I've never been particularly taken by Nargaroth's music, but he covered Azhubham Haani and Root, so I think it's fair to say that he has some legitimate appreciation for good stuff.

I've never considered myself a big fan of Rock n roll death metal or anything is this genre of music. Idk how I came across Naragroth but I'm glad I did something about the deepness of these songs spoke to me and after seeing this interview I can honestly say I'm a fan. On the topic of legends back in the day that might not be legends today if they had internet like us: At the end of the day Dead from Mayhem was an extreme guy. His suicide is the ultimate testament to that. Just because he also had fun and goofed around doesn't take anything away from that. I think Ash just fell in the trap of mythologizing characters like Dead which results in some sort of caricature of these personalities. Even people with chronical depression are able to laugh every now and then. Even brutal murderers can be funny people. In that sense, Dead and Varg Vikernes would still be "Legends", even if all this stuff just happenend yesterday. It is the posers that just *act* like they are extreme people that would be exposed way earlier in the era of the internet.

Ash started his career really ridiculously, although his music was very good, even if it was very inspired. Maybe mental problems were also the reason why he staged himself like that, who knows. Then he probably grew up and matured, as you can see from this interview. Today he is a business man who markets Nargaroth really well, I no longer recognize the underground "possessed by black fucking metal" spirit, there is Nargaroth merchandising that has nothing to do with the black metal spirit and is more about fashion than passion. "His" last album was composed by someone else, who probably realized himself a little through it. Ash will not be able to keep up this standard (regardless of whether you like the last album or not)

I've seen Nargaroth live in 2014. Ash makes some of the best, purest black metal imo. He's up there with Satanic Warmaster, Sargeist and classic Norwegian black metal like Gorgoroth etc.
