You can say "this is stolen" for litterally any shonen lol like you can say blackclover is stolen from naruto naruto is stolen from one piece you can say one piece is stolen from dragonball and you can say all Shonen are stolen from the legend of Momotaro
love your stuff but to call Shonen non creative is ridiculous telling a story is creative designing characters is creative even if you directly rip off some parts its still a creative pursuit so that was a poor choice of words
note that they originally didn't allow Naruto to join the war because 1. he's a Genin and 2. he's a Jinchuriki. (well, mostly because he's a Jinchuriki) Naruto basically had to brute force the Raikage so he could join the war. Sasuke on the other hand is a terrorist and the village rules don't apply to him.
The bell test in Naruto is also similar to the keep away game Netero played with Gon and Killua during the hunter exam. They were executed differently, but they are basically the same game.
Little different marvel and dc literally stole each other’s writers and demanded them to do in their company what the writer formally was doing for the competition
@@dree35 no its definitely different they were dc marvel its literally a rivalry thing tryna outdo each other where as this is more of a respectable homage to another authors work he enjoyed and inspired him
@@bean19101 Right but H×H finished years before Naruto. Naruto's story was completely planned out to begin with so they looked at other anime to add stuff.
@@micepapi4640”naruto story was completely planned out” Erm No 😒 Tte author of naruto had a rough cliche plot for naruto but his editors literally dictates what the author could adapt. Originally the author wanted naruto to go to different nations and stuff but editors said no do the chunin exams Etc Original script of naruto is way different that what we got
Hunter X Hunter definitely took from DBZ with (IMO) Meruem being a more polished version of Cell on the humanity level. Do I care? Not in the slightest! They're their own stories that just happen to have similar story telling methods and both are awesome! This shouldn't be a hatred point for any anime. If anything, showing inspiration from prior works is like an homage to creators of the past.
@@KaiserReb I don't mean Meruem and Cell look the same, I mean in the sense of Meruem's humanity towards people, especially his relationship to Komugi. They do look similar though
Let's also add in Itachi and Illumi. Both are older brothers, incredibly powerful, who constantly beat up their younger brother in order to make them strong enough to protect themselves. Itachi constantly beat Sasuke to make him stronger to protect the leaf and himself. Illumi put a pin in Killua's brain to make sure he never fought someone stronger than him to keep him safe. When Itachi dies, Sasuke gets his eyes and becomes much more powerful. Illumi scares Killua using a pin as a sort of mind control the same way Itachi terrifies Sasuke with genjutsu showing Itachi killing the clan.. When Killua pulls Illumi's pin, he is no longer held back and can now fight stronger people to further improve himself. Both end up being extremely stronger than they would have been and they have their brothers to thank for that.
I think Naruto is the pefect example of being inspired by something else but still is uniqe. I always loved HxH and watched last year Naruto for the first time. I immediately recognised the similarities and I loved it. Booth Anime/Manga are great and in art it´s normal to be inspired by something else. Just make youre own thing and don´t just steel without credit. And Kishimoto never denied being isnpired by HxH, he said himself he is a big Fan of it.
yep, both have similarities but still they have their own soul, just like Dragon ball being inspired by Journey to the West and Superman (being literally an alien that was raised by a farmer) but at the same time Dragon ball inspired every single nekketsu that follows it
That plus having red eyes and having your family massacred isn't unique to it's inspiration. Those concepts were there way before both series and part of Japanese mythology/folk lore. Also, didn't the creator of HxH help in the making of Sauske?
i agree, this is the problem i have with black clover, it does nothing unique and is actually rather mediocre. It doesn't even have its own unique magic system, it just uses regular magic with grimoires.
