People are stupid. Of course she is in pain (she has just been assaulted) but she is screaming "why" because her dream and ambition, something she has been working so hard towards, has just potentially been taken from her. Love the online brains trust, as always.
Devin Peirce Nancy never stooped that low & said someone should've broke Tanya's leg. She has class & wouldn't associate with lowlife empty failures in life who would do or think about doing something like that. How low must a person's self-esteem be to do that or think like that? Gotta be real low you know brother. Good shit
Matt C Well it can be a career, after the Olympics Nancy went on to make millions by making commercials for Reebok, Revlon, Campbell's soup, etc. Plus because she was famous, she did some ice skating specials. So it can be a career, especially if you went to the Olympics and win anything, which she won the Silver. Dorothy Hamil did some commercials for Toyota and some shampoo that was popular in the 70's.
creaturelover sandtoesandjam it wasn't fake, but I could maybe see why people would think it looked fake. I mean idk when she was saying "why" it looked like their were no tears whatsoever. and she would go from making those crying noises to answering the paramedics questions pretty calm and normal like.
she was probably in shock. you don't immediately cry when something like this happens. I've been hurt to the point of laughing before and people probably thought I was crazy but the pain was so severe my body reacted in the only way it could at the time. I think she is crying "why"? because all her dreams were dashed.
iZionTV You don't think the attempted sabotage of a young woman's career is funny? WHERE'S YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR *he says in an extremely sarcastic voice*
I don't understand why people think this is funny. She wasn't just screaming "Why" because the pain, but also because she was just robbed of doing something she worked so hard for. Something she LIVED for. I'd like to see how others would handle it, seeing as everyone seems to think they would have handled it so much better.
Not only that... but being attacked by a stranger for what appears to be no reason, of COURSE you're going to be screaming "WHY." She didn't know that man. She didn't know why she was attacked. It wasn't until later everything came to light. She was America's freakin' ice darling. It's not outside the realm of reason that in that instant, she literally couldn't fathom why anybody would do such a heinous thing to her when she never hurt anybody.
I can't imagine what she went through...as a athlete I would be so devastated as well. You put in so much effort, live and breathe the sport for all your hard work to be taken away from that by someone else...it's heartbreaking
I don't know if it's just these days. IIRC many found it funny back in '94 as well, although my being in middle school at the time probably skews the sample population a bit.
Oh God, I remember watching this when I was a kid. It was so sad to watch back then and it still is. Nancy Kerrigan was living every little girl's dream!
Lioness Es I remember that too. I was in sixth grade if I recall correctly. That was horrible. She didn't deserve that at all. She could have very well won the gold. Yes, she rallied from the injury enough to win the silver (Btw, congratulations from me to Ms. Kerrigan). But I clearly feel that she could've very easily won that gold.
As somebody who has seen people in distress in my job, I think her reaction is exactly the way it would go. She tries to interrupt her personal emotional rollercoaster to try and give any info on the perp possible. And if you didn't expect it, and somebody had stalked you down and smacked you with a police batton, you'd probably only remember the weapon, too. It's what you look at and focus on in that situation.
To those of you who think it's funny, why don't you try getting your knee smashed with a metal bar or whatever the heck he used. It hurts like crazy to even hit your knee on anything accidentally, and not only that, but imagine how many thousands of hours she put into training for this.
Yellow4494 I fell (and landed) on my knee on hard concrete off a large fence. It hurt, yes, but I didn't scream in pain or cry. I just grit my teeth and dealt with it with some bandages. Oh, and yes. I do find this funny.
Codename: Potato it's not just about the physical pain it's about the mental pain. Would you like it if you spent hours and hours training for all of it to be ruined by a few crazy people who don't want you to win? I don't think you would! You may have seen her crying but that was not because of how bad the pain in her knee was it was because she knew that her whole dream and future was ruined. I had the dream of being a gymnast but I fell off of the beam while trying to practise my ariel on it and now I am not allowed to do gymnastics because I twisted my spine. I was lucky not to be paralysed. If you have any future goals and somebody (or yourself) ruined them I don't think you would be happy!
