Nardwuar talks to Henry Rollins. August 15, 1998. Check out another interview Nardwuar did with Henry 13 years later here • Nardwuar vs. Henry Rol... !
That's how he acts towards most people, he's got a disgustingly huge ego, but minus the ego, he's a respectable guy. Just wish he would drop the fuckin attitude and like, loosen up a little. Man is a wealth of experience and stories, but who knows how many will ever be shared.
@@MacaqueStinx honestly If past Henry met current Henry, he’d probably beat the shit out of himself for going soft lmao but I guess that’s what happens with age
Numb, and tired of morons who think that their sad attempt to goad me into feeling something, due to their own lame need to justify their own self inflated need for validity, will offer their being some level of pathetic justification, or satisfaction- for whatever ails you: you're lame and irrelevant to my existence.
AmericanAkosm i’m gonna be real with you, homie. whatever you were trying to say with that last comment was not very well articulated, and the only thing i got from it was that you seem like a pompous prick who mimics the largest you know in an attempt to sound smart so you can trick yourself into thinking you’re above others. you’re no better than the rest of us, bud.
@@AmericanAkosm I agree with Michael, you really need to proofread your shit more. You didn't communicate anything at all, other than that you have a shit personality. Also just for clarity, the "virgin vs chad" thing is a reference to a meme in a community called "incels", and the "virgin" represents weak, ineffective, undesirable men, and the "chad" represents strong, impressive, desirable men. So that comment was playing with that meme by characterizing Henry Rollins as a virgin and Nardwuar as a chad. I think part of why that's so charming here is that this is the reverse of what you would expect, but there's also an element of truth to it because Nardwuar is, despite his initial appearance, a formidable person.
I love how when Henry realizes how much work Nardwuar puts into his interviews he actually lightens up and gives him a real interview! Still gives him attitude after but still respects the art!
@@lutze5086 Maybe you took it that way, but Henry was pretty much just saying it as if he was a bit taken aback, and it implies Nardwuar is a completely different person off-camera. A persona that I don't think anyone really sees outside of possibly those he interviews
@@tjcmoto5484 He realises he was flat out being a bellend to an interviewer who was asking genuinely in depth questions. He pretty much admits it afterwards.
There are some other clips on RU-vid where you can hear his actual speaking voice. He's also broken character a couple times. He seems pretty normal to be when he's not beefing up his persona.
Even though I'm not a fan of Henry's, I could watch these two talk forever. They're both smart guys but with different personalities. I like Henry's furrowed brow as he tries to determine if he's being disrespected, and Nardwuar's unflinching courage to keep pushing him. So many hilarious exchanges result.
Him interviewing Eric Andre was magical. The guy known for being an insane interviewer was given a taste of his own medicine and didn’t seem to know what to do!
Honestly I'm just surprised at how long Rollins kept trying to put conversational boundaries in place only for Nardwuar to leap over each one with all the energy of your dog smelling your neighbour's BBQ
That's what made it so great and people talking poorly about Rollins need to watch some of the interviews where the interviewer is nowhere near as intelligent as Nard. This was amazing that he got Henry to stay so chill for so long, especially considering some of the questions he asked 😂 Must've been the coffee lol
I love this interview so much it's like a little movie. Beginning, a bored and tired rollins who has no respect for nardwuar, to appreciating his effort yet still suspicious of his character, to showing signs of endearment and giving him his full attention.
I love that there's a moment when Henry is listening to the run of questions where he suddenly gets it. He starts to play along and basically relaxes a little. :)
actually he's grown on me ...he does have an irritating style but he's a genuine guy and he made his own thing happen ...but fuck that doo doo bullshit at the end of everything lol
I love how Rollins got sick of it and told him he had one more question, so Nardwuar worked around it by laying out every single question he was planning to ask and let Rollins pick one, even Rollins was like 'well shit, okay you win' hahahaha.
Henry probably was hoping that Narduwar would touch his soup can. "I fucked a stripper in DC" yeah sure you did Henry. A stripper that you picked up at Chippendales.
"I was also wondering, if you get bigger, if it's a possibility that you'll be able to get more tattoos actually on your body." That was the question that broke the camels back, and won Rollins over :)
Nardwuar's got some balls just chugging right along with the interview... especially when he spat out all those questions in a row when Henry said he only had one left. Haha!
