Just to clarify, Diamond in the Back is not a song that Mayfield ever made. The song that people mislabel is actually Be Thankful for What you Got by William Devaughn.
Curtis Mayfield is so underrated I’ve been a fan of his since I was a kid diggin through my father classics! Curtis a true freedom fighter against the system! Thanks for it and Nasir Jones ✌🏾✌🏾✌🏾✌🏾
The last track, Reservoir Dogs has such an aggressively cool old school 70s sound to it w the scratching- imagine cruising slow through a parking lot in a restored 1970s Lincoln Continental, that car has the perfect old school super low to the ground and wide 70s car body, no one can ignore the OG coolness
Sincerely from the heart, thank you for this 💆🏿♂️🎖 Also, good looking out on dropping Across the tracks in the line up; an authenticated sampled Mayfield/Nas collaboration👊🏾👑
incredible work....curtis mayfield's voice and the 70s soul & funk sound is just perfect for sampling/using in hip hop......I recently saw Superfly then got the album......loved it....and then decided to listen to all his music starting w his 1970 album.......your version here of "Gimmie Your Love" is PERFECT with NaS on it.......holy damn......good work
