Demis Roussos was a solo singer but he was also in the band 'Aphrodites child' together with Vangelis, also world famous with his synthesizer music. Nana Mouskouri was famous all over Europe, she sang in Greek but also sang in French and German. I think i still have some old LP records from my father's collection.
Both of them are legends. According to data from Universal Music Group, Nana Mouschouri has sold over 300 million records worldwide, recording approximately 1,500 songs in 15 languages and 450 albums. Over 230 of her records have gone gold and platinum, worl dwide. Demis Rusos at solo and with aphrodites childs has sold over 70 million records
This brought back memories for me. They were major stars in the sixties and seventies. They were big in Australia, especially in Melbourne, which has the largest Greek population of any city except Athens. My mother used to work for a wonderful Greek family who owned a cafe in our home town and she learned to speak some Greek while working there. You get a better idea of the quality of their voices when you listen to their individual performances. Nana has a very pure voice and was still performing in her eighties.

Demi Rousos (like Demi Moore) 1946-2015 Greek singer, sings folk-pop, folk-rock, rock and more. Has sold over 60 million albums. He came a sex symbol. He has done so much that it would take a while to list it.
Love Demis..... I'll have to pull out my old LP's..... saw him live in Melbourne back in the late '70's.... one of the best concerts I'd ever seen !! He does sing in English too.
This brings back many memories of my parents listening to these two. They where so very popular in Australia. Nana's most famous song I would say is "Till the white rose blooms again" and Demis' would be either "My friend the wind" or " Forever and Ever" Here is another duet of them but sung in English ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tCORdHnStC8.html
Omg man. This is a Greek song which I didn't request. Two legends! Nana is huge in Europe, Australia + Latin America, and Demiss is also big. They sings mostly other languages (not-including ). Very 1960s-80's style.
Both are very popular in Australia we have a large Greek community my youngest daughter's mother is Greek. The little vest you are wearing I have sewed it for you With bitterness and troubles I have put the lining Oh, I am scolding her (ante is an exclamatory word, especially in this case cannot be translated, so I am using the word "oh" instead. The subject of the verb is neutral, as the gender that the word "child" has in Greek for example, so it can be used for a woman or a man too. I am going to use a female gender in this case though. Oh, and then I am regretting it Oh, I am scolding him/her and I’m calling her names Oh, and I am breaking her little heart Wear it, my babe Wear it, my little one Because you are not going to wear it no more Wear it to be, (wear it) to remember me I have your curly hair as my silk I fell asleep and I leaned By the ship’s prow And came and woke me up The captain’s daughter Oh, and then I am regretting it Oh, I am scolding him/her and I’m calling her names Oh, and I am breaking her little heart Wear it, my babe Wear it, my little one Because you are not going to wear it no more Wear it to be, (wear it) to remember me I have your curly hair as my silk . Peace out.
Demis and Vangelis were in Aphrodite’s Child, a Greek pop group from the 1960s. They remained very close, with Demis lending vocals to a few of Vangelis’ works in the future, particularly “Tales of the Future,” part of the Blade Runner soundtrack. This is very well worth looking into. The lyrics for TOTF are made-up, no translation, a technique Vangelis used on a few tracks over the years (example: “Movement 4” from the album “Mask”).
Nana sang in many languages worldwide and it was all greek to most of her audiences bit it was the voice and interpretation people loved. A consumate artist for years.......
My folks gave me a Demis Roussos cassette tape when I was a wee lad thinking it was going to be his usual greek crooner stuff but where surprised when they discovered it was his probably one and only English rock album. I loved it because his voice was wicked cool. I didn't look for his music again until about 7 or 8 years ago and I ended finding the same record and was surprised by how much I still dug it. That dude had the most unique male voice I have ever heard.
