Every character of Nana looks on the screen in a different way…His voice and his personality have a different throw…Nana Patekar is an acting school in itself….Whose RANGE has no answer…From EMOTIONAL scene to Nana Patekar gives life to all the characters, whether he makes him a don or an innocent role, from a romantic character to a strong action scene.
Apart from Irrfan Khan, Nana is the only actor to have won awards in three acting categories. He received Filmfare for Best Supporting Actor for Parinda (1990), Best Villain for Angaar (1992) and Best Actor for Krantiveer (1995).
Nana's acting range makes him special, everyone is sure that whatever role Nana takes up, he will make it special. Till date Nana was neither given the title of Hero, nor Villain, nor Comedian nor Side Hero, Nana was also honored with Padma Shri. The biggest award of his life for Nana, who has been honored with so many awards, is such a diary which is special for the whole of Bollywood.
Nana was a big fan of Satyajit Ray from the beginning, when he entered the field of acting, he had only one dream to act under the direction of Satyajit Ray. Unfortunately, Nana's dream was cut short when Satyajit Ray died in 1992. A few days later, someone told Nana that in Satyajit Ray's personal diary, Ray had written something about Nana… When Nana wanted to know, he came to know that "Satyajit Ray wanted to work with Nana Patekar. These lines of Ray were Sanjivani for Nana after the biggest dream of life was broken. Nana admitted in one of his special interviews that this one line written for him in Satyajit Ray's diary is bigger than all the awards and honors in his life.
Nana wanted to do a film with Satyajit which would be remembered for years. Satyajit Ray's last Hindi film was Shatranj Ke Khiladi. The lead role in this film was played by Sanjeev Kumar, after the death of Sanjeev, Nana was the only actor who focused on playing character roles instead of building the hero's image. At the time when Om Puri and Naseer Saheb were explaining the difference between real cinema and commercial cinema in Hindi cinema, Nana Patekar was the bridge between class and commercial.
A director who is no more in the world, from whom there is no business profit, Nana, who considered one line written by that director as the biggest award in his life, never worried about not getting an image or work.
Nana did less films but in most of the films, the role played by Nana is imprinted in the minds of the audience. Nana has a close understanding of cinema, due to which he rejected many weak films in his career, but working on his own terms, Nana has achieved that position, around which only Manoj Bajpayee is currently seen.
Nana was never averse to commercial cinema, all he wanted was a strong role in a good story. When he took on the role of Uday Shetty in Anees Bazmee's Welcome, everyone was wondering how Nana, who has been playing serious roles till now, would play the loud character in this masala film. But the way the pairing of Uday and Majnu with Anil Kapoor won the hearts of the audience is unmatched.
Nana has always tried to give something new and different to his fans, hardly any actor can switch genres with such speed and skill. Nana's expression in Welcome, and his timing with Anil Kapoor immortalized the pair.
Nana chooses films very responsibly… Even today people keep repeating the spoken dialogues of Nana Patekar. As a great actor, Nana Patekar played his main character in films, each of his films was worth watching. He is still associated with the Indian film industry, and is doing great work.