No he doesn't. This is a guy who feels emasculated because he lacks confidence, which is why he is such a sordid piece of shit who feels like bullying 14 year old kids.
I get how some people don't like Henry's attitude. But he's a true punk rocker. And his aggression made this one of the most interesting Nardwuar interviews, what a pro interviewer.
I think Henry thought he was trying to make him look bad so he was being defensive but his opinion changed a little bit when he talked to Nardwuar more.
AlienBrain Lmao you’re an honest fucking loser kid. And the amount of irony in that comment, seems like someone’s projecting their insecurities on the internet 😳😳😳
I've never seen an interviewee go through so many different levels in an interview. Confusion hate denial acceptance appreciation shock awe,, and so much more. Ha nardwuar broke him. I've seen some interviews of badass gangster rappers vs nardwuar and within a minute they are in blind acceptance of his sheer awesomeness and they understand that he's asking them questions nobody else ever has or ever will.
Henry Rollins just sees peoples' true intentions and doesn't tolerate people's bullshit. It can pass off as being an asshole, but he's just his own kind of nice. I really respect that about Rollins. He's himself.
I once saw Sook Yin Lee (muchmusic in Canada) interview Massive Attack and they were incredibly rude, and she collapsed. I'd love to see Nardwar deal with those guys.
Your comment is a case study in how to make an ignorant comment about a guy with a great deal of intelligence and self-awareness. I guess you're some nerd who thinks all muscular guys are evil
@@boxychubbo6922 Henry's a great guy. He could have spent his life working minimum wage but he lifted himself out of that through initiative and sheer hard work, made some great records, then transformed himself into a sought after public speaker.
@@boxychubbo6922 Rude, condescending behaviour toward idiots is entirely appropriate and ought to be encouraged. Nard is no fool - just the opposite - but it's clear that Henry takes him for one, and with Nard's schtick, who can blame him? Besides, Nard's breath apparently created a bad impression. There's a later interview where Henry is (a bit) nicer to him. If you really want to see people being douches to Nard, check out his Blur, Lydia Lunch, and, to a lesser extent, Sonic Youth interviews
+Iggy Oak u mad? heads up you're about to get real butthurt: I don't listen to blackflag, or like henry rollins for his musical offerings - I know almost nothing about them, or the genre he's in for that matter.
+Iggy Oak I wasn't telling you my opinion. I don't have an opinion on his music. That's all I was saying.. I thought you'd be a be bit butturt (actually you do sound a bit butthurt) because nothing I have to say is about your preferences in music (of which I have no opinion). Hey man let's just forget this about be friends, we don't even disagree on anything!
This is ridiculously enjoyable. Both these guys have such strong personalities. Props to Nardwuar for playing this character with such beautiful commitment, he's a legend.
Love the way Nardwaur handled that, the multiple choice thing felt like “well Henry I like you and want to talk to you but if you don’t here’s the rest of my questions and if you don’t want to answer any of them then you can go” and I think Henry picked up on that and respected the shit out of it. That took some balls.
Nardwars interviews have improved - he learnt how bring the interviewee with him but at 7 min Henry gives up and just becomes taken in by the mighty Nard.
I love that he called out Henry on living in a "shed". The way Henry wrote about it always made it sound like he was living like a squatter, but it was Greg Ginn's dad's former study.
Justin Frank Served him coffee... I was restocking under the counter, popped up & was super surprised... "we were just talking about Black Flag" I said... "those were dark days", he replied. My coworker ( 20 y/o chick who dug pop punk ) had no idea who he was. He & his pal were wearing USO jackets. Syracuse, N.Y. I thought he seemed like a solid dude√
Caalamus haha oh pop punk fans, I mean that in the best way possible because i'm a Pop punk fan to an extent but come on girl! and that's rad man I can't imagine him not being solid. There's "surfy" Rock band called Fidlar and they have a video with a cut from one of Henry Rollins above the influence videos about meth and I couldn't stop laughing, fuckin Rollins man.
People do not often give the ol' Human Serviette his due respects as the punk legend he is. His interview style can only be compared to gorilla warfare. The man is honestly a genius when it comes to interviews. His extensive research, almost hyper active assault of questions , and gifts are mean to distract, confuse, and ultimately breakdown his guests. It's honestly phenomenal to watch. Nardwuar is truly a gift unto the world, I hope he countiues rockin' in the free world for several more decades to come.