7:01 "In the Chunin Exams, only one person passes" i mean, while there is only 1 winner, I think that multiple people could become Chunin in the exam, just it was merit based. Like, it was an exam to show off skills and you could become a Chunin even if you lost in the first round but showed enough skill, just winning and advancing gave you more rounds to show what you're made of
yeah thats exactly how sarutobi described it eps before he died lol, like shilamuru lost by forfeiting but was the only one who passed because he had the skill
didnt all 3 sand shinobi gara etc get promoted aswell durring said chunin exame? sure only one leaf. but im almost certain the 3 sand shinobi was promoted aswell. in that case. more than one. and one per village wouldnt be the case either. but im not certain if they where or not
ahh my bad. as far as i could find they where promoted the following year by the looks of it. but if it was durring a chunin exame they where still all 3 promoted durring the same one :)
Gotta agree... I don't think it would make much sense if there was only one winner period... While the villages do come together for this event I highly doubt they come together for the promotion process... While a funny idea, I am hard pressed to believe "The Village Hidden in Obscurity" is suffering a Chunin shortage because their Genin are always losing out to a big 5 village with their better ninja education and all that...
Kite and Kakashi are similar too, both are the teacher of the MCs and both were trained by the MCs dads (kite trained by ging/kakashi trained by minato)
Surprised you didn't mention the similarities between Kurapika's Emperor Time and Sasuke's Sharingan/Mangekyo Sharingan. Red eye upgrade that lets the character better interpret, understand, or otherwise utilize techniques and abilities that they don't normally have access to. This even includes a downside that imparts physiological degradation with prolonged usage.
Ummm emperor time doesn't activate while Activating the eyes. It just happens to be that when emperor time activates the eyes automatically activate so he needs to wear contact lenses
I literally thought this the first when i saw this how similar a clan with red eyes that has special abilities get murdered and the last member makes it a life misson to avenge his clan
This is crazy, lol I just started watching hunter hunter with my gf and I’ve been consistently saying how much this whole show resembles naruto, And she loves hunter hunter, now to get her on naruto😏
Looking beyond HxH to the creators other manga: Yu Yu Hakusho... I always loved to point out the parallels between Tsunade/Genkai, Nagato/Sensui, and Sasuke/Hiei just to name a few...
Hunter hunter helped multiple Shonen especially the hard magic department. Why change it when all u require is to follow template. Bakuman uses weird way of using Shonen generic tropes in fresh spin.
@@NCHammer23 yo hammer I have a theory. That theory is that Sakura is a senju. Sakura has multiple connections and I think that she is a far descendent of the senju. She has pink hair the combination of white and red senju and uzumaki. Maybe the reason she has the healing ability and Jutsu as the senju is because she is one. She could be a descendent just like sokumo hatake the senju replaced their name for the wife’s name. The haruno are senju. Also the reason for her one hundred healings seal is because she is one because only senju and uzumaki have had it. Also only senju have been able to summon katsuyu. The team seven mirroring thing does not have to do with that either because rin can’t summon her. Then the other two summons are related to the natural genius and the underdog. Minato is actually the underdog because he was able to take on supposedly stronger ninja. Sunade chose Sakura because she was a descendent of the senju. Katsuyu is like the monkey kings which only the sarutobi can summon. Also she was able to activate and use her seal multiple times for longer the sunade.
Nick just randomly popped up on my recommended one day when he had 9k subs and started making better videos than swagkage( in my opinion) and honestly it’s probably the best thing that the RU-vid algorithm ever did to me
Naruto definitely barrows some elements from Hunter x Hunter, but I wouldn't call it a rip-off. I feel like some people tend to exaggerate the similarities.
Finally someone promoting the idea that you can enjoy more than one anime at a time. I absolutely hate seeing people who always have to bash any anime that isn't the current best, like why can't we just enjoy every anime for what it is, or dislike any for whatever personal reason we have
You can add to the list the reaction the MC's had when meeting the focus of their revenge... They were both forced into a situation where they had to bottle their revenge for the "Greater Good"
I'd point out that a lot of these concepts come from folklore and mythology. For instance breeding weird looking eyes with special powers is actually a ninja legend that they have in Japan.
Yup. Oroichimaru faked being AKATSUKI for Itachi & like Hisoka did with the Phantom Troupe for Chrollo. The same person Sasuke/Karapika went after. Boom!
my favorite comparison between the two series is Wing and Iruka, who both introduced the MCs to their respective power systems, acted as fond authority/family figures, and are played by the same voice actor.
