2 years late, but it's quite literally a reference to Goku from Dragon Ball. His Jinchuriki is called Roshi, one of Goku's most important masters (and most popular one) was Master Roshi. As far as I know, Master Roshi has no correlation with any other legend.
This is a very noticeable reference to dragon ball: The Four-Tails (Which kinda looks like an Oozaru) Is named Son-Goku The jinchuriki (Or however you spell it) Is named Roushi

Kind of. Pokemon trainers don't have a seal on their soul placing Charizard In Ash's mind and body. The jinchuriki are basically just tailed beasts in human form.
Son Goku (here) is based on Sun Wukong, but also nods to Son Goku from Dragon Ball. The 4-tails (Goku inherited the 4-star dragon ball from grandpa Gohan.) and the jinchuriki named Roushi, (similar in sound and pronunciation to Muten Roshi from dragon ball) there is a clear homage, you can reference things on multiple levels. Dragon Ball (the original) is clearly based on Journey to the West.

They all have the Tailed Beast Cloak form we saw Naruto in (when he's got a a dark red body and white eyes plus is completely feral), but their strongest form is partially or completely transforming into their Tailed Beast for a time like you see Bee doing. Naruto got the Kyuubi Chakra Cloak instead, which lets hom manifest a Kurama Avatar anyway.
Basically what the guy above said. The exception is Gaara's transaction which makes him a small version of Shukaku, filled with Sand corroding his body. Yugito has a form of feral blue fire form with two tails coming out and white eyes before becoming shroud in red cloak (check Yugito vs Hidan & Kakuzu). Fuu can also manifest two wings without going out of control, using it to fly around.
Son Goku primarily references Sun Wukong from Journey to the West, a classic Japanese novel, with his appearance and location Naruto found him mostly. Referencing the Dragon Ball character was secondary, with the 4 stars DB and its Jinchuuriki being named Roshi.

I think they are referncing more to the legend Sun Wukong, I believe dragonball does the same(Don't quote me on this) Since Goku's actual name is Kakarot to begin with lol, it's pretty awesome on both sides still though lol
