When I was really young (16-17 years ago) I never actually beat this game or knew anything about the ending, but I vividly remember having a dream where Shorty was evil, trying to get me, and the location of the dream was eerily similar to the final location of the game. It was in some weird elevated rocky cliffside room. I didn't even have access to the internet when I had the dream so it's not like I ever watched the ending online or knew anything about it, so I think it's insane how my dream all those years ago was so similar to the actual ending. Really bizarre. It's also funny how I have this vivid memory I think is so crazy but this is the first ever time I've ever had an opportunity to share it with people who would even understand what I'm talking about lol
I guess checking girth and getting yelled at about very specific horse knowledge lost it's entertainment value 🤷♂️ and let's not forget the awesome multi-colored puzzles 👀
I honestly love this one BUT I think it’s because it’s fun to replay. First playthrough can be rough but once you know what to look for, it’s a lot easier and you can focus on the story more.
Your suffering from this game has finally ended. at least you just one game away from Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon which is a pretty good one, and I can say that cause back when I played these games when I was a kid I always needed to look through a Walkthrough in order to progress, but Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon I was able to beat with ease without the need of a walkthrough.
I personally like this game, but I can definitely see why it didn't click with you. The search for Dirk's treasure is one big wild goose chase, and the chores (especially the crop picking) are terrible. Looks like it's Secret of the Old Clock next time Nance comes around. bit of an odd one, but its a really nice aesthetic. I eagerly await the day you get to Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon.
Have yet to watch this part, but I have felt SO validated by how much you haven't vibed with this game. I never played it as a kid, but went back to try it out during college, and for the life of me, I just could not understand why it is so universally beloved. The chores are absolutely abysmal to get through and the rest of the game simply doesn't make up for how many there are and how much they drag the game to a halt. That and the obvious flaws you pointed out yourself (if the snake attack was in the bedroom, why the hell can't we go there and snoop???) are just too much for me. I don't think it's the worst in the series at all, but I've always considered it very low tier :(
Every time someone yells at Nancy for not doing something right I also want to yell that if it's so important, maybe don't give the job to a random newbie!
1:26:00 I kinda miss hummus. When I first started my job at a grocery store it was all I ate for 2 out of 3 meals. For at least a month. Hummus on an everything bagel. It's been 3 years and I can't even look at hummus 😂
Been listening to these vods while working, and today has been extra frustrating for a number of reasons. So i laughed really hard when Ian said what'd you call me? After reading the letter mentioning agates. I could see a few changes making this game much less of a headache, like making Tex somewhat likable. Or make the chorse less, nancy MUST do it or else she'll be thrown out and more like shes actually doing them a favor that they appreciate
It seems with every Nancy Drew game, I always have to think back to another Nance game that I didn't care for or didn't like and wonder, 'Maybe that Nance game wasn't really that bad', when compared to this. The setting here was fine, but like Ian, I'm not really into horses. I also didn't care about the characters (Shorty was creepy BLECH and Tex was a hard ass), some puzzles looked fun, some were so convoluted. I swear the end of the game was just more puzzles padded on, just to make it harder to finish. Some of the music was good, some were out of place. If there were less chores, I'd probably like it fine, but as is...MAN! Maybe I'll check the Blackmoor Manor VOD again. I know I liked that one.
I'm not even 1/5 the way through this vod and I just KNOW Ian's going to have a bad time time at the end. That manuvering haunted mine and my siblings' childhood
i played all the ND games last winter in a depression rut and i liked this one ok except for the time tax every time you wanted to travel anywhere, having to do the whole saddle thing EVERY time im sure the horse girls loved the immersion, alas i was never a horse girl
I thought it was weird everyone kept saying this is the best Nance... When my boyfriend and I got to it, I was like omg this is so tedious, Ian is going to hate it. The only part I liked is the end because the villain is such a creeper. We were laughing so hard trying to run from him. But sadly Ian was so done with the game by that point, we got pretty much no reaction to the creepiness. 😂 I dont blame him, but that was a bummer lol.
It seems that an issue with some Nancy Drew games, this one for sure, is that the first go through is especially tedious or convoluted but the subsequent playthroughs are a lot smoother and more fun.
This game feels like it has waaay too much busywork and, ironically enough for a mystery game, way too many puzzles. It all just feels like fluff to draw the game out as long as possible. Doesn’t help that some of the gameover states feel pretty dumb in this game. :/ Hope the next Nancy game is less of a chore for you, Ian
Is there alternate bad guys on each playthrough? Because with how there’s never connections with who the mastermind is it really is like they could have a new character each time.
I do not apologize for hinting to check your email. It shouldve been built into the game in the first place. I would never normally hint but I sincerely believe it was purely covering a blatant design flaw.
The phone lighting up with a ! mark is the signal that new content is available on the phone (same as with the notebook and inventory), he just never picked up on that.
@@kvweber design wasnt very good back then. it lights up but doesnt show exactly whats new or where it is. obviously its like the animal feed where u just assume bc the game/world doesnt explain enough 2 u.
I’m so amused but sad Ian hated this game because I’m one of the people who’s favorite nance games includes this one 😂 The story line and ambience /location setting is just so good. 😢
secret of the old clock fucking sucks and I'm worried a twofer of bad nance games will turn Ian off of the series but god last train to blue moon canyon has such good characters and setting and puzzles that hopefully we make it there. And even this one is better than any of the newer ones so there's that
One of my favorite games that everyone else hates is Hypnospace Outlaw. I think you would like it. Everyone loves this Nancy game it sucks but I’m here for this madness. I liked the Movie Theater one and the Treasure in the Royal tower one as a kid a whole lot.
Ngl I like complexity of Dirk being proven dickhead who killed people probably but also in Love with Frances. But I agree I didnt like this game much and was deeply frustrated with it lol.
WHO...WHO considers this one of the best Nancy games???????? It was just awful. I guess if you're a weirdo who is obsessed with Western theming and horses. But the setting, the unlikable characters...the fact that 90% of it was just a chore simulator. The insanely stupid ways you could get a game over. Watching this was honestly kinda miserable. Power to iAN to getting through it.