Yoshihiro Togashi and masashi kishimoto are friends in real life. They shared ideas to each other. Its just that when kishimoto wrote naruto, he wrote it with more style. For example the red eyes of uchiha sharingan comes with abilities and secrets whereas toshiro's kurapika clan red eyes is just beauty and thats it. Edit: credit to ham sarris for reminding me. Scarlet red eyes enables the user to use all nen types not just beauty. 1 second of its usage comes with a cost shortening his lifespan by 1 hour.
And he actually got alot from yuyu hakusho if you know you know but same creator as hunter hunter but yuyu is definitely where naruto gets majority of its stuff from
Actually the eyes also allow the use of all nen abilities or attributes, so it does enhance the user's overall abilities and make the user OP if fully mastered. Either way, it shouldn't matter, it's become a trope in manga, let it be used in other series.
Nah Kurapika’s eyes when turned scarlet enhances his overall strength, that’s why in his fight with Uvogin, he was able to master all the nen techniques in 100% and become a specialist when his scarlet eyes appear due to extreme rage and whatnot emotion
And sometimes you are simply creating something or at least thinking so, but in reality, you are replicating in your own way something that you previously saw, heard, or knew and lies deep in your subconscious.
I get what you mean personally I don’t think it’s fair to say only SHONEN anime is like this, every form of story telling is inherently similar with just different takes on the same story.
Bisky is a transmuter. Because enhancer is right next to transmutaion on the nen chart one who was born in one of those will likely be proficient in the other. I'd also like to add that Bisky has a healing ability that rejuvenates the person it is used on.
Kishimoto wasn’t actually gonna do an exam/tournament arc, he was just gonna focus on fleshing out a side cast, but his editorial staff said that it be best he do an exam arc (which in my opinion was better than the hunter exams). Also, in the Chunin exams, it’s not just one person who passes, it’s based on how suited they are to be ninjas/leaders, hence why Shikamaru became a chunin, eventhough he forfeited the match and lost, he still became a chunin. Regarding Kurapika and Sasuke, Kishimoto had already produced a one shot called Karakuri in 1995, where there were red eyes that had power in it, so Kishimoto already had this idea in mind. The revenge story of Sasuke (and maybe Kurapika) is based on a person in Japanese folklore called Sasuke Sarutobi, who appears in a tales that Kishimoto took a lot of inspiration from, the tale of Jiraiya the Gallant. Sasuke Sarutobi is even mentioned by sasukes mom as being the reason for his name in the kushina flashback. The rest are pretty similar when you boil things down hard enough. Btw, I’ve seen some of your videos…stop calling shit which aren’t plotholes, plotholes, and stop calling anything in Naruto plot armour, when we see how chakra is used, through Itachi passing on his chakra to sasuke, and hence he could use Amaterasu on Obito.
@@TandJgaming eh, IMO they're pretty equal. Naruto starts with dumb shit cheating exam but after that it's legit, on the other hand HXH started.....well actually didn't they have 3 stages in hunter? Ummm sorry...the woods getting the circle table, then um the food thing I think? And also didn't they have to help those people who they thought were being attacked by monsters, but it was a test and they were shape shifters? If they had all 3? Then yes HXH was def. Better
Both Orochimaru and Hisoka enter their respective exam/tournament arcs while hiding their true powers, while also harboring ulterior motives (finding an appropriate vessel / searching for a worthy opponent)
I say this as a creative myself, thank you in the name of all that is holy for making this video, me and my good friend have been literally just making a checklist of all of the things that were taken from Hunter, and it's sister work, it gets Kinda crazy when you really start going down that rabbit hole, I'm excited to see how far you go with it, and was the low-key hate on greed island really necessary. Lol
@@FuckRU-vidAndGoogle strong words, strong words, but at least there was character development in greed, and I mean, we can't expect too much character development with Naruto though, when basically all you do is have two main characters of two other shows pretty much do a fusion dance, and you have Sasuke. Dragon of the darkness flame, proficiency with a sword, the exact same verbal tick, Scarlet eyes, literally the exact same backstory, I mean I'm sure we could continue.
