I bought the original 49-key Hydrasynth as soon as it was announced, and did the same thing when the Deluxe came out. I LOVE the Hydrasynth Deluxe, I use it on virtually everything I do. It's an absolute dream to do sound design on, sounds fantastic, and can do just about everything you ever want in a synth.
this one and the Arturia PolyBrute are hermit-inducing and are well justified in moving off-grid (with a steady supply of electricity from the ..uh ..um ..grid)
Didn't get a chance to play on this one. I like the epic synth strings in the beginning. Sounds like something that would play great on a Sci-Fi movie like Prometheus or Avatar. I like the Arp Sequence at 6:55 with the split layer on top. Very nice sound combo. Well played
One of the few synths that has got me excited since I sold my Jupiter 8 many years ago. I think there's a very good chance this may become my new baby! 😎
The Hydrasynth sounds so analog for being a digital synth. I mean...fff.😳 Every patch sounds impressive to me. I wish I felt the same for the Kyra, for which I waited long, agonizing years and was totally disappointed by its sound
I have the original Hydrasynth..You can make it sounds super analog (Sometimes I can't tell the difference between it and my MatrixBrute), very digital and cold sounding or super crazy with it's wavetables and massive matrix.
Great stuff Jim, sounds good here! Now, the Hydrasynth is not analog, but from this video I realized the split does a lot, and I should stack two of my analogs so I can use them together with both hands. Cheers! :)
Damn, Jim! That very first patch is absolutely epic. Finish that piece, will ya? add some big percussive splashes (like timpanis), a few notes of an ethic-sounding flute with a long reverb and vibrato, maybe some ambient drums drone and call yourself Vangelis! Have the Hydrasynth desktop and now wanting a Deluxe. This synth is just beautiful beyond anything I've had before; Korg Triton studio, and a Kronos in the past. However, neither of the korgs ever made me feel the way the Hydrasynth does. The hydrasynth are absolutely beautiful and I'm grateful to have found this wonderful unit. Now to find a way to fund the synth addiction heheh
Without wanting to play on words, here you are comparing workstations with a synthesizer. I think the advantage of the Hydrasynth is to have a lot of controllers dedicated to sound manipulation, which makes it easier to use than the Kronos, but it's not the same type of machine.
Korg Wavestate + Hydrasynth Deluxe + MPC Live 2/X/One = awesome sauce trio for DAW-free arsenal of sound design and song creation. Any other gear in addition to those would be a bonus. Just saying 😉

These were patches that were in the model there on the floor. I was basically preset surfing with some minor tweaking of some of them. It’s a beautiful synth
Since some days there is a Hydrasynth Desktop on my desk. Great instrument but ... phewww 😓... the sound programming is a new dimension. There are so many ways to modulate and manipulate a sound. There are lots of presets that sound wonderful but to create your "own" is always a challenge (and fun) 🎼.
It sounds amazing, but I think that's personal preference. I thought the new 'Third Wave' synth sounded even better, but I think Hydrasynth wins on value for money in both cases.
@@wavesequencer I'm not " officially " on the pre-order list for the 3rd WAVE, but am awaiting the paper work ( email ) from Bob to make it official. They say first shipments are scheduled for mid August, and could even be a bit sooner than that. Between this and the OB-X8, I will be done buying for a long time. I really need a 12 step group and intervention. Seriously.
I sold my hydrasynth 49 for a Waldorf iridium. I love my iridium! However I did miss the hydra! It’s a beautifully designed instrument. If coconut chocolate pudding had a sound, this is it. I’m toying with trading my iridium desktop for an iridium keyboard version but for the same upgrade price I could just about afford a hydra delux. They are similar but sound distinctly different. The iridium is a lot more powerful but I’d Love to control it with hydra! Hmmmm!!! Here comes Santa Claus
Definitely. And these were just presets mostly, though I tweaked some a bit. Unfortunately you don’t get too much time on a show floor so you go with what’s there. But I think the possibilities with this one are off the charts.
If only they would add some way of making that interface work with VSTs (and let manufacturers/hobbyists put the glue together) that would be absolute killer and a total must have
@@yavamaystudio8045 yeah thats pretty good hardware integration, i use it with my system 1-m. but you're limited to whats on the front panel. with the hydra if you could tell it what text/cc to have on each page, depending on the VST that would be amazing. i hate fecking about with mice when doing music.
@frank saraceno I'd love to think so but it will never happen. even after all these years the audio software market is so hopelessly fragmented its an embarrassment. VSTs work. thats it. no coherent patch management with previews. Really annoys me, like its all an immature system

@@kierenmoore3236 some are - some are literally actual headless Steinberg format VST instruments usually running on a custom Linux build with a custom hosting app and hardware panel drivers. Others (most at the moment) are custom DSP(any embedded CPU) or hybrid FPGA/CPU implementations running on much less featured RTOSs. So no - not all digital synths are VST in a box.
If a digital synth uses an FPGA then it is not a VST in a box. It can render the waveforms at MHz frequency and then downsample to audio range to eliminate aliasing. Good luck doing that on a computer. Older digital synths were often dedicated chips per function, oscillators, filters, amp, they were not VSTs in a box either. When we moved to DSPs that when you could argue that.
@@6581punk Yes.. thankyou!... Being super pedantic here because I am a developer, but just because you have an FPGA doesn't mean it has to be running everything at super over-sampled rates - it's up to how you define the usage of it as a programmer.. it's just a very good/common use of FPGAs for synth implementations since they are great for that kind of parallel acceleration of voice processing. My own VST3/AU plugin (Hyperion synth) can run up to 32X oversampling on a modern PC/Mac without any issues (which technically would be mega-Hertz range internally before down-sampling) .
Summit is really cool too. They have a lot in common actually. Both sound great. Summit does not have the polyphonic aftertouch keybed or the ribbon controller though.
I would be elated to have either. A Summit just sounds good. A Hydra needs to be patiently dialed in. Thing is, it CAN be, though most of these online videos don't show that.
