Your father has been an inspiration to me. Even to this day I tell people that there's a person in Canada who does fantastic Nito Kendo and they should follow his footsteps. I mean, the reason why I'm here is to forward this video to a friend who does Nito!

I’m a current student of your father and he is an amazing teacher and kendoka! Cheers!

Glad that you liked it. This video footage was taken 12+ years ago, Eiga sensei is now nana-dan (7th degree) and Raymond sensei is roku-dan (6th degree). I am sure if they re-match today it will be very different. (Also, this was team match so the strategies they took were not the same as when they do as individual)

8th and 7th now I believe, Raymond sensei is my teacher and I've watched as many of Eiga sensei's seminars I could find. An excellent match that really shows each of their spirit. Thank you for sharing 🙇‍♂️

wow! such combativity! I could feel the exhaustion of the nito-ka at the end X^)

That’s the thing about nito players, they spend so much time in tying up their opponent that it makes for quite bad kendo. It goes against the very basis of Kendo.

I was referring to the nasty punch at exactly 4:48 - 4:49 followed by what seems to be another punch. I have had an opportunity to see a nito kendoka once in my life :(, so i'm not exactly judging this. I don't understand how a taiatari is supposed to be done in nito, so i can't figure out what is going on here. It seems like an illegal punch, the second one looks especially deliberate, but i could be completely wrong.

Yes definitely wrong punches
@penttikoivuniemi2146
@penttikoivuniemi2146 4 года назад
I'd hardly call those punches, he was just trying to push Eiga out since they were at the edge of the shiaijou. Since he couldn't do it in those two pushes, the judge brought them back to the center.

I don't do nito so I don't want to comment on how "correct" it is; but that specific cut you are referring to was invalid because it didn't hit the men (was on the metal ribs).

It was Teramoto Sensei who got hachi-dan this year.

Why is that? Raymond is a 6 dan well known for his Nito. It's not like he doesn't know how to do it well.

That was a good match. I mean they are obviously not 8 dan kendoka, but it's nice to see the advantages and disadvantages to nito.

Brutto shiai .. a mio parere traspare da questo video che Raymond cercava sempre di restare vicinissimo a Eiga sensei in modo tale che nessuno dei due potesse portare il colpo cosi da arrivare a un conveniente pareggio per il canadese

Noisy spectators. If spectators were noisy like this in Japan, they would be scolded and shut out.

WTF was that! The person from Canada was super pushy! Last time I did this one of my Sensei's nearly tossed me off my ass, lol! Good match to watch, though!

how correct was his nito at this point? That uppercut at 4:48 seems illegitimate.

There were no points. They have colours - red and white - and there is a point if ref raises a flag of certain colour. If he doesn't, the fight is on (these funny clinches exsist because is hard to get a point, and at the same time grappling is forbidden)

It was a draw. This is team competition so there is no over time.
