There is no ‘fall’. They just massively overachieved last season. Sold off Mertens and Insigne, the players who basically kept them going for nearly a decade, and even fans expected them to be midtable at best. Spaletti made the difference for that squad, him leaving plus the unrest in the dressing room naturally caused a lot of problems.

They are missing Kim in defence big time also a bit of bad luck hit the post 3 times and some great saves by Frosinone goal keeper and a questionable disallowed goal if Napoli would have scored first it would have been a totally different game they will find their way

The coach is a learner, should started his best team and after they've scored like 2 goals he can then withdraw them and put non regular players to seal off the winning but he did it the other way. The Frosinone coach understand this tactics and took the advantage.

Can't see any comment bringing up that the top-teams never ever prioritize Coppa Italia. I think it is lowest of all competition they participate in, and they do participate in so much more than lower standing teams in Serie A so it makes sense that lower standing teams have a much higher chance in Coppa Italia.

The state of the current Napoli team is solely on the ownership and most specifically their President De Laurentis with his 2 poor choices of managers. I know Mazzari has just been named a few weeks back but he is slipping as a manager and this team is too much of a big hat for him. Vincenzo Italiano would have been a better fit as tactically he plays the same attractive attacking football in either 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 with Fiorentina!!

Serie A e Coppa Italia sono tornei molto diversi. Questi risultati non sono per niente rari nelle partite di Coppa in tutte le nazioni che giocano questo tipo di torneo. Vedi FA Cup in Inghilterra per esempio dove le grandi a volte perdono clamorosamente contro squadre di Division 1 o 2 (cioé di serie B e C).
