We first went on the canals in 1974, on a boating holiday so we feel for you liveaboards..... It touched our hearts in a way nothing has, eversince. Since then we have had many boating adventures on the canals. We hope that Common sense prevails as you guys do a service in the life of the canals. You keep it real and the canals are alive! You can turn in Oxford. You just have to go through the lock, turn on the river, then back through the lock to the canal again. It's easy provided there's no flooding.

Hey Phil, just me again perusing videos...lol. Just wanted to ask you what metal rings are hanging on the wall just inside the back hatch (you can seem them when you are letting the cats out). Looks like a big belt or some kind of handcuff hanger...😄. I liked the voice/vocal you used in "Water Uprising". Reminded me of Gordon Lightfoot. Thanks for sharing. Take care.

Thanks Phil. Nice cruise. Seems like a long stretch without any locks. Love the protest song. I have listened to other vloggers detailing the increases in fees. They are pretty hefty increases...almost punitive. Are they trying to push people off the canals?

Excellent work Phil hope you're well. The CRT sold off all their assets to make their accounts look good asking gov for more funding gov saw through it and said no Precisely why boaters have to pay higher prices. The network is too big to manage and the CRT quango is only a self inflicted financially beneficial employer. The National Trust run the best canal on the network and it is precisely this model the CRT needs to adopt. Only one major insurmountable problem they sold off all their assets.

When we went through that junction at Braunston, two boats were moored poorly at the services. Getting past had me holding my breath and thinking please let us squeeze by! We did and ended up on a nice mooring on the visitor mooring just before the bridge…

Disclaimer: I'm American, but kinda obsessed with the canals since around 2017. I would VERY MUCH like to spend some years as a live-aboard CC. By my understanding, the problem with the CRT's budget is the gods-damned Tories, and their privatise and crxipple governzment (and gov't related) functions viewpoint. CRT's gov't funding's been slashed pretty intensely, I believe, and the costs to maintain the canals aren't getting any lower as time goes on. If this is correct - and seriously, I'd like to know if I'm wrong - what are they supposed to do to pay for it all? Now, I don't have any great hope that a labour/libdem victory in July (fingers crossed for you all!) will restore their funding any time soon, but I suspect it's the best hope they've got. Please! What am I missing here? I KNOW a great new burden is being placed on the boating - especially the CC - community. But what else can they do?

The ones at the top are paid enormous salaries. They waste huge amounts of money. Half a million pounds on a TV commercial that raised literally £0 income as it was aimed at non paying walkers. Come and unwind, relax. Meanwhile much needed maintenance is ignored until something breaks. I could go on... Even if funding is restored they won't drop the surcharge unless it is a condition of the funding.

Very moved by the lyrics to the music on this cruise. We were at Crick and were able to listen to Richard Parry (CRT) and Peter Johns (Waterways World Publisher) talk about the future of the canals. I was also able to ask Richard Parry why he felt the need to divide the boating community at a time when unity was needed.

@@baitcommajail He was adamant that it wasn't the CRT intention to create divisions and added that longer boats have always paid more! It was interesting that he chose to focus on boat size and avoided the cc/marina based question. I've a video of his talk on my channel if you struggle with insomnia 😉😉
