Watching Caron knowing she has passed on brought a tier to my eye. RIP Beautiful Caron xx
Wow!! Thanks for sharing, a real piece of history. An old acquaintance of mine the station manager, appears in a bowler hat at 32 seconds, a blast from my past. The wonderful Karen Keating too, may she rest in peace.
Right, I'll tell you an anecdote! In 1975 I was catching the London train from Crewe station. It was very crowded, I found myself in a last-minute rush for the one remaining seat with a tall, good-looking man with collar-length hair, it was the seventies - buckaroo! When I sat down on the chair, I looked up and realised it was none other than Peter Purves! It was at the height of his Blue Peter fame! He said "You jammy bastard!" and quick as a flash, I replied, "Don't be blue, Peter!" Needless to say, I had the last laugh, now f### off!
To be pedantic, the train operating company (ScotRail, GWR, etc...) don’t own power cars. They are leased from a leasing company such as Angel Trains or Porterbrook. The only exception is that First Group did buy a few power cars (maybe 6 on top of my head)