A lot of mangaka respect and like Tagashi, and since HxH did many things first Naruto did take a few cues. I think HxH did a lot better, but that's unfair since Tagashi has been doing his for a longtime Kurapika is what Sasuke should have been
sorry to disappoint you but there already American anime like invincible- bondock young justice vox machina- dc animated films -generator rex and martin mysterie and maybe ben 10 beside he last series
But Shisui would have been no different than Madara. Not to mention using kotoamatsukami is not a permanent fix. And the guarantee that it would work on Fugaku was never verified beforehand, so he was just going to waste his dojutsu one the one person who is possibly immune to it.
@Arshiya Khodaie I'm not saying their method was any better. And if Shisui was smart about this, he would have used it and told the council after the fact.
It doesn’t matter how strong their dojustu is. First of all,Kotoamatsukami doesn’t need eye contact to work. Not only that but Itachi’s original plan was to use the crow that he implanted into naruto on sasuke, witch means he thought/knew that it would be able to control sasuke even if he had a ems
My guess is your implication is EMS makes you immune, but this isn’t the case. However you have a point that there was no way of knowing if changing one persons mind would be enough, and it’s implied that it may not have been. However there was an easier solution, and nobody ever talks about it. Without itachi they weren’t sure if their coup would work, so if itachi, and shisui both declared they would actively work against the coup it would have been stopped in its tracks, because without their 2 best fighters it would be an uphill battle, but if these 2 were added to the other side it would be impossible. In fact without shisui they couldn’t even attempt to kidnap the hokage. It would have made itachi, and shisui outcasts to their clan, but this would have been a much easier solution, and given the hokage the time and leverage he needed to force them to negotiate their differences.
Looks at Killua and Gon Looks at Kakashi and Gai White haired, sullen, electric users with tragic backstory and determined, green beasts brute force types being friends anyone? This was actually the first similarity i noticed because i watched hunter x hunter as a kid but not naruto and only got into naruto recently. My vague memories of the main characters of HxH (specifically Killua) instantly mapped out to Kakashi. Used to be rule abiding, almost emotionless shinobi/assassin who had a, in gai's words, "hip and cool" attitude and trickster attitude to cover that up. This wasn't a big of a deal, because it's a pretty obvious connection. Then I rewatched HunterxHunter and I looked at Kakashi's ninken, and Killua's giant ass dog Mike, and I was like, "hm, okay another connection! Cool!" Then I noticed, gon's usage of green, and i was like "huh, yeah he used a lot of green! he's pretty much a beast in green-oh wait a fucking *minute*-" and noticed, kakashi's friend, gai, uses a lot of green and is primarily a taijutsu specialist who doesn't use ninjutsu, while gon is an enhancer who primarily uses his jajanken for attacks without much more complexity compared to his fellow nen-users. and yeah, uh the last gate?? yeah uh, adult gon anyone??? A massive powerup that allows you to use all the power you could ever have with devastating consequences on the body in return??? Also, Gai literally got Ninja Jesus-ed to life (though crippled), and Gon got revived by Nanika but couldn't use his Nen anymore. there's probably more but this is the ones i remembered lol Honestly now I want a fanfiction where one pair got reincarnated into another and i don't care which one I like that idea please do inform me if it's made or if it already existed because it would be hilarious either way.
I've never seen hunter x hunter before, so I suppose I'll pass on this one. I agree with your point about the Shonen formula worming well. It does seem like many people i know (and me) all watch 1-3 Shonen from childhood and just follow those lol. New ones seem like rip-offs probably just because the formula works. Just like Nick said. Think of the MCU. It's a money-maker!
I can say this as someone who passed on Hunter X Hunter for years, you're missing out. It gets so, so good. The biggest regret I have about that show is that it ends at all. Unfortunate.
@@cagnazzo82 Well, I'm in a but of an unusual boat there lol. I'm visually impaired (almost no useful vision) and I'm only able to finish shippiden and keep up with boruto because I have friends who watch them and will describe what's happening for me. To be honest, I tried to watch AoT because it sounded so unusual, but I just couldn't follow along without seeing it. It's a cartoon though, so it is just an unfortunate thing. Anjme doesn't have Audio Description under the Audio Preferences on any of the streaming services I use. If you have any ideas, I'd be happy to give hunter x hunter a shot!