@@codenamepotato7279 Her knee cap got shattered, how could you dare compare that to your little fall. She also trained so hard! Unless you know what it's like to train 24/7 and compete with eveything at stake, don't be obnoxious.
"back then" fuck, I'm getting old... And btw, there was surveillance back then it's only 1994 not 1970, shit! Although you're probably like 15 so 1994 is like 100 years ago in your eyes
They're making a sarcastic remark about the fact that there wasn't any surveillance of the attack, no need to get butthurt over your age. I guess sarcasm wasn't invented back in your day gramps
I don't think you are educated on the history that conspired from this event. "All that training for nothing", makes no sense. She won the silver medal in the Olympics that season. What Tanya Harding did along with all the others involved was terrible, but Nancy's training did pay off. Read up on the event and become educated about it..
***** I know what you mean, but look. With "all that training for nothing" I mean, she was given so much hard training for all this, then she was hit by a man. Maybe she would be a star today for ice-skating. That's what I mean.
The training wasn't for nothing. She went to olympics just a few weeks later and won silver. And Tonya is crazy person who planned that attack and was a whiny brat from the time she started skating she was talented but her success was as erratic as her personality lol
OH i KNOW RIGHT!!! totally why the under dog was robbed it so sucks when you allowed others opinions to influence your own. I am so glad I didnt stay stuck on stupid. sockshare.net/watch/qd7yg2xK-i-tonya.html
She's not even crying. "Why, Why, Why?" I've never seen or heard anyone in real pain do that, ever. Her knee was "badly" bruised, but, however, no pictures ever surfaced. Also, one would think as an ice skater, she had taken far worse tumbles on the ice.
DetectiveJuice Yo douche, there are all kinds of videos on the internet of people being hurt. Show me one video where someone sits and screams after an attack, "why, why, why," dumb ass. Why why why why why why oh, why why why!
It scared the shit out of her. It caught her off guard. And she did get hurt. However, people get tore up skating, too. The entire scene was blown out of proportion. My bias is that I can't stand it when people get hurt and completely exaggerate the pain to get attention.
The worse part is all that hard work gone to waste. It’s horrible to laugh about. Working restlessly for something you’ve always dreamt of having just to get it taken away.
I y a n a You are so right but you gotta remember that people who would laugh @this are failures who can't comprehend the work it takes to be great! I feel so bad for those empty people. It's hard to converse with people like that cause they are so broken inside & need help. That insecurity must be as painful as it looks
@@itsjemmabond ikr I feel so bad she didn’t even lose her leg I feel the pain tonya will feel in her hospital when she’s older when she might be gone feeling she didn’t achieve her dream
Karma got Harding. She failed miserably and embarrassingly at the 94 Olympics, even with the aid of cheating. Meanwhile Ms. Kerrigan skated her way practically to Gold. It was a well deserved Silver for her.
