Naomi was introduced by FAO to vegetables that were are more marketable locally compared to the broccoli she was initially growing. Her message to youth: agriculture is a business, you can be self-employed and earn the income you want!
Funded through the generous contribution of the Government of Italy, the project on “Rural Youth Migration, Social Protection & Local Value Chain Development” is designed to address the root causes of rural youth out-migration by creating more and improved employment and entrepreneurship opportunities in agri-business. The project, which is being implemented in Kiambu County, focuses on creating alternatives to migration for youth by strengthening their entrepreneurial skills and promoting adopting of good agricultural practices for increased productivity and profitability; while also harnessing the potential of migration and social protection for value chains and agriculture development through remittances and productive investments in agriculture.
