Watts is a good actress and no fool, she got vexed because she KNOWS it's a crap film. She knows she would have been better off turning down the role but she did not and here she is, trying to defend it and not really prepared to. The director has said the reason the film got such a negative reaction in the UK is because 'we have not got over her death'. No, it's because his film sucks.
@BCS1105

Most actors put all their blood, sweat and tears into a film and when it turns out to be awful, it probably really, really sucks. She’s a truly amazing actress, Mulholland Drive proves that 1000%, but when you are dealing with a film that is all around awful, bad direction, bad script, bad everything, even if you were the greatest actor/actress of all time, you can’t save a titanic of a film, you just can’t and that probably sucks as you are the face of the film and blame is partly shifted to you, it’s sad.
@Starkardur

Naomi Watts has been doing a lot of crap lately and to think she thinks Tank girl is awful and doesn't want to talk about it, it's not near as bad as some of her other choices, recent ones that is.

"We have to invent some of it to create something that's worth putting on film" says it all really, doesn't it?. Simon's questions were hardly Jeremy Paxman style were they? Watts sounds ill at ease before the interview got under way but she really should have considered that before getting involved in such an ill-advised turkey.

Sounded like she was caught off-guard by Simon's intelligent and valid questions. I suspect this was because she had done many interviews prior to Simon's where possibly the most taxing question was "what's your favourite member of One Direction."

She says she was struggling with the decision to do it before making it, and already at the start of the interview she sounds somewhat reticent. I suspect the disastrous reviews have convinced her that she's made a mistake. From what I've seen of the movie, it certainly doesn't look good; it looks like an over-the-top spoof of the Diana we saw during the Bashir interview. I suspect she might be on the defensive, and automatically assuming that everyone is attacking her, even when they're not.

Its clear why the interview ended so abruptly. Mayo asked if she had permission to film outside Kensington Palace and she obviously didn't but, caught off guard for a moment, claimed she did. Then, realising that she was going to be caught in a lie, she ended the interview.

Having listened to the interview a few times, Ms Watts seems to be fairly defensive all the way through but it's the point where Simon mentions the fact that she called the press that she really gets very defensive and the tone changes. It goes downhill from there.

Probably because the movie turned out bad and she is not pleased with it and now she has to talk to people on british radio about the speculations and the controversy. She may have felt that she made the wrong decision to do this movie and that the interviewer asked some tough questions
@Bad_At_Parties
@Bad_At_Parties 2 года назад
Very strange. The only thing I could read into it was that Naomi was already feeling the pressure of the bad reviews of the film, which she took part in with the best of intentions, and went into the interview thinking she was going to be handed questions that were more pointed than usual, meaning she was already in a place to become upset. Maybe she then took Simon's questions about the film's accuracy, the "walking on egg shells" that exists in discussing Diana to this day or his curiosity about the filmmakers getting permission for filming certain aspects of the real story as him questioning the movie's authenticity or her own integrity in taking the role. Don't understand how that could be, as Simon wouldn't hurt a fly, but maybe she just isn't used to British dialects or speaking.

She saw Simon’s questions as passive aggressive, criticism of her work when Simon I’m sure definitely didn’t mean this to be so.. Seems to be a “Lost in translation” interview I think she also probably knew it wasn’t the best interpretation of Diana or Spencer either

Someone was evidently conferring with her in the background at 7m20 ('Can you hear the question?') and after 8m30...I have a feeling this was just a case of her stumbling her way through a bad connection and getting defensive as a result. I've seen another interview with her talking about the film and she does seem very nervous and struggles to get her point across with any confidence. Well you can tell that Watts' confidence has been shaken and that she regrets taking on the role. Her performance in the interview was terrible; she comes across as having only a superficial understanding of the character she portrays, but I'm sure that she did have some insights, she just hasn't succeeded in translating them onto the screen. Mayo did his best, he was even complimentary, but the fact is it's a dud and there's no escaping that.

I don't know why you're surprised that she finished the interview. There was such mania about this person when she died, and such idolatry, that the whole country was temporarily (but effectively) overthrown by a totalitarian reaction to people who spoke against her. Papers wouldn't publish opposing articles, and there were actual journalists who'd been asked to take a week off to make way for mawkish Diana-supporters. Sentimental in the most feeble way, and quite worrying in terms of what rights were taken away as a result. The new Oscar bait looks like that.