Obviously Harding setting up the assault is what is being referenced to here. Nobody is saying harden actually hit Nancy, just that she orchestrated the attack. She was so jealous & self doubting that she had to try & get Nancy taken out of the competition cause she knew even @her best she could not compete on Nancy's level. So cowardly
Not sure what it takes to find something like this 'hilarious'. Must be poor upbringing or lack of positive role models. She got booted in the ankle with a crowbar. ...hello? Humanity? Do you people find 9/11 funny too? Curious to know x
i’m a $uicideBoy$ fan and had stumbled across a song a while ago, it’s called If Self- Destruction Was an Olympic Event, I’d Be Tonya Harding, i didn’t memorize it or even remeber the title i had to search for the song. but at the end there’s a women crying and i always wondered who it was and why she was crying. then just this morning i stumbled up on a tiktok ab tonya and ms. kerrigans thing and what are the odds i decided to watch the whole tiktok series ab it right. then i was like okay i’ll look it up on youtube, and then i hear her screaming and immediately recognized it then i went looking for the song because i had no clue which one it was cuz i just listen to all their songs on repeat through the day and can’t- anyways. i found it and then i was like okay what’s the name, and it said olympic and i was like ong does it say nancy and it said tonya harding and having just seen the tiktok as well i know what tonya harding did to herself pretty much like holy moly what are the odds this all fucking happened to me just now 💀
like now i know who the screams are and why like what are the odds after i find the song cuz i’ve heard of the story before but i have a bad memory and didn’t really care to remember but now i have a memory made hahah around it
That's just silly. First of all, "I, Tonya" doesn't really villify Kerrigan at all. It just paints her as the quintessential perfect ice princess from a nice family... which she WAS. I mean, watch old footage of Kerrigan's performances - She wasn't just technically flawless... every move was deliberate and graceful and beautiful. She looked like pure poetry in motion just by lifting her arm, ffs. Nancy Kerrigan didn't deserve at ALL what happened to her... and the movie never ONCE suggests that she does. It doesn't impune Kerrigan's character at all. All it does is go into Harding's backstory, what was really going on, things we weren't privy to at the time... I wouldn't say it even portrays Harding in a very sympathetic light, tbh. But it does give more information about what she was going through and what actually happened. The tragedy no one ever wants to talk about is how Tonya Harding will be paying for this attack as though she committed it herself for the rest of her life, while her ex and his slob friend who actually physically caned Nancy in the knees were allowed to just do their time and slip into obscurity, living their lives.
The "why" was not only for the actual assault but probably because the potential loss of a dream that was basically just stolen from her (which is why it was done in the first place). I bet if this had been a football player receiving a normal game-related injury, people would have more sympathy. But even if this was fake tears and crys, it was a legitimate assault with a deadly weapon so she had every right to respond hysterically, "fake", or any way she pleased.
I remember this back then, and it was big. Just think, Nancy Kerrigan might have had the opportunity to win the gold medal if it wasn't for Tonya Harding and her thug boyfriend and his "friends". If Nancy was at 100% full strength, I think she would have won gold. But we'll never know because of Tonya Harding and her "associates". I despised Tonya back then when it happened, and I still do because she won't admit guilt. She's never said she's sorry, or repented for what she allowed to happen, even now that she's older. How stubborn do you have to be to never admit the truth, even till your death!
Not true Thomas. I believe some conspiracies exist but don't think this is fake. I judge each situation on merit and do not have a desire for everything to be a conspiracy. There are indeed folk who are like you say, and for them it is like a religion. However not everyone who subscribes to some conspiracies fit the extreme model you mention. The issue isn't black and white, a wise man knows the world contains many shades of grey. The reality is that some conspiracies in this world do exist, to believe otherwise is extremely naive. Those who believe either white or black, namely that there really are no conspiracies in this world (like yourself) or that everything is a conspiracy, both have a religion.
@@NoRegerts she wasn’t lol it wasn’t even her it was Shawn Eckhardt who planned the attack and then her ex husband Jeff Gillooly who found out and hid it from her. She wasn’t involved in the attack
That’s so scary. Cannot imagine minding my own business and some random man hitting me outta nowhere in a dark hall. On top of that, so close to the Olympics. So messed up.
People think that this was the most horrible thing to ever happen in any sport but people keep forgetting the fact that she was back training within a couple of weeks. This wasn't any worse than anyone of you getting a sprained ankle and recovering for a week or two. She was attacked in January of 1994 and won the silver medal in the Olympics in February. Sure, it was a rotten thing to do but it was still completely blown out of proportion by the media.
Fond3ll - Chiptunes & Game Music Remixes! I think it wasn`t about the consequences for her carreer - you should consider it was sheer luck she didn`t receive any fatal injuries ending her career forever - but more about the fact that a professeional athlete would actually come up with such an unbelievable mean spirited plan. Well, it was also one of the most backfiring plans in history of sports cheating ...