@@yoder6162 Nah, I'm just passing on Nick's HxH content because I haven't seen the show. I'm visually impaired too, so I would need someone to watch it with me and describe what was happening to really enjoy it. No beef with HxH though :)
there are 3 things you can do in shonen, 1.) end of the world 2.) go to school 3.) have a goal to be something at the top of some hierarchy branch like a president, manager, god or warrior and mage
Naruto was at it's best when Kishimoto was being "inspired" by Hunter x Hunter in part 1. If Hunter x Hunter continued without hiatus, Naruto would have likely continued to be amazing into Shippuden.
That won't work some arc were rushed because they weekly manga like hidan arc and kishimoto was in the hospital and he has to continue working and he wanted to have more arc visiting each other village but the editor forced him to do the chunin exam its not writing issues its the weekly manga and shonan not giving kishimoto freedom and shonan was rushing kishimoto during the war arc to end at chapter 700 Shippuden was great until the pain arc the war arc has it issues but has many great moments and way better than anything comes form boruto
I think the naruto creator said naruto was inspired by my favourite anime of all time yu yu hakusho and that sasuke was directly inspired by hiei with the black flames, personality and visual powers. NCHAMMER doesn't know shxt about narutos inspirations.
The Naruto art work for first 10 or so volumes is borderline a Hunter X Hunter rip off Kishimoto definitely developed some sort of inspiration from HxH or maybe Yu Yu Hakusho’s artwork but eventually grew into his own
How the fuck do you rip off art?? They are irl friends so they could share similar methods when drawing I don’t understand these criticisms just because they look similar≠same it’s just his art style
more parallels between phantom troupe and akatsuki: the phantom troupe started off peaceful, then their friend, sarrasa, was murdered brutally and the whole thing was filmed. The phantom troupe turned meteor city into a hell where you could show off these horrible films. They did this to attract the killers of sarrasa. It’s theorised that they already killed sarrasa’s killers because their goals have changed greatly. So both: started of as innocent children one was killed turning them evil turned their city into a hell-scape one mc is trying to kill them kind of (sasuke targeting itachi and kurapika is targeting th whole group)
Okay so I'm just forming this theory in my head man but feel free to talk about it I don't think Tsunade is using a transformation Jutsu anytime you see a transformation Jutsu in Naruto there's always a giant puff cloud now I'm willing to agree that she's using the seal on her head but she's using it to replace her DNA telling me is to regenerate fast enough to keep her youthful appearance because in humans that's why we get older that's why we get wrinkles we lose the telomeres at the ends of our DNA strands which gives us our gray hair our wrinkles and our fragile bones what if she's just using mitotic regeneration to rapidly repair her telomeres that's just a thought cuz anytime you see Tsunade revert to her actual age her skin turns slightly Gray and she wrinkles up like she's rapidly aging
Tsunade is using regular transformation, but using little bit of the chakra stored in the seal to passively maintain it. That's why when she uses almost all her chakra including the stored one, she goes back to how she really looks (which is older than her age due to the cell regeneration side-effect of aging her faster).
Kishimoto said sasuke is inspired sasuke sasuke sarutobi and hiei who is another one of togashi’s characters. Sasuke sarutobi about a clan with red eyes and kurapika is inspired by Nausicaä also a story about a clan with red eyes. You’re right about everything else lol. Edit: is no one going to point out illumi and itachi
Every anime had similar themes. For example: Older brother protecting younger brother by being the bad guy: - Visions of Escaflowne - Folken Fanel and Van Fanel - Naruto - Itachi and Sasuke - Demon Slayer - Wind Pillar Sanemi and Genya
People who make a big deal about similarities in art have no experience in art whatsoever because anyone in ANY artistic field will tell you that art learns from art, you get better at drawing by looking at other artists and you get better as a singer by listening to other people's music, stories are no different.
Dude what camera set up are you using now. I came here from some older videos and I gotta say- that sudden increase in visual quay was jarring… but in a good way
Just want to say I watch a lot of your videos so I wanted to compliment you for the way you talk. You describe things well, use inflection at the right times and change pace really well. Overall you’re really good at your job and I appreciate that you are such a professional while giving us really good naruto content.
