The clear, cool tones of Nancy Viera’s voice bring a fresh wave of influences to the classic morna style of Cape Verde. Born in Bissau, she grew op in Cape Verde’s capital Praia, before moving to Portugal where her father - a former musician who had once played with Cesária Évora but who had relinquished all to become an activist in the independence struggle - was Cape Verdean ambassador. While studying at Lisbon University she won a song contest, resulting in her first album in 1996. True to her relaxed style, she took her own time to make a career, only turning professional with her third release, Lus, in 2007. We're happy to welcome her again in 2024.

Het heldere, koele timbre van Nancy Viera's stem geeft de klassieke morna-stijl van Kaapverdië in een verfrissende tint. Ze werd geboren in Guinee Bissau, groeide op in Kaapverdië, in de hoofdstad Praia en verhuisde vervolgens naar Portugal, waar haar vader - een voormalig muzikant die ooit met Cesária Évora had gespeeld, maar zijn carrière opgaf om actief te worden in de onafhankelijkheidsstrijd - ambassadeur was van Kaapverdië. Tijdens haar studie aan de Universiteit van Lissabon won ze een zangwedstrijd, wat resulterende in haar eerste album in 1996. Ontspannen als ze is nam ze rustig de tijd om haar carrière te ontwikkelen. Deze werd pas professioneel met haar derde cd, Lus, in 2007. Sindsdien toert ze de wereld over met haar kwalitatief hoogwaardige band.