Ulfhedn4r - Fakebit Music Dude, it's not just about how extensive the injury was, it's about the fact that someone deliberately tried to SABOTAGE her and keep her from competing. THAT is what was horrible. The act in and of itself of trying to take out competition is the most selfish, unsportsmanlike thing.
Wait..so a person gets assaulted with a crowbar and its blown out of proportion!!! So, you'd have her murdered then??? "HEY I IT YOU WITH A 25 POUND WEIGHT, SO WHATS THE BIG DEAL!! DERP DERPDERP"
Ultraman619 i know right that sound like it hurts bad what if he would have hit her in the head that's crazy it could have been different this was really bad im here because i just finish watching it on TV.
yeah I remember being in 3rd grade sick from the flu on the couch & on the toilet while this was blasting all over the house when I wanted to watch Nickelodeon. Good times lol
Tall white guy in a jjacket. The guy shouldn't have been difficult to find in Detroit one would think lol I'm sure he'd stick out, sort of like saying oh a big black guy in Beverly Hills lol
jdspreest Eminem, Kid Rock, ICP, Kiss. some of the biggest music names from Detroit are white. and there's plenty of white people there. bit who cares anyway
tonya really fucked up. she had everything going for her and she ruined it over a silly enemy. they were both amazing skaters who deserved everything they worked for but one of them had to ruin it for themselves
tonya wasnt the one who did it tho, her husband wanted to take out Nancy of he competition so that Tonya could win, Tonya told him not to do it but he still did it..
I ask the same question from 0:35 to 0:40. I may not feel any physical pain, but the pain I am feeling inside of me emotionally cannot be described. Today has been one of the worst days of my whole life and right now I am having one of the worst nights of my life! I am broken! I have not felt so much emotional pain inside of me since the days where my relatives died.
These bullied did that to me as a young teenager who hates disabled people like myself lynn deatherage and I was clubbed hard for me Lynn because of some of my bullies didn't want me to get me kicked out of the skate park 🏞 but I got hit went down hard on ground and John Ryan saw and my mom. I now have arthritis in both knees.
Was that Tonya Harding at 1:42 giving her "eyewitness" testimony? If so, I'm appalled at her temerity and nerve by pretending to be just an innocent bystander when she was the one responsible for planning it.
Saw the documentary and Nancy's interview with Costas afterwords and it looks like they are both tired of the entire thing and rightly so. I looked all three of them Nancy Kerrigan, Tonya Harding and Oksana Baiul up on wikipedia and they have had nothing but drama since.
This was like the sports equivalent of President Reagan being shot in 1981; that and the Nancy Kerrigan attack would be seen ad nauseam around the world.
Why do people feel bad for Nancy when Tonya had beatings all her life? And yes, I've just watched I, Tonya. It's very eye-opening about what's happening behind the tulles and skates.
Há uns 3 meses, levei um tombo e bati os dois joelhos no chão. Foi uma dor terrível, meus joelhos doíam e queimavam. Não sabia o que fazer, quase chorando. E foi um tombo, não uma paulada.
why do i recall the news reporting that she was stabbed repeatedly with a knife? this is the first i heard of nany kerrigan being attacked with a crowbar
i remember this i felt so upset for her how or why did this happen because tanya harding wasnt as confident and good as nancy she knew it.envy is an ugly thing
She was saying why because some RANDOM DUDE that she DIDN'T KNOW just ran up and HIT HER WITH A PIPE. That was just random. There was no way for her to even fathom at that moment WHY someone would DO that. You folks are talking about her worried about her career, I'm thinking that her mind could not process WHY some random stranger that she didn't know would just run up out of nowhere and DO that to her. She was stunned and in shock and her brain was asking WHY? WHY would someone do that, what just happened, what's going on? She was confused and repeating why because that's what confused, horrified people do.
Don't get me wrong, this was horrible and no one should be attacked like that, but guys, NOTHING was taken away from her. She went weeks later to the olympics at Lillehammer and took silver (because Oksana Baiul performed better... With a fresh leg injury I'd add)