I’m already knowing this comment is probably here but I just want to say hxh unironically came out first so I’d anyone were to claim which one was stolen naruto quote on quote “stole” from hxh of anything but it wasn’t sasuke was inspo of hiei and the sharingan comes from Japanese folklore (to my knowledge)
I actually just started re-watching OG Naruto and I just wanna let you know that (she) Lady Tsunade is 50 years old same age as Jayraya. Murdered the spelling.
There are women in their fifties and sixties looking really good for their age, they've got some blessed genetics. LMAO, why is being in your fifties seen as old? People can live to their eighties these days.
@@TrynawalkwithGod I guess society makes us believe that beauty is youth when in fact, it's not. Beauty can be found everywhere and anywhere! Flowers, dolls, cakes, crystals, vases, humans, stars, planets, and galaxies are beautiful to name some.
the way chuunin exam works they could have 0 people graduate or every single person, its a vote based on their intelligence and ability, thats why shikamaru was advanced despite losing
NCHammer I know this is off topic but is it possible that Itachi's illness is derived from the intense emotions Uchiha's harbor. The act of killing his clan and leaving Sasuke alone to raise on his own maybe weighed so heavily on him emotionally. The emotional stress coalesced until it took form into a chakra sickness that was literally eating away at him from the inside
Honestly your just comparing typical anime tropes. Dead parents/family has been around wayyyyyy longer than either anime/manga. I mean look at Batman... Getting a cool teacher and a special power or technique ALSO a typical trope... Look at D&D the edgy dark character usually has dead parents and had a hard life alone or on the streets... Look at dragon ball and dbz cell games look at Harry Potter and the goblet of fire... It's literally just tropes... Not just Naruto or hunter x hunter... I mean these tropes are all over the place. Full metal alchemist with the state alchemist exams. Sao and code lyoko or .//hack, totally spies and Charlie's angels, your just pointing out tropes. Story building tools. Strife, hardship, overcoming adversity, creepy scary bad guys. Tv shows, movies, games, books, stories... They all have common tropes cause of the basic formula. Look at mythology for instance Hercules and his trials. Fighting competitions. Damsels in distress, Mary sues, macguffins. I mean you could say you stole the idea to get views like this from other channels with a random white guy wearing glasses talking about something controversial with a bait thumbnail whilst sitting in a gaming chair... I'm not mad just don't see where this is profound or something that people really don't allready realize... I mean how many games and anime have a "muramasa" or "masamune" or some sword said to thirst for blood or steal the souls of it's enemies? Demon samurai/assassin's/swordsmen? Logan and iga clan ninjas. Want to point out that basilisk and the movie Shinobi are both ripoffs of eachother and that they are both a rip off of Romeo and Juliet? Again... omniman, superman, Goku are all basically the same aliens from a different planet of warriors... Just story building tools and tropes that people are interested in hearing about and seeing.
Rewatching this there’s a LOT more. The first hokage chill goofy guy. The second serious but respect the first. Same as Xeno and The old man. Kite was a student of ging the pervy sage taught the fourth meaning both teachers knew their father when they didn’t. Itachi is Illami the hypnotic trance they played on their brothers both checked the prev.? So on so forth. Both are amazing.
as a species we rarely create something that is wholey new. we combine and reiterate on ideas, concepts and themes we see and respect or enjoy ourselves. its our ego that convinces us that we are being "original" when if we were honest with ourselves we'd accept this pretty foundational aspect of human creativity.
Otogakura is the most underrated hidden village in my opinion. Imagine how powerful shinobi who've perfected using sound waves in combat could actually become if given a few generations to grow. High frequency sound waves can penetrate anything in theory, and be uses to create barriers. Orochimaru was only using the sound ninja as tools but if he'd have augmented even the fodder sound ninja and perfected the augments they used as well as improved the ways in which they fought and their shinobi level in general the sound village could have become very dangerous very quickly.
I'm just gonna point out that Killua specifically said that the Phantom Troupe was created to enact revenge on someone. That was what, 15 years before the reveal?