Check Nana Mouschouri's colab with Miles Davis and Manos Hatzidakis(a greek composer who's been covered even from the Beatles) simply extraordinary! She covered all genres with such vocal range..About Demis Roussos he was in the prog group of Vangelis Papathanasiou (Aphrodite 's child) on vocals. Definitely one of the greatest voices you've heard with solo hits such as "Rain n tears" , "Souvenirs" and many others.Keep up with rare gems(for the American audience)👌😀
i have had this on my "summer BBQ" play list for years.. how random 😄 She sang in a lot of languages, her "Weiß Rosen auf Athen" in German is amazing. He did all sorts, ive a soft spot for his "Happy To be on an Island in the Sun"
Nana Mouskouri was very popular worldwide in her prime, she sold hundreds of millions of records (exact numbers are debated), was a super star in France, had her own show in England on the BBC during 8 years, … There is also a beautiful duet with Nana and Lara Fabian in 2012: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EQTo3ACXJgc.html
Το γελεκάκι που φορείς Το ´χω εγώ ραμμένο Με πίκρες και με βάσανα το ´χω φοδραρισμένο. Άντε το μαλώνω το μαλώνω ώμος γρήγορα το μετανοιώνω.... The little vest you are wearing- I sewed it myself. With tears and heartbreak, I have lined it. And when I start arguing I regret it immediately- and everything you say and everything you do it might kill me... I grew up with the Amphion Choir's version of this- my Mom's favorite album- lots of great songs. They made a very cool melody change imo but still it's the same song❤ And one more cool line: Για κλωστή μεταξύ ´χω βάλει τα μαλλιά μου... Which means and for its silken thread 🧵 I have used my own hair...
it's a love song about the true story of a modiste that fell in love with a musician (Spiros Ollandezos- the one that wrote the song in mid 20;s) and made for him as a present ...a vest! the lyrics are the words they spoke to each other when he wore the vest for the first time.
I love her "The White Rose from Athens" song, especially the German version, "Weisse Rosen Aus Athen". Demis and Nan are two of the greatest singers ever.
Dear Nick! I was happily (pleasantly) surprised to see that you are doing videos with Greek singers. I liked the video, but I believe that in order to fully appreciate the voice of Nana Mouskouri you will have to check some of her other songs. I believe that she is one of the best Greek singers, along with others (like Marinella, Haris Alexiou, Rena Koumioti, Eleni Vitali, Jenny Vanou, Vicky Moscholiou, Sofia Vossou, Glykeria, etc.) singing more of a country/ classic/ soft/ Jazz/ Pop/ Easy listening/ Folk/ Greek folk/ world music songs, similar to the style like American singer Joan Baez. She has also sung many songs in English, French, German, Dutch, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, etc. I believe that if you will hear some of the selected songs I put below, you will have a better opinion about the extent and the beauty of her voice. In addition, If it would be possible, make a video on Vicky Moscholiou. I believe she had one of the best female voices ever. I give you some examples below. Nevertheless, I really love that you are doing videos exploring songs from other countries. Great videos. Keep it up! SONGS Apologies, but for the first 2 I could not find English translations. The first one has the lyrics in Greek and you can use Google translate. The last 2 were sung in English. - Η ενδεκάτη εντολή (The 11th Amendment) - Νανά Μούσχουρη (Video 1985): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-anYsHL5BYFY.html - Nana Mouskouri - Enas Mithos (One Myth) - : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h3zgBv7u2w0.html - Nana Mouskouri - Everybody hurts: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YLZwBmQ5Hhw.html - Deep and Silent Sea - Nana Mouskouri : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z6lNuQ1Z6PY.html Vicky Moscholiou Songs (Sorry again, could not find with English subs)! - Βίκυ Μοσχολιού - Άνθρωποι μονάχοι (LONELY PEOPLE) | Vicky Moscholiou - Anthropoi monaxoi - Official Audio Release : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rTOVBwlJ0KE.html - Βίκυ Μοσχολιού - Χάθηκε το φεγγάρι (The moon is lost) [Πέτρα την πέτρα] [Stone by stone] 1964 : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KpPxRrZkI80.html Enjoy!

I was sad to see you stopped reacting to Steve Perry and Journey after you said you wanted to get into doing a lot more Journey. I enjoyed your reactions and how much you loved Steve Perry's voice, his range and the phenomenal talent of Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Steve Smith and Ross Vallory. Sorry I couldn't get into this song choice, but good luck in all you do. Peace
