9:12 "he also runs the cult that I'm, um, in. I remember I'm the high priestess, and it's a surrealist cult, that is completely centered around bureaucracy so you can never do anything because you're constantly doing paperwork" has to be one of the truly weirdest things I've ever heard in my life, and her nor Nardwuar even react to it LOL.
What she said is literally the summary of a book called The Trial by Franz Kafka. The theme is surrealism which is another word for absurdity and the novel takes place in a world that is so exaggeratedly run by bureaucracy that the point of the novel is to make you uncomfortable and annoyed that nothing is able to be done and the character is being dribbled back and forth within authority.
It's impressive that 8 years in the future she would have a kid named like an android, whose father is an eccentric billionaire that produces rockets, all of this happening in the middle of a global pandemic and global economic collapse because a guy in China ate a bat. The times we live in, man.
Yeah and Elon Musk spreading misleading articles on corona and threatening to unemploy thousands people because they aren't working in a middle of a pandemic.
I love most things about Grimes, but I particularly love the fact she's generally so shy and uncertain and rambley BUT THEN when she's asked a direct question about the very point of doing all this - "Why should people care about Grimes?", she comes up with such an instant and confident answer.
chilly yilly I just don't like it when royalty is used to positively describe something, I don't have anything against Grimes. Same when people say "boss", bosses suck, and so does royalty.
I remember watching this interview religiously when I was like 16...I didn't even think she was odd, she so compelling and uniquely herself...her music shaped so much of my teenage years. She wasn't wrong about Grimes being the future of music as well... her aesthetic and indie pop style has influenced mainstream artists sooo much in the past 5 years
@@johnjjohningtoniii2439 She wasn't privileged at this point. She was a self-made artist who produced her own music and album art. She grinded out touring to make her money far before meeting Elon.
@@napalmsf dude grimes is so cool. She’s gone through so much and been so strong, plus she has a unique personality, is extremely creative and makes lit music
When she mentioned the “cult” she’s in, her description of it is literally the summary of a book called The Trial by Franz Kafka. The theme is surrealism which is another meaning for psychedelic absurdity and the novel takes place in a world that is so exaggeratedly run by bureaucracy that the point of the novel is to make you uncomfortable and annoyed that nothing is able to be done and the character is being dribbled back and forth within authority.
Yes! Since she's signed with jay z now she's gonna have so much promo and I can't wait but I also want to keep the fan base at it's size but I'm ready for her to explode!
Bubbles Britney Bratz!!! It's refreshing to see a fan of a great but under-appreciated musician who's actually happy to see that musician become more popular. I always find it a bit absurd when people selfishly want no one else to hear the music they love. And if anyone deserves some mainstream popularity, it's Grimes. I just hope she doesn't tone-down her aesthetic to suit mainstream tastes. Her and her music are very idiosyncratic and surreal...but also insanely catchy as pure pop music. If she's able to continue balancing *_both_* those perspectives *_and_* get popular....more power to her. She's just a legit cool human being...and incredibly creative & unique. She's definitely someone who was born to make music. :)
avedic Well that tends to be the bad thing about mainstream. Producers always water things down for the masses. More artists should appreciate their niches and stop trying to be ultra super stars. Just because something is mainstream does not make it better, in fact generally the quality goes down. Some artist do make it work and some don't depending on how much control they have over the process. Hopefully grimes will have a lot of control of what is released.
Become the master at nothing other then being yourself. Where ever it takes you no matter the struggles it is where you were meant to be. Its literally that simple.
2012 interview - "Blood Diamonds is going to be very famous" "Grimes is the future of music" 2015 reality - Blood Diamonds producing for Madonna and Grimes interview with the Guardian where she's quoted as saying "If I sound current, it’s because I made the new current."
shit i diidn't even know, and he co-wrote justin beiber sorry too! (can't stand beiber, but credit where it's due) bd is super successful now and talented af. he doesn't seem to have music of his own though, he's more of a producer/songwriter atm i guess
+VanlsleBC nice! It's really about the experience of buying crack in a shitty alleyway and punishing yourself by injesting it. More than the drug effect itself
Nardwuar: "I'm Nardwuar". *No response. Grimes: "I'm Grimes" *Panics and lets her in It makes me sad that Nardwuar is such a talented interviewer and he's so slept on. I love Nardwuar and I strive to be as creative and thorough as him in whatever I do.
This is a byproduct of what happens when your parents are super strict. Which her parents were. But talents and being strong willed, smart and intellectual.
i love nardwuar interviews because i think the artists are sometimes kinda offput by how awkward he is and then when he pulls out something super meaningful to them they immediately drop all of that are super humbled and actually thankful lmao. they have like a real person to person and not just weird interviewer doing a shtick so he can talk to celebrities, he actually did his homework and respects who they are and what got them there
I come back to watch this far too often. Also, I can't stop giggling at how uncomfortable and perplexed she was at the end when he was standing still. Lmfao. Incredible. I want to be both of their best friends more than anything in my life.
What makes this interview genius is the fact that artists usually get impressed and sometimes even scared when Nard brings up some detail of their personal lifes, but Grimes is so used to oversharing things that she's just like "oh yeah, that happened lol"
